When I arrived they didnt have my reservation but Im not blaming them for that as I think it was the fault of the organization that booked my room. I stayed there as a performer in The Exit 0 Jazz Festival. After apparently getting no help from a back room manager and what seemed like a reluctance to call the lady in charge of the hotels bookings, who had just left, the gentleman at the check-in desk luckily made an executive decision on his own and found me a room even though the sign at front said there was no vacancy. The room was neat & clean, the bed had good fresh linens & there were plenty of what seemed like practically brand new towels. This is really more of a modest motel rather than a full service, upscale hotel so my expectations were adjusted with this in mind. The only things that ultimately disappointed me were the overly soft mattress, the thin walls (I could easily hear conversations in the neighboring room), the tub (though clean) looked like it was from 1974 and the metal pole supporting the banjo-style sink in the bath was rusted. I always sctrach my head at some hotels choices to put metal parts like that directly next to a toilet in such a damp & corrosive environment. I guess its view and close proximity to the beach directly across the road is a nice plus if one visits during the summertime though. Id give them 5 stars for the personable nature of their staff & cleanliness but just some of their outdated hardware, mushy mattress and thin walls knocks the overall score experience down for me.

The hotel is right across from the beach with umbrellas and beach chairs provided. It is within waking distance to the village and has an indoor/outdoor restaurant called the Rusty Nail next door which we found excessively noisy, food was alright, not great. They have a band and the music can be heard all day and night in the Beach Shack but not in the rooms. We stayed with a friend and the scene on the hotel veranda was crowded and noisey, even late at night. Hotel is family friendly. My friend payed for an "Oceanview" room, but the room was tucked in a corner with a view of a cement wall. The hotel offered to move everyone today, but too much of a hassle. The room was clean and bright, had small fridge, mini microwave and coffee maker. The bed linebacker were nice but it definitely felt more on the spartan side for the price. Bathroom was very small and all in one (no outside the bathroom sink area) but the toiletries were higher end and generous. For convenience and overall experience the hotel is nice, but for me, I prefer a quieter and more boutique feel. Overall, one of the nicer family friendly beach hotels in Cape May. For price vs. amenities and overall feel, this is only a 3 star place at best, save the location.

My family and I stayed at the Beach Shack a few weeks ago and were sorely disappointed. Although the staff was very friendly and accommodating, the motel itself was very outdated. Our room smelled terribly of mold and mildew, the carpet was not plush or even a comfortable commercial carpet, and the bathroom was so small and in dire need of a face lift (it was like an afterthought in the room). I felt like I was stuck in the 50s. The price they ask for a room is totally outrageous considering all of this. Not to mention that no continental breakfast or even a cup of coffee was anywhere to be found (except for the little one cup coffee maker in the room with those packets of ground coffee). We stayed in a small reasonable motel in North Carolina not too long ago and they even served some fresh brewed coffee in the lobby with a basket of fruit and a few pastries. The best thing about the beach shack is its proximity to the beach and the beach service with nice lounge chairs and plush terry towels and umbrellas. The Rusty Nail cabana bar was great too. We will most likely never return. There are much nicer rooms for the same price elsewhere in Cape May.

The Beach Shack is located right across from the beach. It offers one pool, a fire pit and live music. The room left a lot to be desired. It is really a motel, rooms are old, industrial carpet, nice bedding, no hair dryer and no phone. We had no cell service in our room so a phone would have been nice, especially if there had been an emergency. It is way over price at over $300 a night! Had it been below $200 it would be more acceptable. But they can get the price, I would be surprise if their return guest rate is very high. I would not stay there again. linda

Newly renovated rooms for the 2017 Summer Season. Its a laid back family vacation hotel located across the beach. They have a chair service so you can leave your beach chair and towel at home. Food and beverage service also available on the beach. If its not a beach day, they also have a pool. Come off of the beach to grab a drink/food and stay to listen to the daily live music at the bar and grill. You can play ping pong, shuffle board or in the sand with the kids. You can warm up at the fire pit if you make it a night.

Love it. We all had a nice time. The rooms are very clean. the pool and the restaurant were great. The beach is right across the street which is beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay. We got the paw up package for your dog and it was awesome. My dog never been so happy. They gave her a bed, a food and water bowl, a leash, a frisbee, a special treat and $20.00 to go eat at the restaurant. Will go again for sure.

Went to the Rusty Nail for dinner on the night they had the roast pig. It took about 45 mins to be seated but theres a good sized waiting area near the bar. The fried clam Strips were very good while the conch fritters were light on the conch. The land and sea fajitas were also good, although they were served with kind of a small amount of Pico de Gallo. Service was good and the food was too.

We went to the Beach Shack for breakfast while vacationing in Cape May with family . While I was there I looked around to see the motel and it looked very nice, it had and indoor bar in the restaurant and and outside area with tables a fire pit and tiki type bar. The waitress was extremely sweet and very good. I am considering staying here on my next vacation.

We usually stay at the Sandpiper and heard this was better for our age group (23-28) and we loved it! Our room was 40 feet from the fire put and live music from The Rusty Nail and the noise did not affect us being able to have silence at 9:30pm, while music was still playing. We go to Cape May 8-10 times every summer, this is our favorite spot to stay!!

The location was perfect! It is excellent in cleanliness and is very well maintained! The staff are all around friendly and courteous. I had forgotten a personal item on my last visit and they were kind enough to call and mail it home. I will definitely be returning and recommending to all my family and friends! We love it at the Beach Shack!
