My husband and I had been coming here for over 15 years, both when we lived in Newport and after we moved to wickford. It was one of our favorite saturday nite spots, as well as newyears ,st pattys day and whenever we had out of town guests. We had not been here for the last couple of months, but when our out of town guests visited last weekend we made a reservation in the bar, so they could experience the ambience , food , drinks and piano . While our favorite bartender brian was there and Dave Manuel can fill any room with joy, my husband and I were shocked by the changes that were made. Gone were all the delightful wall adornments that gave it character. Also gone was the wonderful extensive menu choices. Even the drink glasses had changed, looked like sorbet glasses, awkward and smaller. And also gone were the customers, all the regulars that would pack the place on a friday or Saturday night. We neednt have bothered with a reservation. There were only 2 other tables with diners, and no one at the bar. I know there was an ownership change, but we had been told that it wouldnt change all the things we loved about crowleys pub. I feel like I have lost a dear friend. In fact many friends since it never failed that we ran into other regulars or made friends with someone new every time we went there. New owners, the only reason I even gave u 2 stars is because brian and dave are still there. I hope u will wake up before there is no chance for you to recover from what you have done to this once gem of a restaurant. Shame on you.

I have been going to La Forge for years and have never been dissapointed until this weekend. We noticed that the menu had changed and inquired with our waitress, who told the restaurant had recently changed hands and has new owners. That was a warning flag for us, but we ordered dinner anyway. Most of us had the seared scallops...which was delicious...however that was it. 8 medium to smaller scallops with a sauce and some shavings of califlower. No salads or sides came with it. I would have been better off getting a burger because I was starving when I left and so was my wallet. Dinner was $50 each. No value here folks so keep looking as Newport is full with great restaurants that will give you a solid meal for your hard earned dollar...like Sardellas!

Over the past several years,I have frequently eaten at LaForge. The food, whether brunch, lunch,or dinner ,was always excellent, with prompt service. Yesterday I went to La Forge for lunch. It will be my last visit there! The restaurant was understaffed for a busy Saturday, and the food was terrible. My medium rare burger was served well done, with overdone bacon and it appeared that the burger had been steamed. Additionally, prices have increased and portions have decreased. I am disappointed to see an outstanding restaurant that has been a Newport legend become a less than one star establishment.

We just got back from having a wonderful meal and both of us are stuffed! The clam chowder and clams casino were great. The fish and chips were lightly fried, the cod flaky and moist and I have to agree, the fries were AWESOME! The other meal we had was the scampi with clams and shrimp. Very generous portions and delicious. To finish off, the Irish Bread Pudding with Caramel Rum sauce was to die for. The waitress was polite and attentive. We would definitely go back again!

Pleasantly surprised with my dining experience at LA Forge. We came here because it was listed in the local paper for having Friday night entertainment. The man who played piano was an awesome Irish American who took requests. The food was delicious and the portions just right. They didnt have chardonnay but based on our preferences recommended a Riesling for my mom that she ended up loving. Would definitely recommend for dinner.

Went with family with a pleasant mood and left the restaurant with a very bad experience. The head waitress was very rude and looked like having anger management issues. One more male staff member endorsed the head waitress behavior which made me believe the whole culture here was bad. I visit RI few times and have permanently struck off this restaurant from my list and any visitors I will bring to RI in future.

Very disappointing. Ive been eating here for years, and today, for the first time in months, I purchased a lobster roll (which was loaded with lemon)... usually a sign of old lobster in disguise. I had asked for drawn butter, and when I removed the cover, there were all kinds of things floating in it. Yuck. I gave them a courtesy call to let them know and I received a thank you.

Rude wait staff who leave you for 20-30 min at a time. Menu is overpriced and the food was terrible. Atmosphere is dark and odd. Everything felt so weird that we could hardly hold a conversation as a group until we left the restaurant -- which could not have happened fast enough. Newport has plenty of other great restaurants. Do not bother going to this one.

Nice table for two adjacent the grass tennis court. Menu said the lobster roll was a 40 year classic so who was I to argue. It also noted the chowder had a lot of clams so I ordered that too...Im easy like that. Good meal not great, but lots of it. Also, Im not a wine snob but I do like a real wine glass! Lot of history here, give it a try.

So impressed by the new selection and menu! Have been eating here for some time, and the additions of live plants and a fresh clean look made us want to stay all day! even on a rainy day, the familiar faces of a great wait staff kept us smiling, and the food was cooked to perfection. Cant wait to come back!!

Walking to downtown after a long mansion tour day we were very hungry. Stopped here to correct the issue. Great spot for lunch. Lots of menus choices. Of note was the stuffies. Though this was the first one I have ever had, it was very good. Good service as well.

The atmosphere was nice but the food was just awful, thick gloppy chowder, inedible salads from horrible lettuce, even the desserts were poor. The prices meanwhile were astronomical for Irish Pub fare. The service felt stuffy.

The food was really good and I recommend getting the nachos. However, the service was extremely slow and we had to be apologized to multiple times. Long wait on our food when there was hardly anyone in the restaurant.

Canned clam chowder. Bagged Caesar salad. I can tell because this is the food I make at home. I had higher expectations for a place located within sight of the ocean. Service was ok. But overall disappointing.

Simply, Overpriced, outdated place with food that is simply dry and not tasty, worse burger i ever had. $100 later we were still hungry. Wine was terrible too. Not going back.

Have had two networking meetings here, but both times the service and staff have been great.
