Isreal Horovitzs My Old Lady at Harlequin Productions: The movies and plays I like usually have some kind of trifecta going—in this case: well written, well cast, well acted. The script is multi-layered and dares to step off into morally ambiguous territory in defense of the human spirit. The cast features Olympias own Jason Haws; we are inordinantly blessed with his ...talents and he is quickly becoming my favorite actor at Harlequin. The grand dame of the the shows title is executed marvelously by... I dont know her name but shes very good. My one critique is that the play could be tightened up a little during the drunkalogue in the middle. Haws character seems to lapse into an irish brogue which doesnt fit his characters New York Jewish roots. Also, I dont believe that hes falling in love with his lady interest, the chemistry seems cold and flat. The play does happen to be beautifully written, a labor of love. It gave me pause to think for some time afterward.

MUST SEE Before Its Gone! Five Stars for The Love List at The Harlequin. While reminiscent of a long since past episode of Twilight Zone, this play has the comedic punch that is knee slapping, belly laughing kind of humor. This two man and one woman performance is engaging from stage left to stage right. The triad of actors share a magical stage presence that when combined with good music, good whiskey and love list item #4 keeps audience members giggling till the very end. The Love List will inspire you to be curious about what you are passionate about, and be courageous in asking for it. This local performance, with three very dynamic and talented actors will get you to look at your “things I want in a mate” list with new perspective and feeling of fervor.

Real. Live.Theater. Harlequin is a non-profit, semi-professional company dedicated to new works, neglected works of distinction, and unconventional interpretations of classics. The acting is top quality. The sets are spectacular. The productions far exceed what you would expect from a small theater in a small town. The productions are staged in The State Theater, formerly an upscale movie house, renovated for live performances. You dont have to dress up and make a night of it, but it wouldnt be out of place. Absolute gem of an experience. And oh, the truffles, cookies, beverages at the concession bar!

I have gone to Harlequin shows for many years, and am continually surprised by the fresh material and professional productions! Even the "old" materials, such as the Shakespeare productions, are presented with a fresh twist (remember Rock & Roll Twelfth Night?). The touch of whimsy where least expected, and the willingness to explore controversial topics, are but a couple of the reasons that I am grateful to have this gem in Olympia!

The "Stardust Christmas Dazzle" was one of the best performances that Ive taken my family to in a very long time! Great singing, dancing, and acting on traditional songs that bring back the real feelings of Christmas and Patriotism. Well definitely return for more wholesome production. Please tell all of the cast and production members that they got some tears of joy from my family.
