Holy crap this place is crowded! For being a local pier, it pulls double duty. Youve got your local fisherman posted up angling for whatever bites as well as all of the locals grabbing a spot on the sand to sun and swim all day mixed with a giant surge of tourists who are there to see the sights and ride the rides. Parking isnt too bad from a tourism point of view but at $10.00, I dont think I would pay it if I were a local. You can get your kids a wristband for Pacific park and they can ride all of the rides unlimited for as long as you are there so that is a good value. The pier itself has a funland arcade as well as a Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory and a mexican restaurant called Mariasol. Other than those two sit down places, there are two different burger joints and a place that sells funnel cakes. There is always more than enough entertainment while you are on the pier because every aspiring local artist likes to set up shop and sell their wares to anyone willing to stop and look or listen. We saw a violinist as well as a man painting caricatures. An 11 year old girl who was either a pianist or a comedian or both but I couldnt tell. We saw street performers dancing and singing and preaching the word. There is no lack of things to keep you occupied while youre on the pier. We ended up eating at Mariasol while we were there and just enjoyed the sunshine and cool breeze before heading back to our hotel. I would suggest Santa Monica Pier as a nice tourist destination but I would also advise you to research it for busy times. Otherwise the traffic and parking and crowds can get a bit overwhelming. Have fun and thank you for reading.

From time to time me and The Crew really leave the trail and take in the sites of LA. One such event was this one, a tour of the Santa Monica Pier where we began our day with Jim Harris, a person who knows a great deal about the pier. He led us on a walking tour from end to end, sharing many fun stories and historical facts. The first stop on our tour was the Santa Monica Carousel. So much fun history, except for the accidental fire that broke out decades ago. Did you know the second story were apartments to some prominent movie celebs and they use to sneak friends into the building? Think of the movie "The Sting", yeah, you probably know it was shot here. If you dont come to the Santa Monica Carousel for the history, then get in contact with your inner kid and get a ride Btw... In the early 1960s, a young woman in an overcoat and wearing dark glasses would sit for hours and watch the horses spin around. Jockey Stevens, the carousel operator, reportedly approached the woman and advised she was youthful enough to get a respectable job. The woman swept away her black wig and colored glasses and revealed the face of Marilyn Monroe, effectively ending that discussion.

I cant post a review on the pier it self, but... As far as the valet parking goes at the lobster what a joke my sister and I left her car for a hour and 20 minutes and we went and are at the Albright the service a :) d clam chowder was great.however we didnt want to carry our .bags so we. Went back to put. Them in the car only to find out someone is out joy riding her car.are you kidding me over a hour someone is out driving her car and we go to put our stuff in. And the car Is not there for us to put our stuff in. Then we look down the road only to see her car. Coming down the. Road not from the parking garage. But from down the road. Wtf talk to assistant . Manager who did nothing after arguing with these people for about 20 minutes and. Several different excuses week left and called the 800 numbers only to be told they did nothing wrong. There was construction going on and that was the reason it took so. Long for the car to be parked....But then in. The same phone call they are going to reprimand the employee, why would you reprimand an employee for doing nothing wrong??? What a joke dont. Ever. Valet your car there period.

This is a MUST SEE MUST EXPERIENCE place! I was visiting family in Long Beach ,Ca. & had always wanted to see the pier. The weekend we went there was a LA Marathon & it was very crowded but it was well worth the adventure! There lots of parking available. We chose one of the parking garages and walked a short distance. The pier and downtown need at least to be a full day event. Down at the pier they offer bicycle rentals which seemed economical and the best way to get around. There were live bands playing for entertainment, an arcade, and amusement park rides on the pier. Several restraunts to choose from including Bubba Gumps Seafood and at the piers end Marcalos a Mexican Seafood Restraunt where we ate out on the patio. We had a couple coctails, ate fantastic seafood, and played pokemon go as we walked around enjoying the different entertainment opportunities available to us. We did some shopping and spent the full day there. Its well kept up and the police presence is notible. We really enjoyed our time there.

Make sure you have your front license plate or youll get a ticket!!! I paid to park in the parking lot by the pier and when I got back I found a ticket on my windshield for no front license plate. The best part is when I confronted a policeman about the ticket and asked why about 10 other cars that didnt have a front license plate werent ticketed he just continued to eat his taco and said o-well. There are a lot of other beaches to hang out in California so do yourself a favor and dont go to the city of Santa Monica. Ill no longer spend my hard earned money in the city of Santa Monica. They better be fixing the homeless problem with the money that comes from these tickets. In the end it cost me $37 to park in the stupid parking lot for 2-3 hours when parking is a $12 flat fee. Thank you to the city of Santa Monica for tuning what was a great day into a bad day and an experience that Ill always have and never return to Santa Monica to spend my money or support the locals.

Parking was easy, we visited on Sunday Mothers Day, so for a holiday it was very packed and very busy. Clean beach, we ate at bubba gumps, very friendly staff there. We rode the ferris wheel and Stacy was great! Our table was called 15 ahead of schedule and had to get out of line and was able to return later. The young gal working at the wiffle ball throw was rude and just seemed unhappy to work there or work at all. I didnt get my change back from a $20 I bought 9 balls, she briefly explained no combining to upsize... understandably so but we had 4 balls land on the large coded color and said only 2 were going to be given I didnt want to lug around 2 large stuffed animals and asked if could downsize to just 2 smalls and rudely said no I explained that already! Ummm no you didnt, explained about the upsize! Anyway we took our 2 larges and gave them to kids who didnt win anything. She would of been a very pleasant girl if her attitude was grateful.
