We dont have the benefit of the ocean in Utah and neither of our big lakes is great for swimming in. Probably the best beach for swimming near the metro area is at Willard Bay (and yes, I know this is technically part of the Great Salt Lake, but its fresh water sectioned off by a causeway). All that being said, Manila Creek Park is a hidden gem. Its got a nice sandy beach, the water is clean and cool, and its a mere 45 min. from downtown SLC. Also, its free and open to the public. Its only detractions are that its very small and theres no provided shade (bring your own umbrella or canopy). Theres no showers or changing areas, just the toilet stalls in the restrooms.

This is a great place, as long as youre not expecting a traditional park. Instead, it is a pond that can be used for swimming or fishing, or you can take a nice walk around it. The locals call it "Manila Beach," and during the summer you can find people lounging on the sand next to the water, playing in the water, building sand castles, etc. - all the things you would do at a traditional beach. The park is very family friendly, and a great place to go to cool off in the summer, earn your fishing merit badge, or go for a Sunday afternoon stroll.

Our favorite place. I think we go here once a week to play in the sand and water. The water is roped off so the kids cant go too far. The city come through and cleans out the sand all the time. There are bathrooms and a wash off station. Lots of parking. Some shady trees but not a lot. Picnic tables. Handicap accessible. Ducks to feed.

A great place to relax, swim, and have lunch. Beach is fairly good, and there is a big area for swimming and the rest for fishing. Only complaint is the bathroom stall locks dont work on most, and will swing open if you dont hold it closed.

We love taking the paddle boards out. The sand is not soft but its doable. Usually less crowded than some reservoirs but Ive seen it on a busy day and its still okay. There is clay in the sand which the kids like to look for.

Good place to take kids to fish for stocked rainbow trout and bluegills. Good exercise trail with benches and picnic tables near restrooms. Good swimming/play area for kids, in season. No lifeguard.

Fun little place. Has an area for swimming and a place for fishing. Nobody seems to care about the big net separating the two areas though. Its small so it can get crowded pretty fast.

Beautiful area, lots of fun for kids. But there is too much construction going on next door and it blows dirt all over us when were sitting by the water. Theres also very little shade.
