We stayed here for a long weekend vacation before my wife started her Masters program. We expected a fun medieval experience, since we chose the hotel modeled after a castle. We did not receive a fun medieval experience. The only thing medieval at this hotel is the general castle-like exterior facade. My main reasons why we did not have a good time are as follows: 1. Too many people smoking in the hotel. If you want to allow people to poison themselves while gambling, set up a sealed off smoking lounge. Allowing people to force everyone around them (including your employees) to breath in their poisons is the same as saying that you do not care at all about your customers. 2. The valet was the worst Ive ever seen (very rude, slow, lazy, and inefficient). The first time we tried to use them, I sat in the valet line for 20 minutes without seeing a single valet. The second time, I was berated by the rude valet for pulling into the guest lane before they told me to. When I picked up my car, they refused to charge it to my room, then stood around in their booth chatting for abotu 10 minutes before going to get our car. Horrible! 3. Realistically, there was no security. We were in and out of our room throughout the day and night. We say a security guard checking room keys at the elevator once, on the last night we stayed there. When we did pass that guard, they asked for our room key, I flashed them the first card I thought was it, from my wallet, to which they then glanced back down at their phone (? maybe a book). Turns out the card I pulled out was my M-Life card, not my room key. They never even checked out names or anything. I could have found a room key on the ground. Either way, I could just go on the weekends, when there is no security. 4. Too many people pestering guests, trying to get them to go look at time-shares. That is extremely bad for business. 5. It was rather sad that they wanted guests to pay extra to be able to enjoy a pool that was not crowded with unruly kids. Those kids should have been the ones that had to pay to use a segregated pool. Its Vegas, not Disney! 6. The spa constantly advertises a couples massage. When I went to reserve one for my wife and I, I was told that they do not do them anymore, and that I had to go to the Luxor if I wanted to get one. Aside from being extremely disappointing, that is false advertising. 7. Everything was overpriced in the Excalibur stores; but, I guess that is to be expected. The worst part was that I could not buy a coke anywhere in the hotel. Seriously? Pepsi products only??? People actually drink that? 8. Johnny Rockets was a hotel fast food joint... Not much to say, the food was under par for a Johnny Rockets (as expected). And, everything was overpriced (also, as expected). 9. Gambling at the tables and slots was fine, until someone sat down next to me smoking. I did not pay to sit around and breath in poisonous gases. My suggestions: 1. Get rid of the smoking in the hotel! 2. Get some security at the guest elevators, like all the other hotels have. 3. Fire your valet staff. And, then go watch the free valet at the Stratosphere. They were actually running from car to car. The two star rating is only due to the front desk and the concierge, even though they could not get us show tickets. The concierge price was about 50% higher than the list price on the websites. Very odd. I do not believe we will ever return to this hotel.

Stay SOMEWHERE ELSE. "Upgraded" ROYAL TOWER Rooms were not upgraded or even renovated; they were merely "refreshed" according to a front desk supervisor. What this means is basically new artwork and and bedding, newer bathroom faucets (in old sinks and counters). The carpet was old and stained, YUCK, and the brown tile with brown grout (who knows what lies within that)k in the bathrooms has never been replaced (the80s called and wants their tile back). Furniture was missing pull handles, art was peeling on the wall, TV was outdated flat screen with horrible sound fluctuations & terrible picture quality reminiscent of vintage tvs with bunny ears & grainy reception. And the AIR-CONDITIONING, just wow... Two settings, Off or On; either sweatin to the oldies, or wish I brought a parka mode (some gloves and a wool hat wouldve been nice too) And this was AN UPSELL offered by the front desk clerk at check-in for $10 extra per night. Jeez, if this was an up upgraded room, I would have hated to see what the room we had booked (advertised as renovated) in the Resort Tower would have looked like; these had not yet even been "refreshed", and we were told "you(we) need to realize, that this is an old hotel". Uhm SORRY, not buying that... Ballys, The Tropicana, Flamingo, Golden Nugget, Harrahs, Caesars and the MGM Grand have been there far longer than Excalibur, and their rooms are fabulous, and on par with current design trends. So all in all, we complained on the first night to the Front desk supervisor, who offered to credit that first nights room upgrade fee of $10 OR if that wasnt acceptable, we were told as "an alternative option" we could switch rooms, and move to a Resort Tower room similar to one which we had originally booked, which was more like being told to go screw ourselves, and have fun packing and trekking to the opposite side of the property for an even worse room on the 3rd floor with a view of gravel and massive air handlers in the original tower. As to this a $30 p/night (xs 3 nights) Resort fee; PLUS $10 per day (Xs 4 days) Parking Fee to Self-Park (since free parking is virtually non-existent everywhere). And a worthless $20 Drink Credit which went unused because rather than provide the guest (upon check-in) with a voucher or credit on their MLife Card, they tell you in order to use the credit you must return to the Mlife counter at the front desk after checking in (which took almost an hour waiting in line) to request a voucher for the drink credit. The Excalibur, in my opinion is just a Roadside Motel operating within large scale Hotel Format! In fact after writing this review, Im changing the 2 star rating I entered earlier to a 1 star. Never Again, And quite possibly never another MGM Resort Property.....! Far better service, quality and value for at any number of the Hotels in Vegas.

My husband and I booked a vacation package in February for six nights at Excalibur Las Vegas. We paid for and extra day so we could check in after a five hour flight from Anchorage as they hold check in at bay not until after 3:00 PM. Our room was on the 13th floor at the end of the hall making it difficult to reach in order to have a tub. When we arrived the room was not clean as there were old soda products in the refrigerator. The tub was virtually inaccessible placed in a corner with a single step to climb up onto a platform to enter tub. Getting out was even more difficult so we paid extra for the tub and could only use once. Luckily there was a shower in the room. The toilet was too low to the floor with a loose seat and water would not stop running in the tank. We told housekeeping but still was not fixed the entire week. We stayed in Royal Tower. Noise was horrible when trying to sleep from outside vendors. Dining was a joke we paid $80 for all day two people for buffet. we ate breakfast at 11:45 AM ((brunch) and food was cold, dry and not fit to eat. All they serve is Pepsi and it is terrible. So we got juice and tea that was not good either. We went on about our day and returned at 7:30 for dinner and again nothing fit to eat, all cold, no vegetables and horrible salad bar. We were seated next to sushi bar that smelled awful. No servers to bring drinks either. We spent over $1800 for trip and hotel not to mention cost for food, beverages and gaming. Service needs improving, food preparation needs a different hand to prepare and price gouging for juice, sodas and water is not going to entice visitors. This is our first and last time to ever use Excalibur Hotel when going to Vegas. Owned by MGM Grand one would think there would be more incentive to want to customer to return. We did not appreciate male strippers stopping us in our path nor did we like timeshare sales attempting to sells us products during our vacation. Food court is doable, other than loud drunk people disturbing ones meal forget room service when they wanted to charge sixty dollars for a single breakfast. We are officially done with Las Vegas as they have pedestrian access all torn up, elevators from lower level not working so wheelchair access not functional. Alleged resort fees collected for city certainly did not reflect improvements in city wide access. Well guess not.
