Its a small museum (about 40 ft by 20 ft, maybe), but they squeeze a lot into it. When we first walked in I wasnt expecting much, because it was so small and the biggest things in there are some old firetrucks and yes: things advanced from horses to motor vehicles, we all get it. But if you ask for one of the people running it to give you a tour and/or read all of the signs, theres a Lot to learn from their displays. I didnt know fire fighting grenades existed, or the origin of why hydrants are called "plugs". Some of the stories about some of the different ways fire was fought, from prior to 1792 to the present and various problems with the older systems were really cool to learn about. Definitely go if you have time on a Saturday (which is the only day theyre open, at least according to the current website).

super interesting, unique, special, only in Boston ! All the gentlemen in red shirts are volunteers who keep the museum, all are very helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to talk to you and answer all your questions about the history of Boston Fire Department, fire history, and the antique fire equipment in the museum as well as all the new fire trucks in use today. They are also patient with the many ill behaved children who have not been taught manners by their parents.

Didnt even know that this existed! Went for a childs birthday party ( they rent out the upstairs ). Really cool historical pieces! Worth a check if you are walking through the area!

Its free to explore. There are nice volunteers on hand who enjoy explaining the exhibits. There was even a pumper built by Paul Revere!

A small museum but the volunteer firemen are the friendliest, well informed men. A real pleasure to talk to
