What a great hike! Would consider this a level medium-advantage hike. Came across different hikers (from all age group) with their backpacks, some preparing for the White Mountains, NH! Went on a light shower afternoon and followed the blue mark trail path (moderate level). Went up all the way the top where there was a tower, so cool. I also noticed a lot of hikers with their dogs. I thought that this place was cool because right below, across the parking area there was a state troopers building, so I felt somewhat safe. They got a restroom that was available by the main building before going up for the hike! Very convenient~ Overall me and my husband loved the hike and plan to come again! Would recommend to friends and family. Oh and this hike definitely works your legs muscles~ youll be feeling the soreness the night after the hike lol

We (my husband, son and I) hiked 4 miles of the trail on June 26, 2015. It was a scenic and beautiful hike with multiple surprise wildlife sightings. We spotted a full grown white-tailed deer within minutes of of the trailhead and soon found a large American bullfrog sunbathing near water. Later we encountered a 5 foot Black Rat Snake, who stayed around long enough for multiple photos of his head and body before moving on through the leaves. Finally we had a very large wild turkey cross the path directly in front of us and then disappear into the woods. We were impressed by how clear and well-marked the trail was and how great the views of the Boston skyline were.

I have been hiking in the blue hills since I was a child so at least 45 years.I hike every day but unfortunetly the DCR needs to learn to manage the reservation not just randomly cut down trees and leave the wreckage behind and thay need to educate them selves and the public on how fragile this envionment is.Rite now thay are doing more harm than good.Consider the living forest and everything in it .We get to go home after a hike the creatures there have to live with the damage we leave in our wake. Please dont litter and if you see litter pic it up we all can do that its easy. enviormental Mike.Thank you

I live near by and jog on down the easy trails, other days I go hiking on the harder trails. The skyline trail is my favorite to hike. The skyline trail is not too challenging, but I found myself using my hands to climb a few times (I am 6 2"), so its no walk in the park either. There is an app that you can download that literally shows your position on the trails, so if your worried you will get lost, download it. Main trails have markers on trees and rocks so it makes it easy to figure out where you are going. Exquisitely beautiful, highly recommend it!

One of the best hiking areas within driving distance from Boston. Nice trails, well maintained and marked. The area itself is hilly and wooded, but there are some good views from the higher hills. In the summer the picnic areas get very crowded, but everything is quiet and more pristine as soon as one gets about 1/2 mile on the hiking trails. Trails range from easy to moderate. Some ascends/descends might be more strenuous, but they are fairly short. Overall, a good place to spend a day in the nature.

I knew this barn owner for a long time and she is a kind woman. This barn is very rundown and un safe for horses. This wasnt intentional cruelty at all. These horses will be saved. The MSPCA has had the owner surrender her horses. And Christine H (D.S.), you had no control over dylan. You did not pencil anything down. Peace, Love, Pancakes <3

At the DCR headquarters, near the State Police barracks on Hillside St., you can buy an excellent map for $3. The maps are in a box outside. You put the $3 in a slot. The map shows the whole Blue Hills reservation. Each intersection of trails has a number mounted on a tree, and that number is shown on the map. You cannot get lost for long. The map is also for sale in the Mass. Audubon store on Route 138 near the ski slope.

Great park with many trails in the South Shore, just north of South Shore Plaza. The Skyline Trail is popular, and of moderate difficulty level, offering nice vistas as you get atop the 4 hills it passes by. There is convenient parking on the eastern edge near the ice skating rink. Be mindful to follow the painted marks on the trees to keep on the right trail, especially in winter. Make sure to carry a trail map with you!

I couldve easily have spent 3 hours here - and I nearly did when I wanted to see more of the landscape. Easily said, this is a beautiful expanse of land with a bountiful forest with marked paths. The reservation is laughingly close to the city and merits more than a single visit. There are different paths for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels and different landing points to get a varied perspective of the entire area.

The Blue Hills are a wonderful place to get away from the hubbub of the city and do some hiking. There are also some amazing Mountain Biking trails. Every trail is well marked and maintained. You can really select your level of difficulty. The longest stretch the I have done is a 6 mile loop. In the Winter there is even a little skiing, both downhill and cross country. Great place and worth a visit.

Blue Hills park is a great collection of trails. Some of the trails are short, and well maintained lasting only about 15-20 minutes round trip. Other trails are more primitive and can take several hours to walk. This is a great place to take the dogs. Just be careful with everyones footing on some of the rockier parts - we have had incidents in the past!

Its ok. Finding used condoms where you park up at the top of the mountain is nasty. Doesnt seem like they clean it up much or take good care of the place. Trails are pretty cool expect for all the trash along them. It would be a beautiful place if people were not such scumbags and actually cared about the place.

Love this place! From the native blueberries in August to the awesome skyline trail, I love this place. If youre anything like me, download the map to your phone BEFORE you go. The map makes the trails easy to navigate and there are also numbered markers at many of the intersections of different trails.
