I scheduled a tee time at Charleston National Golf Course weeks in advance. Myself and 5 other friends (2 of which drove 14 hours from Michigan) arrived early & met our tee time of 8:45 & 9:15 am. The gentleman checking us in said it would not be a problem for the 6 of us to play together, as long as we didnt hold up other golfers. My friends and I decided to play 18 holes of "best ball" to insure no delays. We started as expected with everybody having a great time & enjoying the facility. On the 3rd hole we were warned to disband and break into 2 groups (no one was behind us, or in front of us). We followed the directions, though we had been told something else earlier. My big complaint followed: we were harassed 3 more times by different staff members after we had separated! To top it off, we were playing so fast that we kept having to slow down for the single gentleman playing in front of us. I was embarrassed for my friends from Michigan & my local pals from Charleston, SC. We finished the 18 holes 45 minutes early. Im a casual golfer enjoying the beautiful courses in the lowcountry. I expected more from Charleston National. Being a very easy going person, this is the first poor review Ive ever written. With the planning involved bringing 6 guys together (hotels, evening fun, golf) Charleston National Staff ruined our weekend.

Played a few times and the pin placements are ridiculous. The pros would complain when every hole has the pin one foot from the edge. This is a public course, not Sunday at US open. Not fun to play those pins. Put pins near middle of the green and I would give it a 5. I can see where pins have been in past by circle made and there are no circles on any holes near the middle. Therefore stupid pins must always be that way .Look at the pin placement on the picture they provide with the boats in the background. You are hitting from the left of the green so the pin is on the left.. Its about one foot from the edge with all that green empty. If you hit it in the middle of the green you may 3 putt. If you go for the pin you will wind up off the green with no green to work with to come back. All 18 holes are that way. The courses own picture is worth a thousand words. You will never have a birdie putt. Get rid of the greens keeper for I am sure he thinks this is cute.

My son lives right across the street from Charleston National and plays there frequently. I live on Long Island, NY and when I visit, we play Charleston National at least once along with 3 other courses. Im retired, play 50 rounds per year, and work as a Ranger on my home course. So.......I know golf! A golf course is not the place to have a bachelor party. The participants are usually not golfers and have no understanding of golf etiquette, usually damage the course and the carts, abuse the employees of the course, and are an injury risk to other players on the course. Rangers are responsible for pace of play, out of position, ready golf, wave up, restricted areas, and safety among other responsibilities. Charleston National is a nice course, the people that work there are friendly, and if you are a golfer and understand how to work around a course, you wont even know that a Ranger is on duty.

This is a golf course for unexcelled beauty. You play on some fantastic turf, around some breathtaking marsh and other natural scenes. We came over here because my wife took lessons, and their coaching staff is really great with the women. Their philosophy must be that if you get the gals over, the men will follow. The prices are reduced for womens classes, and Wednesdays they have a special deal for those who took the class. We are beginners, but all types play here. You will see deer (we saw nursing fawn and mom) as well as egrets, heron, hawks, etc. Plus it is much cooler -- its closer to the ocean than other area courses, so the breeze is there. I could not believe how cool our 6 pm tee-time was compared to where we live - West Ashley.

My son lives in Mt. Pleasant and when my wife and I visit we try to play a round of golf. Charleston National is my favorite course in the Charleston area. It has always been in great shape when Ive played it....nice fairways, kept wide enough for amateurs to keep things moving and very good greens. And, it has an excellent practice facility. I have always found the staff to be professional and friendly. All in all I would say playing Charleston National is an outstanding overall experience and a beautiful one, too. You get a special appreciation of the low country because of the wonderful marsh views. It is definitely worth the "price of admission" to me and I look forward to my next visit....and so does my wife!

The best practice area in the Charleston vicinity. Wonderful staff in the pro shop as well as positive and attentive cart personnel and bar/restaurant employees. The golf course is challenging with water, marsh, and bunkers, and the greens are in good condition. The only thing that keeps my rating from 5 stars is the concentration of play from Friday to Sunday. In efforts to optimize income, the management team schedules tee times at 5 minute increments, which slows down play. They also allow 5some and 6somes for out of town golfers. Most other courses break them into multiple groups with 15 minute tee time gaps.

If you are visiting from out of town, you MUST play Charleston National. If you are local, make sure you get several round in here throughout the year. This is “Lowcountry Golf”. The course showcases the marsh and low areas beautifully. Greens always putt great. Also its what I call a shot makers course. Dont get fooled by the short holes, they will bite you. Great clubhouse. I probably have over a hundred round in here. I am still kicking myself for not playing it before Hurricane Hugo wiped out the first design.

We came with a group of 10 golfers and as soon as we got to the course we were pretty much hassled the whole time. 2 of our 3 groups were told we had to skip a hole, which we were not allowed to makeup on the back 9. This happened after we were started late and pretty much escorted by the course ranger through 3 holes. The course is nice, but since were in Charleston, there are 900 other courses Id rather play at than this dump.

We play here every summer when we come to Isle of Palms for our annual vacation. Always friendly staff, course is fun and challenging for us once a year golfers. Just dont play after they airate the greens. They have a pro shop, club rentals, a bar/grill and water coolers spaced out on the course.

Greens played well. The course will challenge all parts of your game! staff was Friendly and the bev cart was always around. I had to apply one of my yankee rules, "rake and replace" only because the bunkers werent dry. I really enjoyed myself and the scenery!
