Im from out of town, but spent a weekend in Boston with my friends. I had the misfortune of walking through the back of this park (behind the gardens) around midnight on a saturday night in the summer. While I did not see anything crazy first hand, it was obvious to me that this was the place that gay guys go to meet up with other gay guys. It was very uncomfortable. In short... if youre gay, this may be the place for you. If youre not, I would stay on the lit path by the street after dark. Seriously.

This garden is really charming, divided up into small, individually owned plots from back in the victory garden days, when families were given small plots to farm to help the war efforts. Each garden has a unique vibe, some like small japanese zen gardens, others with tiny doors leading into enchanted rose gardens, and still others filled with straightforward lines of vegetables or flowers set around a few chairs for lazing in the sun. Theres some muggy water nearby that can be pretty to walk around too.

For many, the most beautiful part of the Back Bay Fens is floral aroma of the Kelleher Rose Garden...ME TOO! For those who care, very rose bush and trellis features a plaque, stating the name and personality of that particular flower. TIP: Go to their annual "Rose Garden Party," next Summer, to see the roses in full bloom...and the most haute hats in Boston. I, Lynn Julian, was "Honorable Mention" Hat Contest Winner wearing my own creation, made from a Schiaparelli hat base.

Stay away from here on friday and saturday - some wierd stuff goes on here at night. its a gay cruising spot, with plenty of in the dark anonymous blowies, and one time we witnessed someone in a chair sitting motionless surrounded by a circle of candles. avoid this place at all costs.

Public soccer/football/baseball field with nice running track around it, and nearby basketball courts. Pick up games and leagues are aplenty. The nearby park is spaced out with nice walking space. Lots of geese hanging out and a nice ww2 memorial. At night can sometimes get sketchy.

Beautiful Public Park surrounded by pre war buildings. Host gardens that are maintained by private citizens that are little oasis in the city. There are some natural reeds that play host to drug users and homeless, so beware.

Wonderful place during the day. Go see the pond from any beautiful view. Enjoy the beautifully up kept garden and friendly animals. Go see the WWII Memorial. Also a great place to smooooke.

Great for walks. There is a rose garden, lake, and many community gardens. Many geese, rabbits, and birds.
