This is a great theater for children 4-7. My daughter is 3 and enjoys it, but she is not allowed to sit on the floor in the front of the theater which is where the fun is. I like how they modify the classics and remove the scary material to make it humorous and positive. The productions are lower budget so dont go in expecting fancy costumes and props. The actors could improve their singing skills. However, Ive been pleasantly surprised at times with some productions where they invested a bit more. It is a bit of gamble in that respect, some say. They encourage the children to be quiet but you dont have to really worry about interrupting or making anyone uncomfortable. A parent can just relax and laugh- that is priceless.

My little guys (2 & 4) we went to the performance with Mother Falcon at Scottish Rite this afternoon and it was fabulous. Although Austin has such great live music, its not always accessible to kids and whats offered for kids (both live and otherwise) is often lackluster. The level of musicianship was impressive and the setting was perfect for kids -- room to move and dance, seats for the parents, big enough but not so large youd loose your little ones. The new artistic director seems to be working on great things at Scottish Rite and were so excited to see what she has planned.

This is a charming old theater with plenty of parking in the lot and nearby. A word to the wise though - the parking meters on adjacent streets only accept change! My family and I brought my nephews here to see Puff the Magic Dragon, and we all had a great time. The play was about an hour long - which was a perfect length for the children. It kept their attention the whole time, and at the end the actors were available for photos and autographs. It was very well organized and a fun family experience.

Rather interesting setting to see The Whitest Kids U Know, never expected to see one of the best sketch groups of our time in a Freemasons Theater. The place kind of felt haunted, with old portraits on the wall of people in fez caps, swords in display cases, old furniture, and the theater it self was on old hard wood floor and rickety seats. The show was great, but still felt like sitting in the haunted mansion while we waited for the show to start.

This is one of the finest places in Austin to see theater for youth. So many of the productions are adaptations of literary favorites that you wont see anywhere else because they are exclusive to the Scottish Rite Theater. But childrens theater is only one part of the story. Theres an annual Shakespeare production, a winter holiday show, and other theater and concerts throughout the year. Check it out!

I loved this place. I recently saw WinoVino play here along with the Austin Steamers and I really enjoyed the acoustics, ambiance, and the decor. This place is such a hidden gem! I recommend getting a schedule of their events and getting in to see a show that interests you. The theater is so unique!

This is the perfect theater to take kids. They can sit on a rug, up close. Shows are entertaining, not too long. They always have a coloring program they can have, and the actors are available for autographs, afterwards. Its priced very reasonable. The summer camps are also fantastic!

The smell inside is very bad I guess is the carpet or because the building is a older building! The show is very good for kids and family that like live show! They also have class that is a little too high price in my opinion! 500$ for 4 class is clazy!

Former Masonic Lodge, complete with leather chairs and paintings of the big shots on there walls. Theater appears built for purpose and is intimate but sort of has the feel of a school cafe. Still, good venue to be close to the action.

My family and I enjoyed a lot here about the show called "Amber & Nick Radio Hour" there. My kid (4 yr) sang along and danced along with the performance.
