Is it a museum or a Dressed up Mac Donalds? To start, yes, I agree with some of the comments on prices, expensive day trip; then again you are in Charlotte, where everything is expensive and do not forget the 9% on taxes that some of the locations/stores charge. Yes, the front desk people NEEDS and must have an assessment or examination in order to upgrade this, that they call Customer Service. How about some kind of sign for where does the entrance is or if I could come through any door and pay? How about that there is a Museum Parking available, for those of us that have not idea what are we doing? And once you are in, more signs to tell you where to go. Or better yet: Have an employee that knows the place and will -Kindly- escort you to where you want to go? May be the person that is taking your money could identify in that "geometrical confusing pastel color paper" referred as MAP; the steps that you need to take. Mentioning that the NW stairs/elevator do NOT go to the second floor, even if you go to the 3rd floor there is NO connection whatsoever... You HAVE to take the SE stairs/elevator, which might not be close together, if you want the second floor and that the SE stairs/elevator, will NOT take you to the 3rd floor. It also you need to notice that even though it states the word MUSEUM is more like a CHILDRENS museum, a lot of running around, loud voices, confusion, not enough employees to help you out, and so forth. It is hard to think in/on the beauty, and marvel at nature and dream of what if(s), when there is a child screaming that is their birthday and that they are celebrating it there, as if I cared; or how about enjoying some past culture, ancient royalty and suddenly a group of children playing tag as if these pieces where from the dollar store... It is sad that the parents that though this was Mac Donalds playground are teaching their children that is so. and people like me and my family, that are interested in the past and how amazing is being protected and pass from generation to generation soon will have not place to go, unless you travel or get satisfied with the internet view. Thank you for your time, may this little review prepare you to a day out or holiday. Good Day.

What an immense disappointment. What an embarrassment for Charlotte. Im not a violent man but if this museum had a face Id punch it. This science museum is, at best, a poor and unrefined tool to get children interested in some sciences. There is so much potential in this location being squandered. Theyve a great staff working the floors - they were kind and courteous and helpful and interested in talking to the patrons and schools that were visiting. I fear the detriment to Discovery Place Science is very poor direction and management. What poor vision! If youre visiting as part of a school field-trip and have never been to a museum before, its okay. If youre a pre-teen child and have never been to a museum before, its okay. If you want to visit an aquarium or a zoo - go to an aquarium or a zoo, not Discovery Place Science. Youll learn and experience so much more at an aquarium or a zoo. There are exhibits here, dont get me wrong, they exist and they are awful. Try to find a museum in your area that is dedicated to being a museum of something - modern art, history, a collection, a botanical garden even. We were excited to visit because of the Genghis Khan exhibit. It was an unorganized, poorly curated amalgamation of artifacts, reproductions and video documentary. We felt as if we were walking through a high school report that was hastily completed the night before it was do. There was an effort but not a good one. Discovery Place Science fails tremendously because it does not do well in any one of the fields it attempts to cater to. As a learning tool for children or as an introduction to life-sciences its just okay at best. At worst its a cash-grab scheme. Youll be paying far too much to waste just a few hours at what should have been a roadside attraction. Im not from the Carolinas and I can say that there is so much that Charlotte has to be proud of. Charlotte and the surrounding area is beautiful and full of truly wonderful people and attractions with plenty to offer its visitors in entertainment and food and culture. Discovery Place Science does not reflect that.

There was not enough time in a full day to do it all. My kids loved it and the planned events they had were too many to fit in with all the kids free time exploring the place. What really astounded me was my five year old daughter had her birthday in February (6 months prior to this post) she saved her birthday money and bought a present at the gift shop. On the 200 mile drive home (we were visiting from out of town) she showed considerable patience while asking me about every two minutes if she could open it so she could start to play. I assured her the next morning after we made it home and she slept she could enjoy it. My wife opened it the next morning and there was a problem with it and it was not functional. I called the gift shop and spoke with Michael, he told me he would send us another? I expected all kinds of hoops and ladders, but after I told him the situation he took charge and wanted to make sure my baby was happy. He called me later in the day and voiced his concern that since the item we purchased had to have fluid in it to run properly, he was worried in the shipping it may leak and not work for her yet again. Where do you see this kind of concern in this day in age from a retailer? I thought I was in the 1920s buying something from a neighbor! I explained I had full confidence in his decision capabilities, as he took the time to walk out onto the sales-floor and name some items he thought may be a better item for shipping (really! really! really! were do you see this level of care in retail today?) The items arrived the next day, and if you could of seen my daughters face! I was just blown away from the level of care that this young man provided to see everything righted for my young daughter. I hope discovery place recognizes Michaels efforts, and can help convey my warmest thanks for his hard work and efforts that went well above what is expected!

Discovery Place is listed as one of Charlottes #1 attractions when visiting the city. I understand why after spending time in the city--there is nothing else to offer. That being said, I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED by Discovery Place for a number of reasons, starting with the $12 fee to park in their deck. As Charlotte has very few parking options for those not wanting to spend the ridiculous prices of the decks and lots around the city (most of the lots were upwards of $20 to park), you have almost no choice. For a city that unlike LA, New York, or Atlanta, has so little to offer, these prices are ridiculous. Secondly, the price of entrance to the museum I would describe as steep at best. With a student "discount" I paid $23.60 for entrance to the museum and the Bodies Exhibit. Moving on, the Bodies Exhibit was incredibly opinion based. While much of the information was factual, many opinion-based statements were weaved in and out of the entire exhibit. Going to a place such as this, I expect only scientific fact and not to be bombarded with the personal beliefs of the curators. Additionally, the other rooms in the building are extremely disorganized to the point where they could be described as downright messy. It seemed as though the employees there were not there to work at all-- many of the activities we were unable to participate in because of the lack of materials that clearly should have been restocked, or cleaned up. I will never return to Discovery Place or Charlotte, NC, and I will recommend just that to anyone who asks.
