Parque histórico situado en el extremo de Financial District. El nombre viene de la batería de cañones que se encuentran en el parque y que protegieron a la ciudad a comienzos del siglo XIX. En esta época este terreno era un islote rocoso que posteriormente fue allanado y unido a Manhattan. En el centro del parque se encuentra localizado el Castle Clinton National Monument, un fuerte construido en 1811 para repeler los ataques británicos. El castillo adoptó el nombre del alcalde DeWitt Clinton y fue declarado monumento nacional en 1946. Es allí donde se encuentra la taquilla para comprar los tickets del barco que va a la Estatua de la Libertad y Ellis Island. Desde el parque se aprecian vistas panorámicas de la bahía de Nueva York, la Estatua de la Libertad y de Ellis Island

El Castle Clinton National Monument es una construcción en piedra que pretendía ser una fortaleza con vistas a la bahía del río Hudson a su cruce con el East River, y suponían la vía de entrada a la ciudad por la vía marítima. Aunque nunca se llegó a emplear como fortaleza, hoy día este edificio se ha habilitado para la venta de entradas para los ferries y barcos para ir a La Estatua de la Libertad y a Ellis Island.

A slice of early American military history. When built during the 1st decade of the 19th century America was not getting the respect it had earned... & deserved. Our republic was unique; the world stood in awe of our stamina, & was sure that wed soon throw in the towel. & beg Britain to allow us back. New York harbor was our most prized asset, & Castle Clinton was designed to proudly stand sentry should we be invaded. As you walk between its walls... try to imagine what it would have been like to be stationed there... a garrison guarding a new nation, still teething. Within 5 years we were again at war; this garrison was a key defender against, first the Canadians from 1812 thru mid-1814, & then the Brits during 1814. However... even w/out its rich history its just plain -fun- to explore!

Antiguo fuerte en Manhattan a orillas del East River. Es conocido porque desde aquí parten los barcos con rumbo a la Estatua de la Libertad. La construcción en si es muy antigua y se nota en los detalles de la misma. Dentro tiene una pequeña boletería y una oficina del servicio público americano. Es curioso visitarlo por su valor histórico, pero no por lo que pueda ofrecer.

Me gusta por que es un monumento que es parte de la historia del nacimiento de los USA, cuenta con vestigios de las piedras originales de lo que fuera dicho Castillo, para mejor saber hay guías especializados con los que uno puede contar, así como afiches pegados que cuentan la historia del Castillo Clinton, insisto me gusta he estado ahí varias veces.

Lieu ou vous devez prendre les billets ou faire les échanges de citypass pour allez a Ellis Island et la Statue de la Liberté. Quand vous rentrez dans la cours intérieur, allez vers les files de droites. elles sont plus rapides et souvent une personnes remonte la file pour les porteurs de citypass. Bonne visite

I was quite disappointed in my visit to Castle Clinton. My ancestors came to the US through here and I asked if they had guided tours. The man running the gift shop said to ask a ranger. When I saw aranger, he told me that all the rangers were too busy managing people in the Statue of Liberty ticket line to talk to me. While I understand that the line was busy, the park service really should not be prioritizing one Monument over another and should give Castle Clinton its due recognition. Additionally, line management really should be run by Statue Cruises, the parks concessionaire.

I love Battery Park! The gardens are so beautiful, the walk through is great with the water views and the Statue of Liberty ! You can take the ferry over to Ellis Island which is so interesting if youre a history lover like me. I just think of my great grandmother coming here from a little town in Europe and after that long ocean journey to see the the majestic Statue of Liberty as they came to the end of their long journey to America. She must have been a breathtaking site to see! You can also see the Freedom Tower which within walking distance and is next to the 911 Memorial.

I just visited Castle Clinton this April and as with most national parks/monuments/sites, I cant wait to return! Its a former battery (fort) which has been repurposed over the years, now standing as the home of a small exhibit as well as ferry tickets (at least, I saw signs for it). Unless youre really inquisitive, make sure you seek out the small exhibit near the entrance furthest from the water, to see how the citys shape has changed over the years. Directly across from the exhibit is the Rangers office, where you can also grab your National Parks stamp!

Battery Park en general es un lugar agradable para pasear. Situado en la zona sur de la isla. Desde alli sale el Ferry hacia Staten Island. Junto al Castle esta situada la "bola" que habia junto a las torres gemelas, tal y como quedo tras el accidente de 2001.

It seemed to be getting used as a place to buy tickets to the ferry ride (Im assuming, could have been to something else). This meant it was half packed with people just standing blocking the view of the castle. So, as far as ticket booths go, its cool, but as an actual destination itself its not all that enjoyable since there are a bunch of people packed in like sardines. If it wasnt a to ticket booth with would have walked around and looked at it longer and probably had a more positive review of it

Antiguo fuerte, que servia de protección para la isla de manhattan, dentro es donde se compran los tickets para ir a la estatua de la Libertad. Recomiendo ir un rato antes para disfrutar un poco de este sitio y respirar un poco de historia.

Óriási sorokra számítsunk, ha innen megyünk át a Szabadság Szoborhoz! Simán körbeért a sor mikor ott voltunk :) Vigyázat! Itt csak a kompot lehet fizetni, és előre kell jegyet venni a szobor meglátogatására!

Ancien fort qui accueillait les migrants avant la construction dEllis Island. Aujourdhui cest à lintérieur quil faut aller pour y acheter ses billets pour visiter la statue de la liberté. Sinon, pas grand chose à y voir.

Ive been to events at Castle Clinton a few times and Im so glad that they didnt remove it a long time ago like they have with so much of the historic relics. Its so easy for people now to forget that New York exists because of its proximity to the Hudson river and the Atlantic ocean. The views from Castle Clinton are wonderful, because its one of the few places on the New York waterfront that you can see a sunrise or a sunset.

Castle Clinton initially appears to be just the place to buy tickets for Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, but I later learned that it was actually one of the original immigration ports of New York, even before Ellis opened in 1890. Personally, my ancestors immigrated over 30 years before Ellis Island was operational, and most likely came into America through Castle Clinton - very cool!
