Sorry to see that this place has lost its mojo from the 70s & 80s. A live music bar? No way! When I was getting my degree @ MSU and when I was a young alum this place got fueled by a great and loud jukebox. The music infused the patrons with copious amounts of energy and led to a wild and crazy atmosphere . This was magnified on post football game Saturdays. We would spend hours in there drinking cheap draft beer by the pitcher, and having more fun than should be allowed. This of course led to several chance encounters with, in my case, the lovely ladies. What more can you ask from a bar?? Sadly I heard they got busted one too many times for serving to minors which caused them to close and re-open as just another bar. No doubt the brief period between 1972 and 1978, when the drinking age was 18 led to the bar relying too heavily on minors for a substantial part of their revenue. Looks like it will never be the same. I only gave it the third star because of its past greatness. RIP The Macs Bar of my youth.

Macs bar is a unique hole in Lansing. It has always been known as a dive with good bands. But lately the music has suffered as a result of several regulars (or maybe theyre employees?) personal lives. Bands have shorter sets, fewer bands book, in fact--the potential is running thin, and right out of Lansing. After the closing of the Temple Club, prospects went up for Macs bar. However, lack of attention to detail and limited musical selections accompanied by usually nice but sometimes terse doormen leave one unfulfilled. On the up side, Macs bar has a reliable stream of PBR and a foxy bartender, I can think of worse ways to spend a Thursday night.

The bands that they get to play here are usually great. The bar on the other hand is overpriced and watered down. A pitcher of beer will cost more than at a bowling ally. A jack and coke will be a splash of jack and a glass of coke. The only reason to even visit this venue is the local talent. A bottle of Bud Light will cost you around 5 bucks. A can of PBR will cost you close to 4. If you visit Macs make sure to complain about the overpriced bar or they will keep this terrible price gouging going. Or better yet ignore the bar and sneak in your own liquor. Very dissatisfied customer.

Wow words cannot describe how awful this place is, the service at the bar is terrible. I got kicked out because i happened to be in the bathroom while some people were trying to get some extra buzz going in the bathroom. I was just going pee???? I cannot describe how unintelligent these bouncers are but wow. Complete ignorant guys to be honest, i wasted my money here for nothing because of the bouncers did not know how to handle this. This place needs to get their stuff together otherwise i see this failing.

Its very dive bar-like. It could be a lot cleaner (dust in the speaker caused a small fire recently). Bathrooms are interesting...Clean, but dim. The drinks are priced well. The stage is small but the sound and lights are good. Its a comfortable local place. It could just use a few updates.

disgusting, bathrooms are a disaster, there is people always pissing around the toilet, every time this place is packed, it smells like a zoo, rude staff as well, its not even worth coming here for the cheap beers. the avenue is even worse, so dont even know whats is better

Its a little rough around the edges, but everyone who lives in Lansing knows whats up. Love the staff, love the location but it could use some TLC. Sucks the bands dont have a real backstage, loading and unloading gear must be a huge pain.

Absolutely love this place! Though not extensive, the drinks available are awesome (I drink dark lagers/porters/ales/etc and good beer is hard to find) and the environment cant be beat... best dive bar Ive been to!!

Most definitely a hole, but a good one. Best place to see good live music around Lansing. The dingy dirty facade at macs adds to the charm, bring a sharpie and leave your mark on the walls of this fun bar.

Little hole in the wall bar that will always be my favorite in Lansing. I grew up going to this bar for all ages shows and didnt stop once I was legal. Always friendly service and great drink options.

This is a dirty dive bar with a stage. Beer is fairly cheap and if you know what youre getting into youll have a great time. Good bands often pass through here.
