This place is no joke. The kava root is seriously something else. I have been making kava root teas for nearly 2 decades, but this is different. Its super strong, and Ava--the "bartender" that took care of us--was SUPER knowledgeable, very courteous, and had a great personality. Ava recommended the Cloud Breaker (might have the name wrong) and the High Tide. These are not the good tasting drinks at Root... theyre the "traditional" drinks, intended to give you the "kava high," which is seriously awesome. I had the drink over 3 hours ago, and I still cant feel my mouth. However, I can still drive, Im still very coherent, and Im still working (Im a data scientist), but I feel very "laid back," in a way. I love this stuff. And the so-called "reverse tolerance" means that as I continue to frequent Root, I will need less and less of the stuff to achieve the same "high." All around, this was a fantastic experience, and I am the newest loyal customer of this "bar." Im happy to have found such a cool new concept. I dont drink, smoke, or use, but this feels different. Please check it out. And, if you can, go when Ava is there. She will take care of you. Then, play some giant Jenga, while you let the effects sink in!

The bartender was really friendly and accommodating! He knows a lot about kava and its effects. The flavor of kava itself takes some time getting used to because its bitter and has a raw flavor, but the relaxing effects are worth it. I went in one Sunday with my boyfriend and his brother. The place is so beautiful and relaxing. We sampled some shots of chocolate kava, which I recommend for first-time kava drinkers. I got a kava colada and they got high tides, which are straight kava drinks. We thought of it like the high tides being drinking alcohol straight and the kava colada as being like a fruity cocktail. Ill have to go back and try some more!

Bartender recommended 3 high tides. This was way too much kava for someone trying it for the first time. I felt extremely sick afterwards and felt as if I had been ripped off. Nice atmosphere, but I feel that they should recommend something realistic for individuals trying kava for the first time. Would have given a higher rating because the kava was okay, but knocking off stars for the bad recommendation and experience.

Great, low-key atmosphere to work or just relax. Theres a cozy upstairs area with outlets and couches if you need to use your laptop. The employees are super personable as well. One of my favorite places in Davis!

Great place for kombucha and chill vibes. Also a great place to catch up with friends and play giant Jenga at! Just one recommendation: go easy on the kava. Its a rather interestingly flavored drink....

Super chill environment. Laid back with couches and games. The only down is that the drinks are kinda expensive, but not much different than an alcoholic cocktail. Totally worth it.
