I saw Sergio Mendes and Sheila E here on New Years Eve 2013. The venue was really easy to reach via Los Angeles Metro (because me and my boyfriend had NO intention of paying the outrageous twenty-five dollar parking fee). The walk less than a block from the concert hall to the metro station (if you exit the station from the closest exit to the concert hall). The venue is gorgeous inside and out. Even though our seats were behind the stage the acoustics were great and we were super close and could see all the musicians. We really did not feel like we were "behind" them at all. (Then when the Brazilian dancing girls joined Sergio Mendes on stage all wearing feathers and thongs, my boyfriend was thrilled to be behind the stage gazing at a whole line of tight Brazilian female asses giggling to the music). The bathrooms are clean, beautiful and plentiful enough that one never has to wait in line. All of the concessions are totally, utterly, outrageously overpriced. Even from the high end 7-11 that is inside the concert hall. That did not bother my boyfriend and I any was we had enjoyed cuisine from a nice Thai restaurant before the concert. The surprise of the evening for us was the gorgeous skyline view from the "Fraternity Of Friends" garden on the concert hall roof. There are these trees in the garden that have these cluster pink flowers that smell heavenly. I mean they really smell like they are ambrosia, food of the gods. Since it was dark we could not read what type of tree it was. But do not visit the concert hall without going outside to the Fraternity of Friends garden and and smelling this tree.

One of the most iconic buildings in LA is the Walt Disney Concert Hall where the Phil Harmonics resides. The wavy architecture of this place is often used in engagements shoots, it brings a sort of modern romance with the stainless steel exterior and random pathways to secret gardens. The architecture inside was just as fascinating, the concert hall is designed as a circle based audience so you can literally sit anywhere and still get a decent view and not having to worry about not being able to hear the performance. I def have a new found respect for musician, I attended the Chinese New Year themed event, where they brought three amazing musicians from Asia , Violinist, Pianist and the Chelo. I was amazed how they were able to incorporate water spinning in a bowl as an instrument, if i shut my eyes I can visualized sword fighting and flying around mountain to mountain. During the encore scene they brought out the dragon dancers, dancing to the tune of the music that was played. If they played soft and lightly the dragons would go to sleep but if the tune became upbeat than the dragons would dance around and play with the audience, it was def. a fun time! Parking is $9 all around

My wife and I love going to concerts, but weve gotten older and the amount of aggravation caused by the simple act of parking, getting inside, and leaving a venue actually causes us to skip shows we would otherwise enjoy. That said, WOW, I love Disney Concert Hall! It is a beautiful venue with a great view of the stage no matter where you sit, and the icing on the cake is how painlessly accessible it is! They have a huge parking lot under the venue, and it is extremely easy to leave and get back on the freeway. Theres even a Metro stop nearby (Red Line I think), so you can easily take public transit (in LA? I know, its awesome). My only warning-- if you are seated in the Orchestra View section (behind the stage) you are right next to/below the pipe organ. Find out if they use the organ in the show. It is EXTREMELY LOUD and surprising if you arent expecting it. Seriously, never thought Id need earplugs listening to classical music, but you just might.

We received tickets for Christmas to see Herbie Hancock which we had been looking forward to. We were very excited to see the concert hall and to hear the incredible acoustics. It is unfortunate to present a negative comment but I must. The building is fabulous, our seats Terrace level 4 above and immediate to the side of the performers gave us an incredible view of the musicians but with all of the amazing sound equipment the hall contains only one speaker pointed toward us. The sound for our seats and Im sure for hundreds of others was absolutely amateurish and an incredible disappointment. We heard a lot of percussion and a lot of muffled bass. We came for the experience but we came especially for the music. We got a lot of noise. When the floor audience erupted in applause for a solo performance including Mr Hancocks we felt as if we had missed out on everything but the drummer.

Right on par. Architecture of the 21st century. Fun fact #1 - The crazy colors of the seats in the main auditorium are so that when the seats are empty, there still maintains the illusion of a packed house Fun fact #2 - The steel matte panels serve two purposes, reflecting the sky/context and flexibilty for the curvature Fun fact #3 - A special computer program was created in Frank Gehrys research lab just to figure out how to build this piece of architecture and his other buildings with similar geometry Fun fact #4 - When empty, you can perfectly hear a person talking from the opposite site of the auditorium. Fun fact #5 - The exterior panels were initally designed to be glossy like a mirror but surrounding buildings complained about the glare and the heat it produced so they had to sand down the panels to make it a matte texture.

A true gem in the heart of Los Angeles with several hidden treats. Much of the facility is open to the pubic to tour during several hours every day. There are audio tours that can be done at your own pace and convenience, but there are also docent led tours twice a day of the entire music center complex, which I would highly recommend. This building is a thoughtful modern engineering marvel. The only downside is that the main auditorium is not part of any of the tours due to ongoing use by the symphony. Dont miss the upper level garden or the path that leads you up and over the top of part of the building. A very unique and memorable place to explore and learn about on a visit to Los Angeles.
