I almost never give 2 star reviews. I can usually find enough objective good about a place to give it three stars. However, this place barely escaped a one star for me. For a place that bills itself as a 80s and 90s club, they played very little identifiable music from that era. Also, the DJ kept starting and stopping the music and putting record scratches over songs in places that it really wasnt called for. There were several bachelorette parties going on along with a lot of skeezy dudes just looking to get laid. It made the whole vibe weird and creepy. With the music turned up so loud, you feel the beat rattling your bladder, the stuffiness of having all of those bodies in such a tiny space, the lights going off in crazy patterns that seemed more intentioned to induce epileptic seizures than add to atmosphere, and the suffocation of the chemical from the fog machine preventing you from taking a full breath, there is literally no way to be physically comfortable in this space. The grilled cheese with tomato and bacon I ordered was well toasted on the outside, but I had a hard time feeling like they should have advertised it as "add bacon and tomato for an extra dollar". That bacon was nearly non-existent. The French fries were some of the best Ive ever had. The decor was interesting, fun and true to the 80s/90s theme. This, and the French fries kept it out of the 1* review territory.

Like the other reviewers here, I was forced to hand over my USC hat at the entrance. I thought the bouncer was kidding, razzing me because it was a Trojans hat. When I asked about his hat, he replied "its not a sports team, genius." Wow, okay. Apparently Jones does not allow "out of state sports team" gear (hats, shirts, etc.). Why? The employee collecting the cover ($10) explained "its how we deter gang violence." In Portland, OR. We dont live in South Central. Furthermore, when your club is filled with security guards, and you still have a problem with gang violence you need to evaluate your staff. You want to know the best part? While inside, I saw two (2) individuals, one with an out of state soccer jersey, and another gentleman with a Boston Red Sox shirt. Hmmm... Drinks were poor, slowly made, and service was abysmal. Went to the mens room to, you know, do what we do in there. A large man (Im assuming he was the bathroom attendant?) stopped me. "Before you take a piss--" then he removed an empty airplane liquor bottle from the urinal. Basically, if I hadnt been accosted at the door, I might have been inclined to look the other way. But its Portland. There are a dozen other clubs I can go to. This place needs Jon Taffer like sailors need condoms.

I always enjoyed going there because of the music.. but unfortunately the Bartender with the long black hair (Nicky?) was very rude. I should have been next to order my drink instead she helps all the guys that came after me. In fact later one of my friends came up to the bar and she helps her before me. Then finally after she has helped about ten other customers I raise my hand just incase she didnt see me. She rudely says "Dont do that"& walks off. I think a "Sorry for the wait, what can I get you?" would have been nice. We came with a large group of girls for a bachelorette party and she was also rude to the some of the other girls. A little more professionalism wouldnt hurt, at least a smile or two. Not here to bash all of the employees, I did later go to the male bartender and he helped me right away. And must say the woman working in the ladies restroom is a sweetheart, probably the best employee that the club has. Its a shame that the discourtesy of one employee will make me not want to go there ever again or recommend this place to anyone.

The bar/club area its self is amazing. However the bathroom attendant in the ladys room detained and and screamed at a girl for using lotion. First off Ive never been anywhere there was a bathroom attendant but I dont think they are suposted to man handle people. While I was washing up the girl next to me used a pump of lotion and turned to leave, at that moment the attendant literally leapt from her seat and two handed grabed her, and began yelling that it was a 1$, the stunned girl finnaly managed to say she had no cash. The attended seid she could not leave without paying and began to rant about how the girl must have grew up privileged and how life cost money, that it was shocking that she didnt think the lotion would cost(there are no signs anywhere that indicate that the products on the counter cost) I told her I had a dollar and would pay and even after I offered it to the attendant and she took it she continued rant to the woman about how "not everyone is privileged and life cost money" it throughly freaked me out!

Awful experience!! I dont recommend this place if youre a minority!! I booked my nieces Bachelorette Party there and hated the service and treatment from Mike the manager and his security as well as the DJ from the start. When it was supposed to be a joyous occasion, They made it hard to have fun and celebrate her upcoming nuptials. They kept charging drinks to my account that I did NOT authorize!! We paid it although most of my party goers went to the bar to buy their own drinks because our server Brittany was so slow in taking orders and then complain that they went to the bar to get their drinks!! I think I deserve a total refund for an awful experience. At this point I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone, Minority or otherwise!!

Came out from salem to have a good time and every staff member from jones bar made it impossible to do so. Very sneaky and scandalous security and extremely rude. They will yell at you and cuss at you. Show no remorse. The bar tenders are also rude and do a terrible job. Told the bar tender what i wanted and she proceeded to yell something back and ignored me. And it was my first drink for the night. Worst club Ive ever been to time after time. They dont even play any 80s music and theyre supposedly a 80 and 90s themed bar. They really need to get their act together. Ive been here a few times so this is based off of all the times Ive been here. Wont waste my time here. And you better believe all my friends will here about this.

Came in to Jones for the first time a few Saturdays ago, brought some friends from Seattle to show them a good time in Portland. First impression, it looks nice, good music. Bar staff were horrible, slow, gave dirty looks and were very unprofessional. Security staff was also very unprofessional, were racist, and we did not feel safe inside this place. Needless to say that we will not come back here. This place won’t last long if this continues to go on. They need to train their people in proper customer service and how to treat a customer. Its people who come through those doors, pay an entrance fee and pay for drinks and food that keep your checks coming in monthly.

This review is about last nights NYE neon celebration. My two friends, gay men, were told at the door by the bouncer that they were too drunk to come in. They were just standing there in line, not doing anything to act drunk at all. They had already paid for their tickets, they were able to calmly explain that they had already paid, and the bouncer told them that all they could do was sell their tickets to the two, visibly drunk, blond girls behind them. They were absolutely not belligerent, and they were definitely excluded because of who they are. They ended up counting down to midnight in the Lyft home. Discriminatory and so not ok.
