Played there Friday April 25, 2015. Called the pro shop three times to make a tee time, nobody picked up, kept getting answering machine. Made a tee time online and was required to pay in advance, $73.71. At the tee we were advised that there is no drinking water on the course, only at the turn. Why? We were stuck behind a foursome that took 1 hour and ten minutes to play the first four holes. There was no marshal on the course to help control pace of play. We finally had to skip #8 to get around them. Foursome in front of them graciously permitted us to play through and the course was wide open after that. The greens are fast and hard and the fairways are hard, some players like it this way. But many of these recently renovated greens have bad algae (or is it fungus?) and they had been spiked, sanded and tinted green. Seriously? The rest of the course is in very poor condition, lots of dead areas, the tee boxes are horrendous and the bermuda doesnt seem to be greening up at all. They are spending a lot of money on cleaning up the course and putting out pine straw under the trees, They took out some traps and put in a few new traps. They have new electric carts with GPS on them, but everyone has GPS rangefinders or a smartphone app that does the same thing, I dont see the point of having it on the cart. I do not see five million dollars worth of improvements. For $73 dollars it simply isnt worth it. You can play Brookwoods which is much better maintained and has great customer service for $34 on a Friday. #notimpressed

Had plans to play with a group that fell thru, so went to Independence. I pulled into the empty lot and went in to the pro shop. I asked if they could get me out, I could see there was no one on the tee box and only 2 guys on the range. He said we dont usually let singles go out. I said okay check and see if you have any tee times that arent a foursome. He said Ill make an exception and let you go out. I was just about ready to say never mind because of his attitude but paid my $60.00 dollars and went out. I wish I had left, the course was in horrible shape. No grass in the fairways, just mud and bare spots. I can see why the place was empty. I mean I understand its March but there shouldnt be bare spots everywhere and with the course in such horrible condition they should lower the rates. I wont be going back.

Customer service is non existent. Played 9 Wednesday afternoon and wasnt thrilled with the price considering the less than optimal conditions. Decided to give them another shot on a beautiful Friday evening we arrived at 5:33pm and requested a bag of range balls. I was informed that they stop selling range balls at 5:30pm seeing as I had driven 30 minutes to the club I pleaded with the clubhouse attendant expressing that we would "hit quick". We were told "uh I have too much work to do" Are you kidding me? My hitting of 50 range balls on an already occupied driving range is adding to your work load? Under no circumstances will I play or recommend this mediocre course to anymore.

Nice course with Great amenities! Added bonus: the best PGA instructor in the area resides here... Mahrty Lehr. Having tried a lesson from 5 or 6 different instructors in the Richmond area prior to finding Mahrty, i can tell you from experience no one else comes close to this guy. He greatly enhanced my level of play. Do yourself a favor and take a series of 5 lessons from him - the impact he will have on your game cannot be over-stated.

Very Disappointed! The course has potential to be nice, but the current conditions are terrible! The fairways are Bald!! Everywhere else in Va. the fairways are playing nice. Im not sure what they did to mess it up but they should close until they get it fixed.

I love this golf course. One of the best kept secrets in Richmond. 18 hole course as well as a 9 hole par 3. Super nice staff and that makes it very easy and fun to play golf. And for kids they have an outstanding kids golf camp in the summer.

The course is in the best shape of any course in the area. The condition of the greens cannot be matched. Have had many excellent experiences both on the course and in Tavern 19. Service is great and the food is excellent.

Really, really good. The greens are simply awesome. This is one of the best golf courses in central Virginia, public or private. The only downside is its expensive, (85 bucks), but you get what you pay for.

My two sons played there May 13th and had a wonderful golf day. The course was in great shape and the people and facilities were top notch. Will definitely recommend that you go....
