Our family spent 8 hours there touring it all: Clamagore, Laffy, Yorktown, Aircrafts, Medal of Honor, and Vietnam Experience. So much to read since we did the self guided tour. Definitely need to be able to get into small spaces, do steep and narrow steps. I would definitely bring water and snacks because the snack bar is OVER PRICED. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes as you will be on your feet the entire time. And with the small steps, rubber soled shoes are recommended. For our family of 5 - 2 adults, 14 yr old, 11 yr old and 9 yr old it was $75. We saved $9 as we found $3 off coupons for each adult - and we had 3 since 12 yrs and older are adult prices. Parking is $5, which I dont get since where else would you park!?! Of course, like most touristy places, they take your picture on a blue board before boarding the Yorktown in hopes that you will by their overpriced, super imposed Yorktown background family picture for $30. We passed! There is also a NAVY flight simulator, which of course, the kids begged to do. That was $5 per person and lasted 5 mins. NOT WORTH IT. It had nothing NAVY about it! It was more like an IMAX experience. You would think it would have at least been something to do with the military or a fighting experience but it was more like being in a dessert in some game type experience. And found out its not part of the Yorktown but a vendor making money off the Yorktown visitors. Nothing goes back to the Yorktown. If you never have been on an aircraft carrier, submarine or a defender ship, definitely worth seeing. Just be sure to plan on spending most of the day to not only get the experience but also your monies worth. And I can honestly say, we did NOT even read everything! Although kids of any age can tour all these things, I would say that if your kids cant walk or need a stroller, would not be a family thing to do. I would recommend kids being at least 3rd grade and up because they will remember and be able to understand it much better. Lastly, we went in Jan and it was about 50* and partly cloudy day. Being its in the water, it was rather cool and down inside the vessels, its even colder. We all had on jackets, some of us had gloves and scarfs. So, plan your dress accordingly. Enjoy your trip!

What an amazing time my children the Yorktown is an incredible floating Museum. There are many opportunities for you to walk the decks and see what it was like on a War II carrier. This carrier is laid out for all types of folks. It does have the ability for wheelchair accessibility. But there will be areas that you will need to be able to climb ladders and get through small passageways. But anyones enjoy almost all the major areas to see the ship such as the anger areas and there isnt elevator to the flight deck and into some of the other major areas of the ship. My kids had a great time and it is fun to see. There is also a destroyer next door it is much smaller it is not wheelchair accessible and its a lot smaller and a lot tighter and you will be doing a lot more climbing but it does have a interactive combat interaction that is well worth seeing and it is a lot of fun. There is a submarine also here but it is going away shortly I hear it to be towed away to a reef and by the time that I had already claimed the carrier and climbed around on the Destroyer I just could not make it to the sub that day. Youll be easily spending four to five hours here.

Only good thong abput thisvis the view of Arthur Jr.Bridge. My husband and I were supper excited to go in this ship. He been to USS north Carolina in Wilmington and thought this one had to be be better if not the same color factor. No. Lame. This boat is HUGE but you only see 1/16th of what it has to offer. You walk into rooms and it dont tell you what the rooms are used for. They just have paper of ww2 on the wall to read. I wanted to learn about the history of the boat itself not the ww2 history through the world. While you can go on the flight dead (thats cool) it pays tribute to the planes. Then in the main part you walk into its like a mini airplane museum (kinda cool). The medal of honor museum had nothing recent of the men that earned the title, besides 1 2014 army recipient. Youre able to go see the sub marine (thats decent but very tight quarters). The Vietnam memorial was really lame and they said it was redone. I wouldnt have wasted $34.(military) if i had known about the this.

Not for people that have no appreciation for WW2 military history. That being said....... not for the women folk. It is a PLAYGROUND for war buffs!! You get to touch everything! Turn dials, push buttons, not to mention you get TO SIT in the captains CHAIR!!!!! The destroyer is pretty amazing as well, although the carrier dwarfs it in size, it is still a large vessel. Another playground for you! The submarine is very interesting! Although from the outward appearance, it looks abit shabby, and some work is going on there, it is really neat actually being inside a diesel submarine. They havent cut the bulkheads to create an easy walkway, so you get to climb through the sub just like her crew members did...........but, you dont walk through them, you JUMP through them!!!!!~ the only negative comment I have about the whole park, was you cannot operate the subs periscope.

I like how they give you 5 touring options and clear signage for each tour. The desk with the folks helping you choose what to do is also helpful. The ship can be hot and stuffy, but they do have several fans set up to help with that. If you take the tours you get a very good sense of what life was like on the boat. The chocolate chip cookie recipe is definitely a highlight as well. To me the best part was the flight deck with various planes on display. The bow is a great place to take a photo as well. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a deeper appreciation of what the sailors of the Greatest Generation went through to defeat Japan. Pair this tour with a viewing of the movie "Midway."

Our Boy Scout troop spent two nights on-board the USS Yorktown during the summer and it was remarkably hot throughout the day. The sleeping quarters were kept nice and cool. Even with 3 days and two nights, no one person took in all the sights in this fantastic location. The food provided as part of the whole package was not bad, but could have been better. If visiting during the summer, the ships get *very* hot, so be sure to bring a water bottle - it can be refilled at water fountains on the hangar deck. There are some vending machines scattered around, a snack bar and a restaurant on the ship, but that can all get a bit pricey.
