We played at 9:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning and had the course virtually to ourselves. The scenery is gorgeous and the holes are sculpted into the hills very nicely. Greens were in great shape with challenging pin placement. To say my friends and I are hackers would be an understatement, but we were still able to keep the majority of our drives in play, despite the tightness of some of the fairways. Standout holes include #5 with a choice of two greens, one up a steep slope and the other over water.
Called to make a tee time and was told if you get here by 4:30 I can get you out no problem. When I arrived I had to wait in line at the counter for 20 minutes. When I finally got up to the counter I was told I would have to wait until 5:30 then I could go out behind a group of 7 that had a 5:15 tee time. I wont make the mistake of wasting my time here again.
Hanging Rock is my local club. Ive played most of the other courses in the Roanoke Valley and prefer The Rock over the others. The staff is great to deal with, and the course is well maintained. The Greens are very challenging, but fair. I would like to see more consistency in the types of sand in the traps. Overall, its a great place to play!
The Rock is great! Pricing is reasonable and relative to the condition of the course. With some tight fairways and plenty of beautiful scenery, its always a good time. The staff is also all great. Very friendly people who remember the regulars and always show respect. Highly recommended, from someone who plays 5-8 times a month.

This course can be quite good depending on how firm the greens are. When they are rock hard, those of you who dont like firm greens should avoid it. Very interesting holes, with plenty of trouble. I like the back a bit more than the front. But the 3rd, 5th (if you play the green near the pond), 7th and 9th are very good holes.
My husband and I were looking for a course to play on as we were passing thru. We were very pleased with this choice. Everyone on staff that we encountered was friendly and helpful. The course was in very nice condition with nice elevation changes and views. We would play here again and recommend.
One of the best courses in the Roanoke Valley. Nestled in the foothills north of Salem, Va, Hanging Rock offers many elevation changes, water hazard, and large, challenging well kept greens. Moderately priced for a great day of golf.
My local club and fun to play.......stay straight....the trees like to collect golf balls. Well managed and always looks good.
Great course, nice format, rates outstanding and staff going out of there way to make you feel welcome.

I enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the topography of the field. I really relax when golfing here.
Great tract. Challenging, beautiful layout. Bunkers need work.
