I have been going to Fat Cats Cafe since 1991. Went this Sunday, January 12, 2014 and it was disgusting . I ordered their special Machacha and their was hardly any beef, no chilie peppers just full of Bell Peppers - sure not what it use to be. Their salsa was Pace Picante Sauce. You use to get one of the best Machacas around that area and their salsa was homemade. My husband ordered corn beef hash, this definately was not hash, Giant chunks of dried out corn beef and huge chunks of potatoes floating in a pool of grease. I will never go again and I will not recommend this to anyone.

Fat Cats is an Institution. It is located right near Port San Luis Pier and has classic American Diner type food. They have an outside patio that they open during the daytime and this is a great place for breakfast. The inside is not too big and you can sit in there in the morning and eat with all the fishermen folks. We love riding our bikes out to Avila and stopping there for breakfast and riding back. The french fries are insane and come in a large basket. If you have a hankering for crazy good french fries a trip to Fat Cats is worth it just for that.

I loved the location, but the omelet that I ordered for breakfast tasted like a stick of butter. I am pretty sure that if I could have squeezed all the oil that omelet had I could have done an oil change in my car. The service was friendly, but honestly I feel it is sad when a nice place, in a good location drops the ball like that with the most important thing.....the food.

Im not a huge fan of their menu, however, I have to give a solid plug to their clam chowder because Splash gets so much credit for theirs a few minutes down the road in Pismo. Fat Cats is just as good and it was always the better alternative to waiting in line for a half hour in Pismo for chowder whenever I lived out on the Central Coast.

I was staying in Avila Beach, if you want a great workout, walk down here for breakfast (2 miles one way) and back. Its beautiful and plenty of people out running/biking on the same path. The veggie omelet was stuffed full of great things and the service was really nice. The patio is great and perfectly protected from the wind.

Fat Cats Cafe is a true locals restaurant were you can go when you want an awesome meal with a great view of the Port San Luis Harbor. My personal favorite is the breakfast specials. You never know what you are going to enjoy. I recommend them to anyone. Even people that are just passing through the Central Coast

We had breakfast there and it was pretty good. Nothing great and the bacon was hardly cooked. Nice little patio for dining though. Except for... the smokers who think standing 10 feet away somehow will magically clear their disgusting cigarette smell from the patio area. Wrong.

Had breakfast here The Custom House would be a better choice, lunch better keep going to the Old Port Inn at the end of the pier, their Fish tacos are better, you are treated like a local, when you are not one. Fat cats has been better, great location, attention to detail.

My rating is purely because despite their outdoor patio and the fact that I was told they allowed dogs, we were turned away because of our two small dogs (who were contained in a stroller). The customer service that we experienced was also pretty below expectations.

Good food, not great. Prices are a tad high but thats expected from oceanside dining. Good Benedicts. Service is usually pretty bad. Expect to stand at the front podium for at least 5 minutes before anyone comes to even acknowledge you

A central coast treasure. Great food, wonderful people, spectacular view and amazing experience. Everything on the menu is cooked to order. There are even a couple of off mune items that they will make upon request.

Great service, great food! Its a bit cozy inside but they have a lot more outdoor seating and they are practically right next to the water so you can soak in that fresh ocean breeze and Cali sun.

Ate here twice...dinner and breakfast. Both meals delicious and good service. Wow does this place get busy!! I believe it was the owner who came by and briefly checked on each customer.

Cool Place... ...right on the coast. We had salmon and lobster tacos. Both were good. The staff here is excellent, especially Carrie, she was helpful, cheery, and professional.

The best breakfast in town. Affordable prices. The friendliest waitresss and cooks. They also give commercial fisherman 10% off the entire meal. Awesome!!!!!

Service was slow and the food was a little bit greasy.... It also took forever to get seated when there were so many open spots with no one in line.

Great food. Super fresh. Love going there. The only reason for not getting 5 stars is the service is a little lax. Not bad but not what I expected

Anytime you can incorporate seafood with breakfast is a plus in my book, carb benedict with a rich hollandaise and sourdough.
