This is a good museum. From the outside you can tell that its an interesting and inspiring building. On the inside the new part of the building is beautiful and inspiring. The actual galleries down the hall in the old part of the building. Well thats a pretty plain bit of architecture. But thats OK because thats where the artwork shines. And you can get a really wide variety of art here. They have modern to very old. So many schools and styles in between. Some pieces so striking I could spend hours just gazing. And the special exhibits are often surprisingly good. I wouldnt expect them to score Gainsboroughs and Rembrants and Raphaels. Hours and hours of staring potential for single pieces in these cases! Its a bit pricey to go once. But not so bad for the yearly pass. And even better on first Fridays when its free. The docents are friendly. Parking is an area for creativity. You can spend a lot to park under the museum (I never have). You can spend a reasonable amount to park across the street in the structure. And you can park for free and get some steps on your fitbit if you park along Lincoln Mem Dr or in the park.

This is no ordinary building or an ordinary art museum. I call it "The Celestial Ship" The monochromatic use of the color white provides an experience that truly cannot be captured in any form of film. You dont just see the Museum you feel it. The building is the largest work of art on display, but dont be satisfied to look from the outside in you must experience it from the inside out. Simply, said this building provides an experience an essence. Entering the building for the first time leaves you in awe and upon your return it welcomes you. It is munificence and calm, and invites and welcomes you to see the artists who have captured the sublime and sacred that humanity has to offer. The building offers the spiritual setting for your own exploration and appreciation. Upon entering you feel like you’re walking into the womb of creativity and the many artist who contribute to society and humanity display their observations, and their thoughts for your viewing. This building has a message from Santiago Calatrava, to everyone who visits, and everyone who visits feels it!

Ive been a member of the MAM for about 10 years and was really disappointed when I stopped by last month at ~4:20 (the museum closes at 5) and was told very rudely by front desk staff that their registers were closed and they close at 5, didnt even bother to ask me if Im a member and immediately carried on conversing with one another. I dont get to visit Milwaukee too often anymore but always try to stop by when I can. From a membership standpoint, I feel the museum has an elitist vibe that is not desirable for me personally and I dont think Ill be maintaining my membership anymore after this last sad venture. Beyond that, the art and exhibits they house have always been great but subtleties such as these matter.

The Milwaukee Art Museum has a fantastic range of art types (photography, painting, sculpture, etc.) from varying time periods and puts on excellent rotating exhibits. The architecture alone is reason to visit, and the view over the lake from the main lobby area is great. There are also MAM After Dark events with fun live music and art features. This is a great place to take friends or family and is a pretty solid date/afternoon out location as well. I recommend buying a membership if you go with any degree of frequency since you get essentially unlimited access during normal hours in addition to early previews and free admission to MAM After Dark events. Definitely worth the extra dollars.

Weve been to art museums all over the world...this is one of the great ones...from the newer whale like white structure that houses special exhibits and cafes, to the older building which houses the main collection. Theres plenty to look at. They offer discovery kits for kids to have a more interactive experience looking for the art..the collections of both classic and contemporary art are extensive. So much to look at...we spent hours here. Id recommend doing the top floor first...its a bit more packed with the older artworks in more rooms...coming down to the contemporary galleries afterwords, which were very spacious with huge dramatic works of art is a breath of awesomeness.

Went to the Art Museum today with my kids ages 9, 7, and 4. As soon as we got there the security guard followed us around as if my children were going to ruin all the artwork. Made us feel SO uncomfortable. One security in guards in particular followed us around to make sure my kids werent misbehaving. So disappointed so we quickly rushed through the first floor. Besides that, all the artwork was beautiful and we had a great experience in the Cafe, the kids room, and another security guard on the 2nd floor was a pleasure. At least he seemed to understand it was supposed to be a kid friendly experience. I dont think I will ever take them back there.

The best,Worth the TRIP,Rode Harleys around there! We stayed at Richard Bong state park,to the west and down the interstate. Go to MARS cheese factory, for the food and drinks.Just about any place on the interstate is a half a day of fun. We had more fun riding on the new roads, that skirt the town in a gridwork pattern. Go to the museum early,so you have a lot of time. There rush hour is is not bad,but the side roads, are not as bad as the interstate for traffic. Spend the second day going to the HARLEY DAVIDSON museum,or go on a FREE factory tour. August is the month to ride upnorth.

A few girlfriends ventured out to Milwaukee for a birthday celebration. The Art Museum was one of our top to dos and we were not disappointed. For heaven sake, even the PARKING GARAGE was gorgeous! *Looking at you Field Musuem* The exhibits were thoughtful and varied. We saw Georgia o Keefe, Picasso and a few other artists of note. Admission was relatively inexpensive. We took about 3 hours to see everything. I could have totally stayed longer. If youre a Milwaukee resident - youre lucky. If youre not, get your butt out there for a weekend getaway. Highly recommended!

I absolutely LOVE coming to the art museum, but I wish they had more hands on activities or things to do. Yes, art museums are supposed to be look with your eyes and dont touch with your hands, but maybe there should be more areas like the Kohls activity lab, but easy crafts laid out across tables with crafts or just paper and pencils for parents and kids, etc. However, even though Im older (16) and I know not to touch the pieces - speaking from someone with add itd give me something to do and keep me better engaged.

It was a nice experience. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous. Even the guards were willing to go out of their way to help us. The exhibits are plenty with modern art and the American art and cubism, Renaissance, Ancient Grecian and Roman artworks, etc. We were particularly interested in the works of Picasso, Chagall, and Monet. But there were many other famous works on display. There was also a paper workshop where kids can create their own artworks. The admission is not free but well work it.
