We spent more than we had expected for 2 "good" tickets to see and hear Lilly Tomlin. We had seen her on Broadway years ago in "...Signs of Intelligent Life..." and were very much looking forward to laughing with her again in our own back yard. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the most disappointing evening we have experienced in the theater in many years. I had planned on obtaining an assistive listening device since I had had trouble hearing in the Center on several prior occasions. Before the show we stood in line for at least 30 minutes to obtain the earphones. When the line reached four people in front of me, the agent announced that all the devices had been distributed and additional ones would not be available until the performance was nearly over, and there would be no intermission. No offer of ticket refund was made. We simply had to take our chances. Wrong! I could not hear anything for the entire performance. We asked others around us in the First Tier if they could hear and many said NO. And nothing in the production offered assistance for gaining meaning from context. It all sounded mumbled. We spoke to the usher and was told there was nothing they could do. Needless to say, we will think twice before ever attending performances at the Center again. On the other hand, the next night we attended the presentation by Boz Skaggs and enjoyed it completely. We will have no hesitation in supporting presentations at the Segerstrom Concert Hall at any future time.. Copies of this message will be forwarded to the offices of Terrence W. Dwyer, President and Lawrence M. Higby, Board Chairman.

It is definitely 80s-tastic in here! Compared to the ritzy renovated SCR and the other Segerstrom Hall, this building is definitely showing its age. The outside still looks pretty innovative and interesting, but inside its all 80s maroon carpeting (duct-taped in areas, no less) and brass rails. Nonetheless, its a nice cozy venue in which to enjoy a performance. Won a couple of Alice Cooper tickets and had a very nice time. We were in orchestra row U, so pretty far back, but dead center so still had a great view of the stage. My biggest beef with this place is the fact that the bars closed after the performance started, and there was nothing to indiciate that this was going to happen--no signs, no comments from the bartenders or ushers...very disappointing! I guess most performances have intermissions, during which the bars are usually open (they even have a thing where you can buy drinks ahead of time and have it wait for you during intermission, very cool), but this performance did not have an intermission, and therefore no additional drinks could be purchased. Not sure when and if Ill ever be back, but I will be sure to file this away for future reference...

Shout out to Marcie in the box office. I accidentally purchased two tickets to see Beautiful the Musical for tonight in New York instead of here in California. Naturally we couldnt make it to new York on such short notice, and the vendor we purchased the tickets from were incredibly unhelpful and wouldnt allow us to return or transfer the tickets. We decided to go to the box office to buy tickets for tonight anyway because our hearts were already set on seeing the show. We told Marcie what happened as we were deciding on seats to purchase, she politely excused herself for a minute and when she came back she told us that this happens all the time, and her supervisor would allow us to purchase 25$ rush tickets for seats that are normally 150$. She really went above and beyond to make our situation positive and memorable. She really blew our minds with how helpful and sweet she was. Especially since the Performing arts center and the third party we purchased our original tickets from are not affiliated in any way. Wonderful company and wonderful customer service!! Thank you again Marcie!

I really appreciate it when broadway productions show here instead of my having to make the trek to Los Angeles. Although, sometimes, you just have to watch it in LA for the "full experience." :) Shows Ive seen here: **CATS** We had nosebleed seats, so the experience wasnt as great. However, they were free tickets from a family member, so I cannot complain! :D **WICKED** We had Balcony seats. It was a little odd sitting to the side of the stage, but I did like that I have an aerial view so I could see everything :) **BEAUTY & THE BEAST** I was lucky to have Orchestra seats, however, it was right under the Loge area, so I didnt like how something was "looming" over me. It was the closest Ive ever been to the stage though! **PRIDE & PREJUDICE IN SAMUELI THEATER** Since this was in the Samueli Theater it was MUCH MORE INTIMATE to the stage. I absolutely LOVED this play and the small theater. It felt like a large classroom instead of a theater and the actors were superb. :) Not to mention the buildings are gorgeous and great photo opps. Lovely theater :)

Horrible experience. Not once, but twice. Ill never go there again. My husband and I are handicapped, me right now with a broken ankle and him with congestive heart failure. The parking attendants would not let us park anywhere, but in the parking structure and there were no handicapped spaces left. You have to walk a long ways to get to the theater. It would have been closer to park for free at So. Coast Plaza and walk. The parking attendants were rude, the docents not understanding, and the Theater itself, not handicap friendly. There are elevators to get to the proper level, but to get to our seats, we had to go down a flight of stairs and then up a flight to our seats. I was so upset by the time we got to our seats, I couldnt fully enjoy the show. Leaving was terrible, too. We had to wait two or three times for the elevators, both in the building and at the parking garage. I was in so much pain, I was crying. I really dont know how they get away with it. There are laws about accessibility for disabled persons, and Segerstrom breaks all of them.

The Theatre was nice and modern, but the facilities were lacking in quanity. I have been to Broadway shows in New York and they had more restrooms in theatres half this size. I brought my wife to watch Wicked and before going we ate at Leatherbys Cafe Rouge. Which I recommend because if you eat there the Valet is only $10 instead of $20 and regular self parking is $10 anyways, also you get 10% off your bill by printing out their online coupon and showing your tickets. Seating was uncomfortably close, they really did the minimal to get the most seats at little cost. If you have a choice of going to the same show at another Theatre I highly recommend it. The performance was great but I felt the Theatre was a scam, in the sense of getting too many people too closely put in one place with insufficient facilities. There were astronomical lines to both the mens and womens restrooms well after the curtain during intermission, so do expect to wait till you leave to get to use the restroom.

the performer (patti luPone) was great, as always. but NEVER go to this theatre if you cant sit in the front half of the orchestra or in the top tier or two FACING the performer; ive been stuck twice BEHIND the performer and it was miserable, except the second time i refused to sit there and because the theatre was only 1/2 full (a shame!) i moved to a seat facing the stage; i see plays once a year in nyc and have never seen a theatre this poorly designed with seats behind the stage on any of the acrophobic tiers; they are horrible, and mgmt at the shows knows little to nothing; at the "manhattan transfer" show, 1/2 the "..transfer" was missing, and the other 1/2 announced and apologized for that at the beginning (but had "fill-ins" for the MAIN 2 players!); should have gone immediately and gotten a refund... when i mentioned it to mgmt, they didnt even know that 2 of the 4 key players were absent! so.... beware of where youre seated AND what youre seeing...
