What a horrible visit. Parking is unclear. I parked in the back entrance. This being the grand opening and such a big deal, youd think theyd have signs telling people where to go. We eventually made our way to the entrance of the skyspace, which is half way up the stairs on the side of the building. I waited 20 minutes to get in. The entrance is not identified well and there was nobody ushering people where to go. Just as I almost got in, a group of 20 was ushered past me. I was like, "wait I didnt pay $92 for 2 VIP passes to be passed over like that." That was only the beginning. Then we waited to get past security. They took my wifes water bottle, this will become an issue later. We then waited for the elevator to the 54th floor. Saw some "attractions" that were basically glorified posters. And waited to take a photo. I even asked someone, if I dont want the photo, can I just move on, and they said no I have to wait. Just then, another group of 20 was ushered past me. Oh heck no!!! Next we waited in line for another elevator to the 70th floor. And another group of 20 walks past, as well as a kid and his punk friends escorted through who probably had more money and clout than me, so there. Then we get to the 70th floor and nobody is telling anyone where to go or what to do. We figured out the line that wrapped around the building is the line for the slide. Got in line and waited 1 hour. At this point, its been 2 hours since I parked my car. We waited and waited. And guess what, more rich kids got escorted to the front of the line by staff. Eventually I got frustrated and found Blair, director of operations. Hoping he would right some wrongs, he basically told me they realized they messed up and gave me a pass to come back another day (not a VIP pass mind you). I went back to my wife and we figured wed wait some more. We came for a slide and wanted to stay for the slide. Well, 30 minutes later, theyre stopping the slide for fireworks and so we gave up. I found Blair again, but on my way to him notice the line is tripled in length and people are still coming up is masses. I said to him, from a operations point of view, you need to stop letting people in. You gotta shut it down. Fire hazard, crowd control, etc... You gotta do something. He blew me off. So we head for the elevators to leave, and theres a 1 hour wait for that. At this point, Im getting claustrophobic. I asked the bartender for a water and he says hes not allowed to sell them anymore (past 8pm). I found a water fountain. 1 isnt working and the other one - you guessed it - a long line. I had to make a scene and threaten either a medical emergency or a incident involving handcuffs. But I got on that elevator!!!! When we got downstairs, turns out fights broke out, people were panicking and they WERE STILL LETTING PEOPLE IN. THE BOX OFFICE WAS STILL CHARGING PEOPLE!!!! A disaster on all levels. City of LA should never had allowed this event nor this attraction. A copy of this review is going to my councilmans office and someone will be held responsible for the danger they put all those people in. Its not even about money or convenience, this whole OUE thing stinks of back door deals that put money before people. And as for the passes you gave me worth $8, thanks but no thanks.

The entrance is located on the second floor, but is accessed from the outside on W. 5th street. The cost to go up to the top is $25, and an extra $8 dollars to go on the slide,... once! Lucky for us we were able to get the military discount which is $20 for both, the ride to the top and the slide, but dont forget the $1 service fee for a grand total of $21. After purchasing your ticket you will have to go through a metal detector. You then walk a little more where your greeted by another staff member who shows you the elevator to the 54th floor. After reaching the 54th floor your then guided to a second elevator which takes you up to the 72nd floor. There is where you have to walk up another few steps to get on the slide. At the top of the sky space there is a couple of things to do. You can grab yourself an $8 ice cream and go outside where there are two observation decks. Both decks offer (2) stationary binoculars for you to observe the L.A. Scenery. You can see Dodger Stadium, Hollywood Sign (during the day), Pasadena, Griffith observatory just to name a few. My favorite thing to do at the top was take a picture with the interactive lights. They move when you move and change colors. We were able to take quite a few pictures. I guess the best time to come is late at night. The experience is cool for tourist, but for a So Cal guy like me $25 seems a little steep to see places of L.A. I see all the time.

So, not the best place to come when looking for a few thrills in LA. For what you get, its a bit overpriced, and the hassle of getting there & getting in certainly isnt worth it. I went for the grand opening, (to the public), and after waiting half an hour to get in, we were ushered through security, up to the 54th floor, (where there is almost nothing to see except an impressive 360-degree display of the LA skyline & a few mediocre attractions), and then up to the 70th floor, where you can see out over every part of LA. In the daytime, it leaves much to be desired, as all you can see is an almost colorless landscape & your quintessential LA smog. Though I can imagine that at night, it must be rather gorgeous, & I wish I could have had an eyeful of that glittering landscape. The only other attraction to be had at this level is the Skyscape Slide... Which, after an hour of waiting in an enormous line, turned into one of the most disappointing 4 seconds of my life. You blink, & its over. Soon there will be a restaurant at the top, (which I guarantee will also be overpriced, though might be worth the view), and a few cafes & bars at the bottom. Even for a tourist, this may not be the best that LA has to offer, but at least there are plenty of good restaurants nearby to wash the bad taste out of your mouth after this experience, if need be.

$35 to go up to the 2nd tallest building in DTLA (11th tallest in the US) and ride down ONE full story of slide….. Really for $35 you couldn’t add in 4 more stories, a souvenir photo and some water. Going up the elevators was exciting, and on a random Tuesday evening the wait was nonexistent and the view was spectacular. But really $35…… BEST part of this whole experience was Bernadette the line attendant. Her sass was life and she totally made it worth it to wait 15 mins while the manager raced down 70 stories to get more copies of a waiver. Oh yea if you wanna snap or video record yourself going down one whole story of slide (for 15 seconds) then you need to sign a waiver saying they are not liable for damaged phones. The slide isn’t fast or windy or winding so holding on to the magic carpet they provide and your camera isn’t that risky. They do have this cool little interactive museum before you ascend to the final level of the building but it’s not worth no $35. Bar is not open to the public yet and they do have that new swank restaurant on the 71st floor where everything is $71 but I mean if they charging $35 for one for story imagine what they giving you for 71 dollars.
