REVIEW EDIT: Heron Hill responded quickly to our review and offered us a chance to revisit with a private one-on-one tasting. We had Nicolette as our server and wow- what a difference. We have been to many many tastings at a large variety of wineries and this one was one of the best experiences yet. Her knowledge, understanding and personal recommendations were not only genuine but respectable. She listened to what we liked, and discussed with us each wine we inquired about. Nicolettes suggestions were not only appreciated but we could tell she was actually listening to us and our preferences. We ended the tasting with some dessert wines (outstanding, by the way!) and a quick visit to the top of the tour. It was a beautiful and wonderful experience, even though it was very windy and deceivingly cold outside with all of the sunshine. Thank you Nicolette for accommodating us on such short notice and giving us a truly amazing experience.*While we have never had a poor experience in previous years or visits to Heron Hill; our most recent visit left a "very bad taste in our mouth". Our server Ron was rude, arrogant and held zero consideration in our group. Once we shared we preferred sweet wines, especially ice wines, he was disgusted, made remarks about it, and in the end refused to serve us the sweet wines on the tasting list and brought back very dry options even after we asked to switch back to trying the remaining sweet options. I understand you sell several dessert wine options. Unfortunately we were unable to inquire, upgrade our tasting to include, or purchase any of those options. As long as people like Ron work at your establishment, this family will not be returning. It is sad that people are given less service, all due to their wine tasting preference. On a better note, the pizza salad food pairing option was very good and gave much better customer service than Ron.*

Unfortunately, we had a disappointing time at Heron Hill. In the past, I have been a fan of their wine, so I was excited to taste them all. It was extremely busy in there, we could see this. So, we took a spot at the end of the bar and chatted while we waited for someone to help us. About 10 minutes passed and a worker came over and told us that they would be having another employee come over in a couple minutes. So we said sure.. we werent in a rush or anything. So, we wait more.. about 10 more minutes. So, finally, the girl comes over to us who is serving on that side of the bar and tells us to go down to the other side of the bar because there is going to be an opening over there in a couple minutes. So we say sure, no problem. Now, this is where we got a little ticked. We are on the opposite side of the bar now and we look over to where we were in the first place. We see the girl who just told us to move start pouring for a group that had JUST moved into the spot we were standing. So, obviously we are confused. We continue to be patient, until about 5 minutes later the other girl tells us to go down to the other side of the bar. This is when we tell her that we were just there and she told us to come down to this side. So, we say to each other that maybe we should just leave. Mind you, this is almost 30 minutes we have been standing in the place waiting. So we go to leave and the girl yells at us and says, "REALLY??" We say nothing and leave. We went to Keuka Lake Vineyards afterwards where we were greeted by a very friendly staff and were served promptly. They were busy as well, but found a way to be friendly and accommodating.

TERRIBLE place! For a friends birthday a group of us rented a limo to do a wine tour around the Finger Lakes. We had a WONDERFUL time and all came home with more than wine that we can ever drink... but NONE of the wine was or ever will be from Heron Hill! We were a small group, not a big bus, just a small group of friends who happend to arrive in a limo instead of a Sedan. When we pulled into Heron Hill, before we could even get out of the limo a woman came out of the winery waving her hands and screaming "no no no I dont think so, we dont do limos! You need to leave!" The woman would not have been ruder!!! She acted like we all planned to urinate on the steeps instead of PURCHASE bottles and cases of wine! I would NEVER return to Heron Hill Winery after this experience! I WILL tell EVERYONE I meet how terrible my friends and I were treated! I DID spend my money (does this woman not realize were in a recession and people are cutting back on LUXURY spending---so seeing people arrive in a limo should be a cue of wow, maybe these people are going to really spend some money????) at another winery just down the road who were THRILLED to see a limo of a small group of friends out for a great day of wine tasting. If you want to be shunned away like a leper... go to Heron Hill... if you want someplace that is welcoming and excited to see BUSINESS walk through the door... go somewhere else!

From the Keuka Lake trail literature, Heron Hill was a high flier in terms of the language used, and it gave us some hope that the wines would be inspired and exceptional in some way. Unfortunately their offerings were fairly run-of-the-mill and their wines were plagued by technical faults (true faults or poor winemaking; maybe both in some cases). Their facility, while beautiful, was plagued by fruit flies, and the senior staff seemed more occupied with the gift shop than the tasting room. In all likelihood, we would not revisit this producer.

Went for a tasting with my boyfriend last week and have never felt more insulted at a winery. The facility is beautiful, the wine is great, but we had a very pompas and masoginisitc staff member. He only catered the tasting toward my bf, who doesnt drink wine, and then bluntly asked for a tip..... IF (big chance I wont) I ever go back, I will ask for someone other than him!

tasting room nice with gorgeous view, helpful staff and good wine. restaurant/cafe food average, server unapologetically inadequate. not that its a huge deal, but to charge the designated driver $2 for each wine goblet of soda is insulting (especially without saying anything on the menu)... I guess we dont count on too much return business...

Huge Winery on top the hill looking over the lake! We did a tasting outside under a tent, then went inside to look around in the store. During the tasting they offer 2 wines each go around and you simply pick which of the two you want to try. That makes it simple for guys like me who dont know what to pick haha

This is a great winery to visit. My family and I usually go to Bully Hill vineyard which isnt too far from here and then Heron Hill winery. The views are breathtaking! The wines are good and their staff are friendly. Lots of parking and easily accessible for handicapped people.

Loved their wine and tasting room. We had a knowledgeable server who got the answers to all the tough questions we asked. They were running out of some of our favorite dry reds, but we still walked away with several reasonably priced bottles of wine.
