A few weeks ago, my girlfriend and I went to the Rose Garden to watch Portland beat Toronto. After the game, riding high on Portlands win, but not wanting to try any of the overcrowded bars around the Rose Garden, we stopped by the Nite Hawk on our way back to her place in North Portland. The bartender greeted us warmly. He saw the jersey I wore and asked about the game. It was cool; like greeting an old friend. The tap list was solid. 2 domestics and 10 micros, mostly northwest favorites like the Black Butte Porter and Dead Guy Ale. After a couple of beers, we decided on cocktails as a nightcap. Despite being busy (especially for a Monday night), the bartender took the time to ask us what liked in a drink and make some suggestions. For my girl, he made some kind of fruity martini, while I had a sazerac variation made with fresh lemon juice that was very good. And cheap! I would expect to pay 10 or 11 dollars for a similar cocktail in the city, but here it was only $7 despite the premium bourbon (Makers Mark) used! The beers, too, were cheaper than almost anywhere else I have been. Only $3.50 for northwest microbrews. What really got me was the way the bartender presented the check. He looked us in the eye, introduced himself, and said, "come back anytime." We will, and I want to give a shout out to Andy for the great service! With cheap, strong drinks, a solid beer selection, great service, and a cool, local, not-quite-divey atmosphere, the Nite Hawk is a great place to have a beer or a cocktail. I cant speak to the food, but I plan on finding out about an omelette, hashbrowns, and a Bloody Mary some hungover morning.

Had never been to this cafe but was looking for a neat diner to grab a good burger. Called in a ToGo order, gal on the phone was very nice. However, once I got to my destination and unpacked the food, they had forgot to put in silverware for the salad I ordered and my burger included chips as a side, which they also forgot. Burger was okay, nothing special, and the prices were a bit high, plus they charge extra for to go orders. Ill give this place another go, but really wasnt that impressed. Bit disappointed.

Great little diner! Food was good, had dinner there, and had to come back for breakfast! Portions were great! I am a big guy that eats A LOT, and had trouble finishing the food! Clam chowder was great! Quiet atmosphere, friendly service, and prices are good! Will be back here for sure on my next trip to Portland! Directly across the street from the Yellow Line Max exit on Rosa Parks, for you Max Travelers!

If you are looking for a place with a cheap happy hour, and where you can talk without having to shout over music, this is the best. Nothing fancy but thats exactly why my boyfriend and I loved it. Fast and friendly service and three pool tables! The music is a good volume and they had multiple TVs all playing different things. This has become our go to spot for a low key night out.

I had an amazing time at this diner. Sat at the counter and experienced great service. Coffee was excellent and so was the Biscuits and Gravy. I was tempted by the sign about piea alamode, and I couldnt have been more pleased. Pie was rich and ice cream was locally made and delicious. Cant wait to come back.

Stiff drinks, good pool tables, and a decent breakfast. Morning breakfast service can be a little.. Less than superb, but not enough of a reason to skip breakfast! Theyre starting to build a rolling memorial to places in Portland that have fallen. I noticed Veritable Quandary and Interstate Lanes.

It gets a four out of five, if only because it can take a few extra minutes to get a drink (but theyre strong and cheap), and for all the neon gambling garbage. I love that you can almost always get a pool table (watch out for league nights), and its never so loud you cant have a conversation.

Good food, good service and they received 100% on their most recent health inspection. Seafood is exquisite and the breakfast is ultimate comfort food. The servers were very entertaining and made it a very enjoyable experience. We will be back.

Good service with homemade Soups, gravy, etc all from scratch and tasty. I have never been in the lounge. Kids like to eat at the counter vs sitting in the booths. Thats a plus because if you go there enough they know you by name.

Mellow atmosphere for just about all you might need. Pool, lottery, food, drink, music or sports, it all here. Supported by a strong g, helpful staff, the Night hawk is a hot soot to be along Interstate Ave. and the light rail.

Everything is done here with the heart of home cooked. Vegetables are always fresh, place is always clean, service is always like visiting a friendly aunts house and the atmosphere is diner-authentic.

Never been here but I hope to one day! Very thankful for this place! My Memaw worked here in the 50s and met my Papaw (a city bus driver) here and the rest is history! I have heard many great stories!

On the restaurant side food is decent but service is awful no matter how busy or slow it is. I always have to ask for more water, coffee, jam (even when I get toast). Very nice workers though!

I went here today for breakfast. I had the chicken fried steak. It was nice and tender, with out to much breading. I would recommend the prime rib and eggs too. The steak was so tender.

The atmosphere was really awkward and unprofessional. I ordered chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs and I got chicken fried chicken with sunnyside up eggs.

Full old time diner and nostalgic. Full time cocktail lounge with pool tables and good food. Best of both worlds. The interior could use some attention.

Im only reviewing the bar. This is a great place to play pool. Ive never seen it too crazy busy, which is nice when you just want to run some racks.

Great drink selection and the food options too. One side is the family diner style cafe and the other is a neighborhood dive bar with pool tables.

Nice pool tables in the lounge. Breakfast for under five dollars too, which is tough to find these days. Great neighborhood bar and diner.

Cheap eats at good prices. Service can be a little slow at times, but if they hired more people Im fairly certain prices would go up.

Didnt need the munchies to eat that breakfast. At 2:30/pm.kind of wishing I had more room in my stomach so I could keep eating.

If you HAVE TO eat breakfast somewhere and cant go anywhere else THEN you might go here. Otherwise, why bother in a food town?

Old school diner. Average food. Nice waiters. Retro feel. Good at the basics. Usually runs one or more decent daily specials.

A fun old-school-feeling cafe on one side and a cozy dive bar on the other. I have to admit, Im a fan of their breakfast.
