Before the 2013 remodel, I used to attend films here frequently, with a group of regular movie-goers. Since the upgrade, I go much less often because: * Groups cant get seats together unless one person purchases a block of tickets way ahead of time (thats completely impractical for groups of unrelated people who wont commit ahead). * You really cant go to this theatre on a last-minute whim anymore. (I watch an average 50 films in cinemas each year, and about 90% of the time I make my choices of venue and title less than 2 hours ahead.) * Because each auditorium is a different shape, even if youre buying early enough to choose any seat you want, figuring out which are the best seats requires a level of familiarity that I havent been able to achieve. I *always* wind up too close or too far from the screen. * Having been long familiar with corrupt practices in the concert-ticketing system, and being concerned about the haves/have-nots of our society, it just plain seems more fair to make seats available first-come/first-serve: get there early, and get a good seat; get there late, youre stuck down in front. Your wallets size and personal connections give you no particular advantage. Yes, I like the spacious seats; yes its nice to have an on-site bar; and yes, the main competitor (Kabuki Sundance) has opted for the same annoying seat-assignment scheme. But I dont have to like the assigned-seating system, so for as long as I can vote with my wallet against it, I am going to Century, AMC, and non-assigned Landmark cinemas much more often these days.

This theatre is conveniently located on the top level of Embarcadero one. You can stop and buy some Godiva chocolates from the ground floor shop on the way up to the theatre or go up and walk past the theatre to a restaurant for a pre-movie lunch. The lobby has lots of comfy bench style seating but the place is in need of some sprucing up and thats why Im excited. They are currently under renovation. I cant wait to see what they come up with. They hold the Italian Film Festival here. Everyone comes with long hair, stillettos, and black leather....very European...and they always have a movie magazine with reviews and dates for coming attractions as well as postcards for most of the movies. Its comfortable and quiet and offers a lot of indie variety. The theatre also used to have a rewards card where the tenth movie was free but when business slowed, they asked us all to cash our cards in for the free movie and they ended the practice. Hopefully, that will be part of their renovated theatre again. Then, I can re-score this theatre.

We purchased front row seats in theater 5 because all seats in the other rows were taken. The reclining chairs were nice but only about 5 feet in front of a 20 foot tall screen! How on earth are you supposed to see anything!! Just trying made me feel sick to my stomach. We asked the usher if we could sit on the floor in the back and were told no because of fire regulations. We tried it again and just couldnt do it. So we missed the movie but got our money refunded. I suggest that before purchasing tickets for a front row seat you ask to see the theater where your movie will be shown.

Speisen sehr gut.

I love the theater experience at the Embarcadero Center Cinema. I landed there one evening and found myself in seventh heaven when I sat in a fully reclinable bucket seat, with my feet up and abundant wiggle room. I have been addicted to this theater ever since in such a way that whenever I want to go to the movies, I check for what they are showing before actually deciding what movie to see. It also helps that they show mostly independent/artistic/original types of movies that I like, and that the A/V projection quality is excellent.

The oddest aspect about this newly redecorated theatre is its reserved seating. I would like to sit where I want and not be relegated to sit where the prepaid ticket machine says theres availability. The chairs, however, are comfy if not gratuitously so. I go to see a movie and maybe munch popcorn not to drink wine or sit next to somebody who reeks of wine and is loud and tipsy or enters late. Theres no way to get student discount at the computer enhanced ticket machines. For $13.50 per ticket, Ill not be returning any time soon.

Overall a very pleasant experience and I will definitely be coming back. The automated ticket kiosks are easy to use and intuitive and the service was very friendly. I was in one of the smaller side theaters to see Son of Saul and while the seats were indeed amazingly comfortable seating is extremely limited. We sat in the second row back from the screen and it was too close for my taste, this is especially true for a film with subtitles.

(Post remodel): worst front-row seats Ive ever seen in my life. Theyre comfortable, spacious, and fully recline... but since you cant watch the film from them, whats the point? Seriously, theyre around 7 feet from the front wall. To get some idea of the view, Imagine lying down at the foot of a building and trying to watch whats going on through a second-floor window. These guys have got some nerve charging money for them.

As a landmark chain movie house they have a nice selection of foreign and independent films, conveniently and pleasantly located. SInce they remodeled, theyve put in fully reclinable, oversized, leather seats that are really day beds, which cant be beat for comfort. Numbered seating though, so take care at box office. I sit in the back, which is fine in the smallish rooms

I really enjoy going here, as they have a great selection of movies, assigned seating so you can pick the one you want before trying to navigate the crowd, and a nice snack selection (including Slurpees!) My only complaint is how inaccessible it is; I can never remember which of the 3 buildings it lives in, and there is absolutely abysmal signage for "the cinema is here"

Incredibly comfortable movie experience. Large, comfy, electronic reclining seats paired with a fantastic, artisanal selection of food at the concession stand. Easy online ordering and ticket pick up at the theater made me wonder where this theater had been all my life. One of the best movie-going experiences you could ask for and reasonably priced, too!

The best theater in SF. The theater is clean and not filled with annoying teenagers. The movies shown here are more independent movies. There are 2 different types of screening rooms, one has full on recliner chairs and the other has regular movie seats. There is a full bar and of course popcorn for snacking. A great date night place!

Great Arthouse & Action fare bookings via Landmark Cinemas, this theater was also recently remodeled! After a four month 2013 remodel the seven auditorium cinema has deep cozy seats. beer & wine, fresh popcorn & kettle corn plus small hot plates, like steak & cilantro empanadas, vegetarian egg rolls or smoked gouda mac & cheese bites!

Such an upscale experience. The seats are large and comfy and the bar is a nice touch also. I believe I paid $20/ticket to see a series of oscar nominated short films which is pretty steep but it definitely felt like a place to treat yourself to every once in awhile and not your go to theatre for big box office films.
