After playing a lot of golf in North Texas the Old American has quickly become my favorite. The course is challenging with water or tall native grass lining most holes as well as all of the waste bunkers strategically placed in landing areas. These are definitely hazards as they arent the fluffy sand youre used to at most courses. The good news is that the local rule allows players to ground the club in all bunkers. If youre expecting white sand from Kailua-Kona, HI then the bunkers will disappoint, but Im here to tell you, dont let it. The layout is beautiful with most all holes after #3 having a view of Lake Lewisville. Often I dont feel like Im in TX but rather on vacation at a coastal Florida or California course. The GPS on the cart is great and first time players will definitely find the flyover video descriptions helpful as you pull up to each tee box. Water is provided in a cooler on the cart and the two large snack stations along the course offering snacks, crackers, soda, gatorade, and water. The clubhouse, while small, is very nice with a great restaurant and bar. I cant say enough good things about their food. The meatloaf sandwich is my favorite and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Id recommend the course to anyone and when friends and family come in town to visit I make sure we play it. Theyve never been disappointed.

I just played on 7-21-2017. This course is nice. I read the reviews, read up on the course, and asked a few friends about the course. Most of the reviews are bogus in my opinion. Maybe when the course was flooded it had some issues but today it was perfect. The course can be difficult especially if you have never played there before. Fairways are about the same as other courses but not much rough. Rough is high ball hiding grass, however, This is not any where near a target golf course. The greens were in great shape. The pin placement is a Sunday pin placement but they rolled very well. A lot of reviews talk negatively about the bunkers. I only hit one but they all looked great. And so what if there is a bunker in the middle of the fairway. You can see it on the monitor and Id rather have it there than the middle of the green. My opinion if you can average under 95 on most courses this one is well worth what ever price they want to charge. To be fair to the bogus reviews they are correct about the layout. You are never near the clubhouse. So pack a lunch and bring water. It also only took 3:45 to play. I am glad I had people familiar with this course as a first timer but I will be back many times.

I just wrote a lengthy review totally ripping this golf course, and it was cut off, so, Im trying again. The published descriptions of this golf course are very misleading- it is a Scottish course design, not classic American. There are no bunkers- only rock- hard waste areas. You cannot see what the hole looks like from the tee areas because of the abundance of waste areas and the rolling terrain. There are no directional signs and no hole descriptions, except for the GPS in the cart. One cart s GPS did not work, and ours volume was too low to hear. the $125 green fee should be $25- this is not a fun course to play. Hidden bunkers in the middle of the fairway and landing areas only add to the frustration. None of my three playing companions will ever go back. Worst mistake ever for me, second only to the Eisenhower course in City of Industry, CA. They need to re- do their course description in a big, big way. My playing companions were a very low handicapper, and two low teens handicappers. They hated it as much as I did. Good luck if you play this one.

What a disappointment. Read reviews, checked the website, drove an hour, paid $75... 1) Terrible condition. Fairways need lots of top-dressing. Will likely be 2-3 yrs before they are decent.I suspect money is an issue. 2) The design concept was OK but poorly executed. Far too many bunkers that cant be seen. e.g. 13 would be a good hole if you could see the bunkers off the tee. As it is it just looks messy 3) Justin - why put bunkers in the middle of the fairway at 280 off the tee when there are no avenues left/right to hit? e.g. the 15th. Stupid. 4) Texas clay cart paths that are loud to walk and drive on 5) Practice fairway about a mile from the club house 6) Neither 9 nor 18 finish anywhere near the clubhouse. Again - stupid, particularly if you like walking 7) Charging $125 regular green fee is ridiculous. I wouldnt pay more than 30 based on other courses in Dallas. This place will struggle to survive unless it invests some money in conditioning

Heard good things about the course so decided to play. Paid $150 and didnt feel it was worth it. Ive played many, many other courses in the DFW area and this one does not warrant over double the price. I will say the people were nice but I would rather have spent my money on Grapevine, Waterchase or even Twin Creeks. The greens were in good condition, the fairways were average at best. The course can be challenging for a first timer. My carts GPS yardage was not accurate. I just cannot wrap my head around why they charge so much for such an average course. There was nothing outstanding about the layout. Im a mid handicapper and found some of the holes very challenging, bordering on ridiculous and the only way to scope the hole out is with the carts GPS. If youve got the money to burn, go for it, but dont expect anything to write home about. Ill give it three stars only because the staff was excellent but I wont be going back. Once was enough.

Considering the amount of water the DFW area has received recently, the course is in absolutely phenomenal shape. Greens, fairways and tee-boxes are spectacular. This is a course that you will never get bored playing....nice range of tees that will provide even the best players a challenge at more than 7100 yards.....great classic layout/design where you will never hit the same shot twice no matter how often you play it......a true "golf club" where the shining star is the actual course, especially if you are a golf purist. IMO, OAGC is worth every penny I spend there as a proud member since 2010 (even at the public rate of $125-$150). Thanks to all of the staff for the great service. Special thanks and recognition to Mike McCabe (GM) for the fantastic job leading the charge.

Paid 108.00 on Friday after 1 pm. I was excited because I heard great things about the course. If you pay $100 dollars for a course in DFW, you should receive quality. Layout - they need to rework the layout, impossible to walk. 9 and 18 does not finish by the clubhouse. They tried to hard to incorporate the lake into every hole. Im ok with sand bunkers but at least have quality sand in the traps. Condition - for a $100 dollars worth, get your S#*+ together - enough said Theme - I get the "old american" theme but they failed miseraberly with the "old" vintage retro theme. If you want people to pay 100 dollars a round, please dump money back into the course rather than treating this like another lake course. Worst golf experience Ive had in 5 years. Thanks
