Mixed feelings about this winery. The wines are good ones, especially the Cabernet Franc. Unlike many other vineyards, one has to purchase any snacks, such as little pretzels, to help cleanse the palate. There are positives and negatives about the restaurant. Of note are: The price is fixed at $38 per person. No discounts for kids or seniors. The focus is on presentation and on the chef, specifically the combination of flavors. It is not a restaurant for you if you are happiest with larger portions. The menu is somewhat fixed. There are 3-5 choices for each of three courses, but there are no substitutions whatsoever. I chose the crabcake as Course 1. The not what was expected. the crabcake, a small one. Usually, the crab in the cake takes center stage. At 868, the chef has decided that the spices in the cake are the main attraction. He might as well have put into it something other than crab. My second course was a 6 oz. filet mignon. I requested it be cooked medium. It was a little rarer than I expected, but it was very tender and quite tasty. My first option was the seafood - shrimp and crab, but it was explained that most of this choice was angel hair pasta with shrimp and a little crab, and all mixed with a rosemary cream sauce. No option for a pasta purest who would rather have the traditional tomato sauce instead. For dessert, I chose a chocolate torte. The portion was fine - average size - but it was perfect for such a super rich item. I got a to-go box for the part I could not finish. Overall, the experience was okay. My expectations were higher for the price and for the restricted menu. Wines are worth four stars. Restaurant is 2 stars.

Among Loudoun wineries 868 is a must visit. While on the far side of the county it is worth the drive for great wines and a beautiful farm to spend the afternoon. I went in for a tasting on a Saturday afternoon and was given the choice of a standard (wine only) tasting, a truffle tasting, which included four house made chocolates freshly made by the on-site full service restaurant, or an elevated tasting comprised of four food bites and two truffles. I had the elevated tasting, which included cheese and roasted vegetables, a mini grilled cheese and 868s amazing truffles. As far as wines, I had a Riesling--which I was pleasantly surprised by it being drier than most with a bit of effervescence, a Roussanne and a Viognier (my favorite) plus a Meritage and Monarch--both of Bordeaux style blends. What really made 868 stand out for me was the pourer, Tom, who was incredibly knowledgeable about their wines and wine in general and simply very attentive.

I could not be happier with this vineyard! My husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary over the weekend and ended up at 868 Estate Vineyards where they did the tastings with either truffles or food samples that were paired with the wines! I went weak at the knees with every tasting, which led us to become members of this vineyard! After the tastings, we had some lunch (yes, they have a restaurant next door) and they gave us four truffles on the house as an anniversary present! I am definitely coming back to see what new tastings they have and will enjoy every second of it! Out of all the wineries I have been to, this is my #1!

My wife and I went on a winery tour in the area to celebrate our anniversary and decided to stop by this Vineyard. We both got a tasting: one elevated and one chocolate truffle. WOW! The food, the chocolate, and of course, the wine, were fantastic! You can tell they make it a passion of theirs to make excellent wine and to pair it with excellent food and chocolate (thanks to the on-site restaurant). To make the trip extra special, the tasting room managers threw in some truffles along with our newly acquired membership to congratulate us on the anniversary. We cant wait to come back!

Love this place! Beautiful inside and out and right off of Harpers Ferry Road! We are wine club members and pick up 3 bottles every quarter - comes with a free tasting with each pick up. You can order pizza to go with your wine, and in summer they have a grill going outside. The adjacent Grandale Farm Restaurant is also fabulous - dressier than 868 and a sit-down meal (though still affordable, especially lunch) - and great to sit at the outside tables when the weather is nice. Perfect for an ex-Portland vegetarian foodie!

Went to 868 vineyards for the first time and it was great. 3 different options for tastings with pairings of truffles and small plates. Tom our wine tasting expert was excellent-explained the difference in the wines and allowed us to try the different year varieties of the same wines (that might not have been on the tasting menu...). Great wine, people and food. Will definitely be back and highly recommend.

Ben and the rest of the staff at 868 went above and beyond to make our 14-person bachelorette party wine tasting a fun and memorable experience! From helping us figure out a rain plan to assisting with the music/speakers to the knowledgeable overviews of all the wines, Ben was such a good sport and made sure we had an awesome time!! Would highly recommend 868 for group outings and will definitely be back!

Pretty neat winery to visit. Tastings are good. Very friendly staff who are very knowledgeable about their offerings and how to help you find something you will enjoy. This is the only winery we have been to in this winery strip, so until we get to others it gets a 4, but may upgrade to a 5. Really good experience. Food was good, but not quite as good as I expected for the price.

A nice place and friendly atmosphere their sweeter wines were good but the Chardonnay was rough. They have a $8 wine tasting with 7 dif wines and a $14 wine and chocolate truffle pairing. Id suggest splitting one truffle plate it was a lot of chocolate for one person. It was fun though better than some wineries not as good as some others. Falls in the middle.

The wine tasting was phenomenal - we got to sample 6 wines for just $8! I particularly enjoyed the Rosé and Meritage. We also sampled grapes that were straight from the vineyard. Tom at the bar was very friendly and has been to sommelier school, meaning that he has in-depth knowledge of all the different wines. Definitely check this place out!

Wonderful staff and wonderful wine! Being someone who loves red in the winter and white in the summer, I found I enjoyed both during the spring. Tom is the best! However, everyone I have come in contact with has been amazing. Great, comfortable place to enjoy your weekend!
