This venue is probably the worst Ive been to in San Antonio, for its fairly big size. The sound quality is fine for lighter bands, but if youre a metal band steer clear. Its almost impossible to distinguish any of the instruments or even hear the vocals that well when heavy bands perform here. I can only assume cheap audio equipment is to blame. In addition to that glaring flaw, I cant stand the pillars that jut out in the middle of the venue, blocking the stage for a huge portion of the crowd. Pillars are fine in venues like Trees in Dallas where theyre part of the decor and dont get in the way nearly as much, but here theyre inexcusable. On top of everything else, finding parking for the venue can be way too expensive if you use the lots across the street and to the sides of the building, and every lot available is of the makeshift gravel variety, so there are no designated spots aside from the ones the lot workers tell you to fill, depending on demand for the lot. Ill take any other venues parking meter lots or, even better, Paper Tigers free parking, any day. Most importantly, the place just isnt any fun. The interior is very drab and the way everything is set up structurally just doesnt work well (e.g. the bar line constantly cutting into the audience because where else can the patrons go?). Overall, I really wouldnt recommend Alamo City Music Hall. Its over expensive and not worth the price of admission once youre there. Only see a band here if A. You want to try the place out, or B. If you really love the whos playing and arent willing to drive out of SA to see them elsewhere.

I went to the All Stars Tour that took place on 7-23-11 with high expectations of this venue after hearing about some of the great acts that have played there before only to be extremely disappointed. First off the heat was unbearable but that is a given with summers in South Texas and is not the venues fault at all. The place was set up for an outside stage as well as bands performing inside simultaneously. The foot traffic was ridiculous try to move from inside to outside to see the different bands perform with only one single entry way in and and out of the club. Beer was $5.00 and bottled water was $4.00 which is kind of expected nowadays with music festivals. The main reason I disliked my experience at Backstage Live was because they cut off all the water to the sinks in the bathrooms because people were filling up their empty bottles. I was told later on that they were forced to turned the water back on because the health department was called. When a place does something like that to people that are standing out in over 100 degree weather and cant even wet their face or wash their hands it makes me furious. I will not be going back to Backstage Live again. Ive been to dozens of venues and this was by far the worst experience.

what kind of place doesnt start selling water until over an hour after letting people in the doors? staff walking around eating and drinking while several people and myself stand around the bar looking stupid, waiting to buy a bottle of water. not knowing when they will open, and no one was even acknowledged, just ignored. and when my little brother and i finally buy soda and water, after waiting for the bartender to finish his conversation with another staff about the party he went to last night, our soda is contaminated with unknown black flakes. this place feels inhumane and i have never had such a miserable experience anywhere in my life. the show is not on schedule and seems like time stood still. such a long boring process and i will never even consider coming back here again. i hope someone whose in charge reads this and does something to make it better for others. i feel disgusting after being here.

The worse concert venue Id ever been to! No air conditioner, no air movement and no place to sit while you pass out from EXTREME HEAT EXHAUSTION! This place has room for improvement and must spend time on keeping their customers like myself happy to be able to return and actually spend money on drinks. Saw more than a dozen young girls pass out and removed from the floor which concerned me because their age group was 12-22 year olds that possibly were dropped off by parents most likely. The icing on the cake for me was when the main artist was most concerned for her fans safety and disrupting her act to call attention for security to pull the fans out of the crowd as they passed out. Last nights solution for the staff was to throw bottle water into the crowd for the Kehlani concert. Shame you management for risking everyones well being at your venue.

Went to see August Burns Red and Everytime I Die when they toured with Wage War, Stick to Your Guns, and Polyphia. I liked it but the sound system sucked, too much bass and i couldnt hear any of the bands. It sounded like graggled mess whever the band singer sang. I think the only reason for the bass was for the floor to vibrate which was cool. Place was a mosh pit in the center which i avoided as i watched from the back. Even in the back i saw a people hardcore dancing and almost got hit. Place had huge fans on the ceiling but it was still kinda humid even for a concert in December. I liked Wage War who opened for the night even though the set was 5 songs. Was blown away by them. Stick to Your Guns were awesome even Everytime I Die were awesome. August Burns Red were awesome as the headliners, never seen them live.

This place is just waiting to be shut down. Keep in mind this is a place that supposedly holds 1500 people. Theres pretty much 1 exit, and that s the way you come in. What if a fire happens on stage? Also, only 1 AC tube running down the middle. I wouldnt doubt if the center of the pit hits 110 degrees. Someone is bound to dehydrate and pass out (if they havent already). The restrooms are in the worst place. You have to fight the crowd to get to them. Water should be free, but the a-hole bartenders look at you dirty when you ask for water in a cup. This new remodel they did is plain horrible. Ive got half a mind to call osha or whomever needs to be called. Its a tragedy waiting to happen

Ive been here a few times and probably will continue to do so as they host the bands I like, but this place is awful. My biggest complaint, which was mentioned by other reviewers is that they refuse to give you tap water. So the only means of hydration in a 100+ degree room is a $3 bottle of water. Is this Woodstock 99? The girl next to me in the crowd actually did pass out, likely due to heatstroke and lack of water. Fill a cooler with a hose and stop letting underage kids who cant afford a $3 bottle of water pass out in your venue. Also, as mentioned, the sound is terrible.

I am leaving a review for the August burns red/ In hearts wake. The place was not that big it is in better shape then the rabbit. During two band performance and noting they also got pissed and told them theyre sound techs sucked" waited for them to fix it since it was cutting off during the performance and the lighting as well. One band in particular was upset and actually said he wouldnt play there again after the frustration. People were also smoking marijuana but no one searched for them. In hearts wake and August burns red delivered and made the money spent worth it.
