I took my daughter here during the winter, as I have in the past. The Domes are a nice place to go to if you are trying to find a warm activity in the winter. They have a coat rack for the guests here. I had my winter coat stolen. Apparently a couple came in to the Domes (Free admission for Milwaukee Co residents on Monday) put on my coat (and another ladies) and walked out the door. The Director rushed me and my daughter into a basement area to get us out of site of the other guests. We sat in a basement office for almost an hour before an officer arrived to file a report. He is the gentlemen that informed me that the Domes do not have any cameras inside or outside their building. I should add that during all of this Ms. Director did not offer me a glass of water, or a coffee or even a pass to return to the Domes! When I emailed her about replacing my coat she told me that the Domes are in no way responsible for lost or stolen items. She reminded me of the small sheet of paper taped to the wall that was written in pen. (they have since added metal plated signs) After my time in the basement of the Domes was over and the Officer (who was very nice I should add) left Ms. Director simply asked me to come again.... The Domes are a nice activity that can last you for about an hour and half, but please leave your personal belongings and anything valuable in your car. And keep them well hidden too, the Domes do not have parking lot security either. Children should probably not be brought here though. Unless you feel safe being in a building that has no cameras in it.

I have always loved going to the Mitchell Domes, and have never had a problem being treated the way some of the folks on here claim to have been treated. I have attended weddings there, and a birthday party. We never had anyone treat us "rudely." I have a nice Minolta digital Camera, no one has ever asked me to pay for a "special permit" when I took it with me, although nowadays I use my high resolution smart phone for most of my picture taking. Those of you who complained about paying extra for taking fancy pictures, knew you were trying to get one over on them, otherwise you would have simply gone home and changed cloths rather than pay an extra fee. I guess people like "girl1" on here doesnt realize that the Domes cannot allow people to act like they own the place just because they have paid to rent some time there, if they did, they would never be able to keep them in good condition for everyone else to enjoy. Also, the serving staff was probably simply trying to save your cousin some money, since any damaged items and extra clean up needed as a result of careless party guests are charged to the people who invited them. I guess my generation was taught better. When we are invited to events, we do not treat serving staff like "hired help" and we do not expect to be allowed to rearrange the furniture. Maybe next time, you will simply ask the staff to move some tables around for your "game." At the birthday party I attended, thats what we did. They were very accomodating. If its not yours, ask. Simple as that.

Though they are beautiful, Im giving only one star to "The Domes" after just having had a TERRIBLE experience there. If youre with a well-dressed group of people, watch out... I enjoy "fancy" dress - skirt, nice shoes and some frills - and yesterday I met up with some like-minded finely-attired friends for a Sunday afternoon stroll. When we arrived the receptionist, then manager, very rudely demanded that we were to either pay a $63 professional photography fee or go home and change. When we explained we werent there for any purpose other than simply visiting like anyone else, we were told theyd let us in but, "Take one picture and we will kick you OUT!" By their own published policies, we were in no way required to pay anything but the normal admission price. I think they were trying to extort money from us and wonder if they do it to church groups and "Red Hat Society" ladies as well. After an upsetting arguement we eventually got in, but I wont go back. Quoting a man whod been behind us in line, "The way they treated you was awful." Yes, it was.

It is a nice place to visit... However its too bad that the Crooked & Dishonest Politicians in Milwaukee & Milwaukee County let The Mitchell Park Domes go to waste & did not keep up with the repairs on the place like they should have. As a result at this current Time The Domes are closed because of the Crooked & Dishonest Politicians who pocketed the money needed to fix The Domes which resulted in concert falling & breaking as well as wasting money on a New Bucks Arena that we dont need because the Milwaukee Bucks are a 3rd Rate Team that has not won a Championship in God knows how long. They could have too that money from The New Bucks Arena & put it towards fixing The Domes. Other then that, I have gone to The Domes for over 30 Years until it closed recently. I always Loved seeing Poland Under Glass there as well as all the Flowers, Plants, & Trees there & The Train Show. The only reason why I am giving this 5 Stars is because I Love Poland Under Glass there.

We attended the New Years Eve event with our 5 year old and our 7 month old. It was so packed you could barely walk. Each of the domes had different attractions in them but you couldnt see any of them because people were too packed in. We tried putting our 5 year old on my husbands shoulders but he still couldnt see the fire dancers over all of the people. We tried to go into the desert dome for balloon animals and face painting but we couldnt even get in because of all the people! We just left at that point. It was sad because we drove 40 minutes and paid $35 to see/do nothing and leave after a half hour. Next year I really hope they only let a certain number of people in so its not that ridiculously crowded. Also, the line for food was so long it wouldve take a half hour or longer to get anything. We just left and went to Applebees. Made for a very lame New Years Eve for us.

“The Domes” in Mitchell Park are not to be missed if visiting Milwaukee. There are three main domes; two have permanent exhibits (desert and tropical) while the third changes with the seasons.Adjacent to the domes are the green houses. Often there will be exhibitions at the domes or groups for wedding photos. If you stand at the entrance and face South, there is a long expanse of grass that appears depressed. At one time this had been a sunken garden. Outside of the entrance is a human sundial. (Obviously it only works on sunny days which in Milwaukee can be rare.) Plenty of parking and the entire place is handicap accessible. Inside each dome are scores of flowers, cacti and trees. Visitors can wander through the various paths - photos are not only allowed, they are encouraged. Do not however, pick the flowers.
