Occasionally, when I am having a bad day I know that I can spend just a few hours at Edens Gate and in no time whatever was bothering me will suddenly seem insignificant. I live near downtown Portland where having a beer can be quite the challenge. Who needs 50 choices of taps when surely four is enough? Just the other day I saw a hipster order some seaweed concoction to munch on with his PBR which he proudly announced he was only drinking ironically. The connoisseurs at Edens Gate dont do anything ironically and they will be quick to tell you that the best food to pair with an 87 Pabst is white rice sautéed in pork oil. Some guests at nearby The Allision have inappropriately and incorrectly nicknamed this place "Hick Bar". Dont let their bourgeoisie sentiments fool you. Take my word for it when I say the bushes outside of The Gate (the name us regulars gave to it) are more comfortable than anything The Allison has to offer. Ultimately though, it is not the beer, the food nor the convenient location that earned this hidden gem five stars. It is the people that make this bar what it is. After spending an evening talking to locals about their lives, politics, theories or whatever topic is up for discussion I always, and I mean always, feel a lot better about myself.

Long story short. We ordered 2 vegetarian dinners, one had pork and one had 2 coal black Asian hairs. When we complained about the pork the owner refused to speak to us, we could see him yelling and waving his arms at the waitress through their big kitchen window. So I told the waitress again that we werent paying for pork, weve been vegetarian for years, as it was we were sickened by the ground pork we had eaten by the time we realized what it was, yet again he yelled and refused to take the price off the tab or speak to us. The waitress finally told us he is a very hot tempered butthole, she told us he regularly harasses and belittles his employees. Finally the waitress told us to just walk out, so for the first time in our lives, we walked out on a check under the waitresses advice!!! So if you want crap you didnt order that makes you barf and is covered with large Asian hairs, go here! If not, STEER CLEAR!

Ordered potstickers, meat inside was still bright pink/raw, didnt realize it until after I ate one. Waiter returned them to kichen, said they would make new. Served me second order (I split two potstickers open before biting to check for doneness) and they were more raw on the inside than the original order, ugh. The waiter never came by again to check on us until he left the bill. I showed him the raw potstickers and I politely declined his offer to make a third order. My experience was embarassing as I sat with my family sipping tea while they were able to eat their meals (they ordered pork noodle soup). The one nice thing is they did take the price of my order off the bill. I will not be returning to this place! Im very sick to my stomach just thinking about it!

If youre looking for a quiet, romantic dinner with the best Chinese-American food on the West Coast, Eden Gate Lounge is for you. During the day, the restaurant is a wonderful brunch location and should be the first choice for business meetings over lunch. After 9 PM, the lounge turns into a classy and sophisticated place to meet up with your friends for a martini or just a great place to listen to soothing, quiet music and enjoy a moment of self reflection. Dont be fooled by the rustic charm of the exterior of the building, Eden Gate Lounge is by far the most sophisticated place in town and it is no wonder other locations such as The Allison attempt (and fail) at imitating what this lounge does so well. Formal attire is not required but recommended.

Love Eden Gate! The best Chinese in town. It is never busy and the manager is the nicest guy! He is a sweet older Chinese man and he is pretty funny and very friendly. Get the family dinner and you wont be disappointed. The portions are very large we always leave with tons of leftovers. The bar/lounge side of the restaurant is not as good, we have had a couple of issues with some of the staff. They are not to friendly and not great at dealing with a crowd. Another disappointing thing is that they do not serve food once the restaurant side closes. I would avoid the lounge but definitely go to the restaurant.

The bar manager was very rude and kicked us out simply because we were using our electronic cigarettes in the smoking area outside, which isnt against any laws or rules, and wasnt bothering anyone but her, she just said that she didnt like it. After telling my friends and I that we needed to leave, she over charged my tab and literally chased my friend out of the door. I was a regular at this bar, and used to enjoy the karaoke, but after this incident I will never go there again. I was treated like a criminal for no reason.

This is my favorite Chinese place in Newberg. The food is excellent and (of course) comes in huge quantities. But the service here is phenomenal. My favorite little touch that they put on their service is a free bowl of their soup while you wait for a to go order to be assembled.

Worst Chinese food Ive ever had. The best thing on the menu is white rice. Seriously, if panda express is better...youve got some serious problems! Even the pot stickers are garbage!

Fast friendly service and large portions. It was fun to watch the food get cooked through the window. Old fashioned Chinese american food, fried rice had unique flavor.

Kind of an outdated dive...never get the lunch special with the milkshake...just order off the menu if you want to keep it in your body...

A little spendy, and they sometimes go overboard with the breading on some of the chicken. But other than that, good stuff.

Lowkey place to drink at. Its usually populated throughout the week as opposed to some of the local bars.
