My wife and I have visited the Warther Museum and Gardens in Dover, Ohio, three times in the last six years and we plan to visit again. The museum and gardens are a beautiful legacy of the life, love, and genius of Ernest "Mooney" Warther and his family. They also serve as a subtle advertisement for Warther Cutlery, but I dont mind at all, since Warther knives are the finest cutlery I have ever owned. Mooney Warther, the son of Swiss immigrants to the United States, possessed only a second grade education, but he was a gifted artist with a knife. His carvings are beautiful, intricately detailed, and meticulously wrought. The museum has a well-thought-out layout, and I have never met a tour guide that was not completely, deeply knowledgeable about the life and history of Mooney Warther. Mooneys wife Frieda laid out and maintained very beautiful gardens, and the museum works hard to keep these gardens maintained. When we were there, the gardener was out in the rain weeding. A couple of spots were pretty weedy with small thistle plants, but overall, the gardens still looked very nice. Frieda collected buttons, and her arrangements of buttons are worth seeing simply for the artistry. I highly recommend the Warther Museum and Gardens as a place to visit and spend a few hours.

Warther Family

Amazing! If you like wood carving, trains, and hand made cutlery this is a one stop shop. The museum will blow your mind as it shows scale models of trains and other items to scale in wood. All by a single man with very little education. To day that its just amazing is mild, more like unbelievable. The museum is the must see attraction. They have a nice little gift shop and they will sharpen your knives there. They sell cutlery sets, jewelry, and replicas of many of the carvings. We go up every year when we visit relatives.

Warrhers craftsmanship in carving is exceeded by none and his knowledge of natural materials was amazing. The museum displays his work in carvings of wood and ivory as well as the largest collection of native Indians is the largest Ive ever seen. I have visited four times and the best time to visit is the spring due to the beautiful gardens around the property. This is a place that will interest most everyone! Dont pass up an opportunity to visit this one of a kind museum.

Fantastic ... I grew up near the museum. I could not get enough of Mr. Warthers stories. What a thrill to ride on the old swing Mr. Warther put up for the kids. Too bad the old oak tree had to come down. You really missed something if you never seen his carvings ... the details ... the craftsmanship of his work. I dare say there will never be another person like Mr. Warther in our life time.

Dont bother going here. It totally sucks a big one. I felt like I was in my grandpas basement. There is a guided tour which is painfully long, a movie which is even worse and then you are able to buy knives. I had to leave in the middle of it because it was so boring. Do yourself a favor and go to Amish Country instead.

This museum doesnt only have amazing carvings & a great history, it also doubles as a wedding venue! My sister recently got married there & it was just beautiful! They have a wedding planner on site to help with all your needs. Its a great place for a wedding if you have around 50 guests. Please check it out!

Phenomenal wood and ivory carving by Mr Warther, a genius! His train models made by hand are out of this world. The black and white documentary of Mr Warthers life was fascinating. Their gift shop has unique gifts and a knife shop that manufactures a world class knives.
