From an ex employee: I was hired as a server through CraigsList in the 11th hour of New Years Ev bye. I sensed something was wrong as soon as I encountered the owner Dana and a guy who identified himself as a "chef" during my interview at 3:30pm that day. From what I gathered, they had NO OTHER employees, no dishwasher, no prep, no hostess, no bartender and no servers !! I was hired right away. As soon as it got busy, the "chef" started yelling at Dana in a VERY disrespectful manner. Dana would have to cover her ears in order for her to not succumb to the continuous verbal abuse, and her Mother was right there watching it happen ! Then, I was approached by a customer who informed me that his wife had found a metal screw in her food as he handed me a 2" phillips head steel screw. I immediately informed "chef", but instead of acting concerned for the customer, he started in on me with a tough guy type of accusatory verbal abuse. I quit on the spot and walked out. When I came for my check, Dana handed me a check for only $30. No gratuities, no apology or any sign of remorse for what had happened. She said that she was paying me as a 1099 employee but I never filled out any IRS documents. If she would just get rid of the jerk that cooks the food they could hire people to work there and it would probably be a really good restaurant !
I hate to have to leave a bad review for this place because the staff was very kind. However my food was really terrible! I was excited to try this place since it claims to be organic and sustainable. I ordered pasta with shrimp. It was completely flavorless. Not bland, flavorless. The pasta was overcooked to a mush. The shrimp were not properly cleaned and deveined, overcooked and rubbery with no taste. They claim the seafood is sustainable however this shrimp seemed like it was commercially farmed for chain restaurants as again it was flavorless. The sauce was a flavorless white that added nothing to the dish. If they had cooked with at least a pinch of salt the dish wouldnt have been so awful. I threw it away as it was takeout and gave up on dinner for the evening.
We visited thanks to the Monterey Jazz festival, as their summer Jazz Camp held an evening concert there. The festival filled the room to beyond capacity, so it would be unfair to say anything but positive comments for the staff who worked hard to make a full house happy. We had several appetizers, the salads were superb. Cant speak for the main courses. The music was followed by a salsa dance group. The decor is very interesting, and in between songs we found ourselves perusing the room floor to ceiling to inspect the curious fresco and 3D art from whales to pirate ships. Ahoy!
The music was great! Even though it was a little hard to find (you have to go up a hidden elevator off the street to a second floor) the atmosphere was refreshing and lively. The food was tasty, I had the seafood over linguini special, and ordered some bread, which came with some wine vinnegrette, olive oil and minced garlic. It was a memorable time, and I enjoyed singing along with the band. I highly recommend it. A very nice place.
I would of put 2 1/2 because... - it was very cold inside. - the meats (filet mignon and New York steak) were chewy. But... - the portions were a good size (not to big) - the vegetables and mashed potatoes were not bad The service was not bad (although there was only one person waiting and she did not remember if she had taken are order and then who had ordered what) but it was pretty slow.
First time coming here and spotted it after parking. The atmosphere is amazing. The life music is perfect and the artwork throughout the place looks fantastic. The food is spectacular. We had the lamp lollipops, the bay of pines burger, and the chicken pesto and everything was delicious down to the last drop. This is an amazing place to visit and dine.
We were very excited by the menu, but all of the food was flavorless except the burger which was okay. The kale in the salad was hard and un-chewable. The fries had no salt, the lobster had no flavor at all and the pasta had a little very bland sauce, and almost no vegetables. Also the decor is quite strange.
Great service !! Food was exceptional , salad was fresh and plentiful make sure you try the Fruits of the Sea appetizer topped with sherry cream sauce served in a puff pastry shell . They have a full bar wine and beer selection is awesome. Cant wait to come back and try other items on the menu.
Delicious. Went with bf and we both had turkey burgers which were cooked to perfection. Everything is cooked to order and it tastes that way. Forget the fancy smancy, this is the citys best burger and thats really all you need to know.
They have salsa dance lessons every Tuesday that dont require a partner and are great for everyone from beginners to moderate level dancers. Super fun!!!
Food is good. I got a smaller version of the ship sinker burger. The service was really slow and constantly had to remind the server for everything.
Very few vegan options. They were short staffed on a Sunday night, and unable to accommodate our allergies. Our server was super nice, though.
Great place! Wonderful atmosphere, food was terrific. If you are anywhere near Fishermans Wharf, head over a few blocks for a great meal.
Closed today for private brunch. Didnt bother to put it on web, just a cheesy sign on door. Must not care about business to the public.
Wow! A hidden gem! Beautiful atmosphere in which to eat delicious food! I will be returning.
Love this place. Interesting decor, flavorful foods, & always good people watching!
Words can not describe this AWESOME place. Music on the weekend nights
