My husband and I went here for a wine tasting after reading a review for another winery that recommended the wines here. Well not only did we find some wonderful wines the tasting itself was very informative and we were thrilled with how pleasant our experience was. We will definitely return here the next time we are in the area. Cant wait to see what the new owners do with this winery so far they are off to a great start! Maybe they will start serving simple (not gourmet or trendy) food! We would have loved to stay and have a bottle of wine but needed the food to go with it.

Best winery near Monticello. Friendly, courteous staff who did not have that air of snobbiness and pretense that you frequently find at many wineries. The staff member who presented the wines to us was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable about what he was pouring. I do not know a lot about wines, and I felt very comfortable asking basic questions without feeling judged, which isnt always the case at other wineries in the area. We also enjoyed sitting on the back deck, which overlooks a quiet forest and offers views of the mountains. Overall, a lovely experience.

Just a wonderful experience here from start to finish. The tasting room is very nice and there is plenty to walk around and look at. We got to wander the grounds and look at the vines. The open air and sky were just what we needed to start the day. The gentleman in the tasting room was very knowledgeable, friendly and interesting. The wines are good and the port is awesome. They also waive 2 tasting fees with a purchase of 3 bottles.

We stopped by the winery on a whim and were so glad we did. The tasting room is very cozy, and theres lots of outdoor seating. The staff was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and gave a lot of information about the wines. Of course, all that wouldnt matter if the wines werent any good, but they did not disappoint! Were red wine drinkers, and their reds are very tasty, but we found we loved many of their white wines too - definitely try some!

nice guy that pours the wine,very nice facility but their wine,oh my, Ive tasted wine like this. Aroma in this glass,putrid,then it gets worse ,it literally taste weak gasoline if you can imagine that. I dont recommend their product Michael shaps across the street from here very smooth taste and aroma,little pricy but very nice Sorry colony ,your wines just not getting for me.

First Colony is gorgeous! You take a really cool little dirt road through the vines to get to the winery. The tasting room is really nice and they have tons of outdoor seating. Their back deck is sort of in the woods so its more shaded and peaceful if you need to get out of the sun. They know what their doing. Highly recommend.

This is the best winery I have ever been to (and Ive been to a lot). We were so impressed with Heather and her staff that we decided to have our wedding there a couple of weeks ago, and it was the most perfect day ever. They are so knowledgeable, helpful and the wine is delicious! I would go there every weekend I was in town!

From the wine, to the staff and even the decor, it is apparent how much heart and soul is put in every aspect of the business. You will not regret spending an afternoon sipping on their delicious wine. As a bonus, the winery is dog friendly!

A must visit. Michael was so hospitable to our group of 9 when other Charlottesville vineyards were not. He was very knowledgeable and kept us laughing the whole wine tasting! The wines were amazing and we all left with different bottles of our favorites. We will be back every time we are in the area.

We visitied in the spring of 2010 as a day trip. We found several of the popular varietials very well done. The staff was very friendly and very knowlegeable - a fine interactive experience. There was nothing fancy about the tating room, but more than adequate for a great experience.
