I attended a wedding reception here on a Saturday. It was my first time here and it made a favorable impression. The art work on display was of quality and filled the eye with much detail. The food was above average (fall veggies in a red pepper sauce, pork loin w/ pear chutney, sliced chicken, butternut squash risotto, potato fingerlings, and a salad of greens w/ candied pecans (not overly sweet,) and a couple other veggies I cant remember,) which was served in a buffet style. The service staff was attentive and polite. The tables were located at multiple areas of the museum, but within visual sight of most of the other tables at a given time, so there was physical separation to good degree. Given the design of the place, the acoustics were pretty rough and your during the dinner, you had to semi-forcefully project your voice to compete with 50 other voices. That aside, it was a cool place to check out. If there was no cover charge, Id go back to casually check out new pieces/displays.

Contemporary art isnt much of my taste, but the architecture of this place is beautiful and there is a piece of chulily art right above one of the entrances and it is breath-taking. I didnt get a chance to try the restaurant inside (the Sebastian), but its worth a visit if you enjoy this type of art. My fiance and I stopped at a little local place called Crows coffee and it was a nice way to spend an afternoon while on vacation in KC.

I had a great time here. Its smaller, but definitely quiet and interesting to visit. And since its contemporary art, we knew we would see some "different" pieces in here. The "Word Spill" was by far the most intriguing, and the gentleman working there who was telling us about it was very intuitive and helpful. I will definitely visit again.

A very nice Contemporary Art Museum. There was a nice variety of displays. The art ranged from the very abstract to the much more approachable. It was great to see local artists featured as well as women and African American artists. My favorite exhibit was actually the cafe. Thats a spot I would not miss.

Quality at a great price: FREE! Art is varied, including LOCAL artists! Docents welcome you in and, for our experiences, are helpful and friendly. If you havent stopped by - what are you waiting for?? Seriously? Enjoy a slice of KC that improves your cultural sensibilities AND is enjoyable!

Work brought me back to the midwest. I usually visit the Nelson in Kansas City but took a detour to the Kemper which is dedicated to contemporary art. All in all nice visit and the cafe was surprisingly bustling and good. Will come back and make it a regular place that I visit.

Nice place but I guess I just dont get the "art." Im apparently not creative enough. There were a couple of amazing pieces but there was also a display that was a table full of crumbled foam packaging. I dont understand. Im glad we found the other art museum down the street.

People who work there very nice and helpful. Clean. From pictures I assumed it was all day adventure. I was wrong. Total time to view everything 30 min, you may add 1,5-2 hours if you read postings. Very small. Try food ! it was best salad I ever had :)

Feels like an independent art gallery. However, its not. It does spotlight artists though, and I have NEVER been let down by the showings. The art work is always complex, and well presented. Always give this place a look, if you are in the mood for art.

I cant believe my family and I wasted time looking at drawings my nine year old could have made. The only interesting art work were the sculptures outside the building. If you want to see real art, go to the Nelson-Atkins Museum across the street!

Exhibitions are nice and majority of the staff is great. However there had been a lot of recent unethical firings of their staff and mishandling of donated funds. Not sure how to feel about supporting such such an organization.

This is a free art museum and I highly recommend going. It is small, so it doesnt take long. When we got there we found out there was a small restaurant there. Wish we hadnt just had lunch because the menu looked good.

I love seeing other views. Art isnt just colors, its feelings and emotions. This museum has different rooms that feel like walking into different realms. Its quiet and relaxing. Thank you for sharing you art with us.

A clean and open environment. Although Kemper is not large, it has great exhibits that are rotated out frequently. I would recommended this Museum to anyone willing to spend quality time observing art.

A free gallery that also serves as an event space. The exhibits are changed frequently enough to keep it interesting. Dont be surprised if you show up and find yourself crashing someone elses party.

The Kemper is a fabulous facility and asset to Kansas City. The art is top-notch, staff are great. Its a great place to host a private party as well. The restaurant, Café Sebastienne, is terrific.

Some nice pieces, but its hard to give a fair review since the main gallery was closed for an exhibition change. Heres an idea: execute exhibit changes during non-business hours.

Love this museum of contemporary art. The size of the museum is perfect too for kids. Holds there attention long enough to get thru and lose focus just in time to finish.

Im not an art person but I really like the pieces that were on display in here. Some required a moment to look at think at before they came to life.

I love the museum and the fact that there isnt a lot of traffic. The art will make you think and the lack of crowds gives you the space to do it.

No entry fee, interesting modern art exhibitions. This place isnt large, but is perfect for popping in on a hot/rainy day to take in some culture.

We took a group of 7 year olds there. The Museum provided a tour guide that did a wonderful job explaining the artwork to our boys. Thank you!

I go to this museum every time the exhibit changes. It is small, so doesnt take more than 30 minutes to explore and it is free.

Well laid out. Can be viewed quickly, but the pieces are quality. I did not eat at the restaurant but it smelled wonderful.
