The course is in decent shape but on two separate occasions, I have had a bad experience with the starters on the first tee. These guys are city employees and they think they can talk to you however they want. There are a few good eggs such as the guys in the pro shop and the maintenance team. It just put a really bad taste in my mouth when my dad said, "we have a 12:54 tee time," and the guy told my dad that he didnt have anything for us ok "his list." Thing is, my dad HAD a receipt with our tee time listed on it and when he tried to show the starter his receipt, the starter rudely responded with, "I dont want to see your receipt." Really set me off. Guy was a jerk. Other than that, its a really fun course and for a muni, its quite challenging. Special recognition goes to Hunter in the pro shop for always being friendy to us.

I went to school at UNCW and played here at least once a week all four years. This is the only public Don Ross course in the country. Great rates and usually is in good shape considering the high traffic. Plays sandy if you miss a fairway. Not too many traps or water and every hole is a straight shot except for No. 3. The staff is great except for one guy who goes by "Cosmo" who works the pro-shop. This guy is a customer service nightmare and should not be allowed anywhere near the shop under any circumstance. If you ever have issues stay away from this guy as he will not have your best interest in mind. He will make even a simple task like redeeming a rain check an issue of unimaginable proportions.

Stay away! Played there today for 9 holes with my 9 year old son. It was more expensive than the much better courses in Wilmington area. They charged my son, which no other courses do. The course itself is the worst course I have played, and I have played a cow pasture style course before. The greens have to be designed for older guys that have to run the ball up. I hit every green with a high trajectory shot and the ball bounced sometimes 4 ft.high and off the green it goes. I will never play here again, even if I could play for free. Had to give one star to submit post, only good thing was hanging with my son that is 5 stars.

Course was well maintained, enjoyed the first 8 holes, paid for 9. I am a beginner who is aware that waiting around for someone to finish can be frustrating so I skipped a few greens as well as midway shots. On my last hole ( LAST HOLE) I was asked to speed things up. Mind you, the people behind us were still putting on the 8th. After telling him that rushing us was unnecessary he then began to argue with us and call us "smart". Very discouraging for a beginner golfer, especially when I was being mindful of those behind us. Overall, not a bad course, just really unfriendly employees and rangers. Will not be going back again.

I recently played at the Muni this past week and was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the golf course. Years ago I played many junior golf tournaments at the course and I played it over the years as I lived in Wilmington. Now the fairways and greens are so much better now than they have ever been after the renovation which included new bunker complexes and new bunkers around the course. The course has been stretched out a little bit as well which the longer golfers will enjoy. When I come back for a visit to Wilmington the Muni will certainly be an option for me to play. $35 to play during the week is also a deal.

This course was recommended by a friend as I was on vacation. Im Wednesday I stopped in to make tee time for the next day. When I arrived they didnt have my name written in but got me out anyway. They didnt tell me that the front 9 was closed. Then, as I was on the tee, the ranger pulled up with his radio blasting. Terribly disappointed with the service at this course.

This is a must play if you are in Wilmington. The course is a classic Donald Ross design, where you need to be good around the greens. I always play this course when I am in town. The pace of play maybe a bit slow but, the course is great. I am a big Ross fan and love his courses. Do yourself a favor and play this flat, very fun course.

Course is well maintained, challenging , a bit boring, but fun to play for the price. When you dont have time for a 5 hour round this is not the place to be given there are so many hackers that dont know protocol , to move the game along

Fairways in horrible shape. No rough, just sand and pine straw. While the greens were in decent shape, they are slow and inconsistent. Tee boxes in horrible shape. It looks good from afar but far from good!

I was not impressed by the course and the staff were very short and inconsiderate. I wouldnt call it warm or friendly, particularly the Marshall.

Great course with well-tended greens. A little on the expensive side for a city course but worth it.

Most affordable course in Wilmington proper. Usually in good shape despite a lot of play.

Great walking course with the wonderful touch of Donald Ross greens. A gem of a muni

Not many places lucky enough to have a Donald Ross course for a city course.

The poorest designed coarse around unless you like like flat and straight.

A real treat - green complexes that a top 100 course would be envious of
