My advice would be to plan your day using the daily schedule before going. We went yesterday for childrens day and it was great. There was many crafts and 4 great performances in the performing arts tent, from a science show, interactive music activity, the informative and entertaining Rizzos Reptiles and a fun bubble performance. We also saw a circus performance and bike stunt show. Visited many booths and received so many giveaways. We watched a live bee demo, made cupcakes, viewed a gingerbread display and cake decorating competition, visited the 4h educational center to see all the great exhibits and experienced interactive museum sights and farm and other agricultural activities . The kids went to the petting zoos and saw the giraffes. This was all included in the admission which was $9 for adults if you got there during the early bird special. Kids were free! The kids really enjoyed feeding the animals, especially the giraffes which we had to pay a nominal fee for the food. Monster trucks could be experienced with an extra charge, but we felt there was more than enough things to do. Food is expensive in most of the vendors as fairs generally are, but the center of the fair had a place that was not only reasonably priced but the food was fresh and quantity was satisfying. We didnt go on any rides, as there was more than enough to do! The overall experience was wonderful.

Please stop destroying the fair! Less carnival stuff and more of the country county fair please! Each year it seems like the fair is getting more and more like the one at the meadowlands. We dont need another one of those! Since it has become the state fair there has been a big decline in the quality of the fair experience. Please bring back the sussex county farm and horse show. Bring back the reining and the barrel racing competitions. Horse and tractor pulls, lumber jack competitions, 4 h, the pig beauty contest, lawn mower races, the demo derbies . . .there need to be more things like those! local things like this should take priority not pushed out for more dime a dozen carnival and commercial crap . Some carnival things are good but enough is enough! Last years craft tent was a joke! Im sure its to late for this year but please bring back the country fair feel for next year! Its sad when the locals dont even want to go to their own fair anymore or more accurately feel pushed out. We dont need anymore commercial carnivals in this state. What we need is our fair back.

Well folks the fair really stunk last night. It cost $13 to get in and that gets you nothing but admission. All food is outrageously expensive so eat before and just get an expensive snack (ice cream $6 for a small sundae and pizza $4/slice). Admission to the tractor pull, rides on the monster trucks, etc. are all extra! And now for my review on the rides: $11 for one of the more adult rides...yes I said $11 !!!!!!! WTF? Games are $3 and $5 to win a stinky stuffed animal. There was only one craft tent and nothing much in the other tents. We did see some of the most beautiful horses and small animals; they havent changed in over 10 years. Needless to say this was our last year going to the State Fair. It was horrible and way too expensive!!!!

Entrances prices are much more palatable when you buy tickets in advance versus at the gate. However even at that for value for what we get seems to go downhill every year. My kids always loved the petting zoo which rather than the quarter machines for food now sells food in cups for $2 to $5. Ok so we decide to buy the $5 cup anyway. The problem is no animals would eat and they want the cup back when you leave. I get the animals may not be hungry but annoying that they still are willing to sell the food and then probably reuse the food and cup when you hand it back.

What a disappointment. Many events from last year missing. No circus, no dogs doing tricks in water, many empty vendor tents, buildings only partially filled. Where did the fair we love go? We often went twice - no need this year. A new manager was hired - is this why? Fair had been built up to be loads of fun and things to look at. Participants there from years ago are no longer present. Fee too high? Something is dreadfully wrong and it seems the fair may be on its way out if something isnt done . Such a shame.

Fun for all ages at the state fair. Lots of activities and things to see for the young ones. Our 5 year old nephew loved the rides, though the tickets for them are quite pricey. Lots of livestock to see up close including horses, oxen, sheep, goats, pigs, alpacas, an even ostriches. Good variety of rides for different ages. Lots of fair food at decent prices.

A little disappointed in the fact that most of the things I was looking forward to at the Fair went missing this year. They need to keep the great things and switch up the place from time to time. Food is great rides are great and all the shows are amazing. If you never been there and you live close enough to drive give it a shot its worth it.

I echo what Allison Davaris said. The fair has gone downhill fast since becoming the State Fair: Theres much more emphasis on tacky carnival clatter, and less on the farm and horse show exhibits. (The equestrians hardly show up anymore). Too bad. This was a great family event not too many years ago.

Weve been coming to the fair for the past 25 years or so and always have a good time. Its nice to see the animals and farm equipment and everyone loves the rides. They should probably always offer wristbands for the rides everyday though.

Sussex County Fair!! An awesome day - great atmosphere, family fun, great carnival food, etc. Only drawback is the traffic to get there. One lane highways. Which means long waits with kids in the car.

This is DJ Maxx Saint and this is a classy place for holding large scale family events and Wedding Receptions! Love it! I recently DJd a party here for approximately 200 patrons.

This is nowhere as good as a Midwestern state fair, but is okay for New Jersey. It is much better than the Meadowlands State Fair in East Rutherford.

I love going here every year! Its a great place to blow off steam and have some fun. They also do allow the drinking of alcohol on their grounds.

Went here for the taco festival. The festival suffered from poor planning. There were huge lines for each food truck. The grounds were fine.

Nice farm animals and home grown produce exhibits. We had fun feeding parrokeys and butterflies.

It will never be as good as it was when it was the Farm and Horse Show and in Branchville.
