Theyre much better than DNA (Dallas North) and Fish n Chirps, in Denton. I wait until I make a drive into Dallas to buy my fish, food and equipment there. Their food is cheaper than any place Ive been. Its not cheap but its cheaper. For instance, my fish food would costs about $20 at DNA, $18 at Fish n Chirps (if they have it in stock) and $14 at Aquatic Design. Aquatic Design has the best Holey Rock selection in the Dallas area. They have a lot of slate and other rocks whereas DNA has close to nothing. The last time I checked the rock was about $1.00-$1.50 per pound. The supplier doesnt come around on a regular basis so you may want to call them and ask if theyve just had some delivered or if theyre expecting a delivery soon. (Its hard to get them to say if their stock is low.) Its out back and can be a few feet high. Other stores only stock what will fit on a shelf so you van hardly find larger sized pieces. I found pieces that are at least 2-3 feet. As far as customer service goes, Ive found that it depends on the day and if theres a big spender in the store, like somebody that theyve installed a set up for, theyll all be taking care of them first. The staff has 1 or 2 guys with large egos. The rest of the guys are generally very nice and helpful. Overall, I have to say that theyre the best place to shop in Dallas but I havent been to any stores east of Plano. Fish N Chirps is moving there store right now. Maybe after theyre finished, theyll have more stock. Fish N Chirps is a pretty good place but the store was too small before. They have friendly staff. Ive never haggled at any store if the prices are marked. When I need to sell my fish, Aquatic Designs gives you a generous store credit. But again, it depends on who youre talking to. If it makes a difference, Ive only had Cichlids. I cant say anything about salt water fish or equipment. Aquatic Designs has a decent amount of tanks too. Best wishes fish fans!

My experience with Aquatic Design started off great. It did get a little rocky because of some communication issues, but by the end they totally redeemed themselves. Larry, Lj , and Wyatt made the trip to my house to do the install in some what unfavorable conditions. Unlucky for them mother nature decided it needed to rain heavily for several hours and also the electricity went out for awhile also. Thru it all they kept working to get everything setup. They where very respectful of my property trying to get everything completely dried off before bringing pieces in the house. Thru it all they were able to complete the setup and make sure that I understood all of the equipment. I cant express how happy I am with my new tank and the end result of the service that I have received from Larry and his team.

I had a very good experience with this place and found each staff member that I encountered to be very helpful. The store manager spent nearly an hour with me, patiently explaining the nitrogen cycle of a fish tank and he even gave me a demonstration on how to vacuum the substrate. (I already have a tank and was inquiring as to how to properly cycle it, so his patience was not just to make a big sale.) When I went back in a couple of days later, there was another gentleman there, who was also very helpful. They are low key and not pushy at all. While no one ever ran up to greet me and I was never bombarded with people asking if I needed assistance, all I had to do was ask, or in one case look like I needed help, and I was helped immediately.

We have had tanks for 25 years and lived nearby (Plano) for about three years. We had a 100 gallon show reef tank and 72 gallon bowfront freshwater tank, and were able to get just about everything we needed to stock and maintain both. having had tanks for a couple decodes, we easily talk-the-talk with store owners and supplier. We are not newbies to the hobby, and usually go to such stores with a list in hand and any questions that we might need expert help with. For us, that makes conversation with staff fairly easy -- we control it. Have not experienced the communications challenges that others mentioned. Good store. Nice ideas. Good inventory. Knowledgeable staff.

its an alright shop, but its mostly for the reef people and not the freshwater people, tray, ryan, and AL are the ones to talk too. the prices are good, but service is bad, and some of the employees only want to make a sale... they told me "oh yes you need 12,000k for plants, when I know I needed 6,700-10,000k and by the way im in a local aquatic plant club, I just told them okay thanks I will think about it and walked out of the store, Ive even been told I can pee in my tank to start the nitrogen cycle, who in there right mind would pee in there tank? if you need dry goods, salt water fish,or corals its a good place, but be can be a hit and a miss.

We spend a lot of money at this place. Our fish food alone is $40 a month. Just went in to pick up a part that retails around $8. The guy at the register rang us up for $20. I got to the car and realized he just charged $20 and typed in "dry good." Went back into the store after being in my car for about 1 min to take it back in to let him know we didnt feel comfortable paying $20 for an $8 part and asked for a refund. They refused to refund the green cash I just gave him. The transaction took place 2 minutes ago and I cant get a refund? They just lost a long time customer.

Went into the store with my boyfriend yesterday looking for some new food and some advice on fish we had acquired elswhere. We were greeted immediately, browsed around, and got help right when we asked for it. The staff was extremely friendly and eager to help, going out of their way to ensure we got what we needed. They have a good supply of fish and definitely have some that I havent seen in other stores. Four stars because I havent actually bought any fish from them yet, but I will definitely be returning in the future.

After entering initally no one greeted me, but thats because they just recived a bunch of fish and were helping other customers. no big deal to be honest. good selection of freshwater and saltwater fish, plants, and corals as well as several tubs of rocks to sift through. a small selection of drift wood as well. pricing was for products was fair. as a note they need a permanent wet floor sign. lol

I went in for some specific fish, which they did not have. After telling me they did not have the fish, the wonderful staff ordered then for me, and called me when they arrived for me to come look at them. They held the fish for me, and let me pick the ones I wanted before making the ones I didnt want available for anyone else to buy. If you need fish, go nowhere else. Great prices.
