Its in Chelsea, so a bit of a drive, but its worth it. Weve seen 4 performances there and each one was outstanding. Its a one set theater with a single stage and seating on three sides. Not a bad seat in the house, but seating is limited. Cant say enough good things about the performances. The actors are all great, many with a lot of experience. Jeff Daniels, the actor, founded the theater, and my hat is off to him for the quality that hes instilled in it. If they sold season tickets, Id buy them for my wife and me in a heartbeat, unfortunately with limited seating, they dont. Not a problem though as we always get good seats in advance online. If you love theater, check it out!

Went to see Jeff Daniels: Onstage & Unplugged 2016 for the theatres benefit and was greatly disappointed. Because I have seen Jeff Daniels perform before (and he was terrific), I knew what a high standard he sets in his performances. Unfortunately, he had a broken arm and didnt cancel the show. He only played the guitar and sang 1 or 2 songs and the majority of the show was a long explanation (while skillfully done with shots from the movie went on way too long) of his injury. I had come to be entertained with his humorous and entertaining singing and was greatly disappointed.

Standing Ovation and Bravos!! Guy Sanville and the 4 talented actors perfected this fascinating World Premiere of Smart Love, created by Brain Letscher. Spend the money, bring a date. This exquisite work transcends entertainment and provides the means for interior reflection, making it great theatre. Mr. Letscher, and company, make it look so easy to playwright. He deserves a following, .. cant wait to see his next opus.

This is a very high quality theater with consistently great actors, wonderful selection of plays, and a very excellent environment. The seating is so close to the stage you can really see the emotions in the actors faces. Our experience last night was top notch! We will return here often and highly recommend The Purple Rose to any theater lover.

Founded by Jeff Daniels, its stood for over 25 years. I was blown away by the professionalism of the logistical crew as well as the trained and very experienced actors and actresses. The stage is surrounded by 3 seating areas and its very intimate being very close to the crowd, I prefer it! I fell in love with this place.

Intimate (around 165 seats) theater celebrating Midwest playwrights, actors, directors and crew. Jeff Daniels (film and TV standout) decided to raise his family in Chelsea MI where his dad ran the lumber yard. He started Purple Rose (named after Woody Allens amazing Purple Rose of Cairo in which he appeared) in 1991.

Superb acting and a great way to spend a day in an amazing town. Try professional theatre if you havent in a while. Its better than going to a large auditorium venue like the fox theatre or hill auditorium because of the "u" shape. Every seat in the house is a good seat. A "Pure Michigan" experience all year long.
