I love gospel music, and my husband and I were excited about going to this. What a disappointment. House of Blues gospel brunch is a total ripoff!! The show is supposed to be 90 minutes but you spend about half of that time standing in line to get food and get seated. The made-to-order omelettes are good but the buffet lines are so long that you can forget about standing in more than one line or going back for seconds. The show we saw was basically 3 acts. The first was "Joe Cool," an old guy in a wheelchair who later gets up and walks. How hokey is THAT??? Hes not a very good singer either. The second act was the “Zion Harmonizers” quartet, who remind me of the 4 Tops or Temptations. They had good voices and sang religious-themed songs but this was NOT what Id call gospel. The third act was a female "reverend" with an excellent voice. But again, not really gospel. She led us in a "finale" where we all joined in a New Orleans "second line" to exit the theater. Hello? Second line is a tradition in brass band parades NOT gospel!! This was just a way to get us out of there quickly, before our 90 minutes were even up! The poster at the HOB box office has a photo of a gospel choir. Do not be fooled. There is no choir. The audience is a bunch of white tourists who have to be repeatedly exhorted to clap and applaud. Mostly because the show is so uninspiring, not because the tourists are poor sports. Take your $45 to any local church instead. You will probably hear much better music and you can praise the Lord without someone telling you when to do it. This is the first time I have EVER felt like asking for my money back after a show.

The HOB is one of New Orleans premier food and music venues. That is not to say that it is free from issues, but it can be a great place to see a show or get a meal. The detail that went into building this club was amazing. the walls are covered in folk art. The ceiling in the restaurant with sculptures of blues legends is one of the coolest views in the city. The concert venue is large and covers two floors. The best spot to watch a show is the VIP area, but this comes at a premium cost (if you can even get in). Cocktail waitresses roam the crowd and there are usually plenty of bartenders, but this place can get packed. Expect the club to be at capacity (1000) during large shows and that makes movement difficult. In fact, I would rather not see a band I am really into here if the crowd will be near capacity. I dont get to come here as often as I would like, but I will always love the House of Blues.

I went for a show, the ticket person at the box office was on the phone helping a customer so I politely waited for him to help me or at least get the attention of someone who could. After a 15 minwait I was finally helped. I came a half hour early so I decided to wait in the restaurant as suggested by the staff 10 min till the show I saw a line forming outside and was informed by a waitress that the line wasnt inside but outside. Hummm ok.... honest mistake. Apon entering I realized that they had in fact over booked. Not by just a lil but alot. I was told by the staff that seats were first come first serve. If you know how many seats you have per show and all seating is taken, why on earth would you sell me a ticket. BECAUSE YOU DONT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS YOU JUST WANNA GET PAID. please dont waste your money. Not worth it

WTF! Kicked out of a concert for smoking weed. Weed smokers BEWARE! What kind of venue allows reggae groups to perform then kicks out patrons for smoking a little grass!? The security guards are on HIGH ALERT for these law breakers to make themselves known with a little herbal smoke smell dankn the place up and trying to fully enjoy the live music experience. Its pathetic. It wasnt like this a few years ago:( im not sure what changed (management, owner, etc...), but HOB sucks now. I would like to get the word out to all the reggae groups that perform in New Orleans that there are several other fantastic venues that permit such devious behavior. PLEASE play at a venue where i can smoke a doobie while enjoying yalls performance. Also, the price for tickets has gone waaaaay up! The service fee is outrageous! F HOB!

Dont let the bad service and mediocre food dissuade you from buying tickets for the Gospel Brunch. The entertainment is worth the price of the ticket. For the most part the food was adequate, however the omelet station got rave reviews from our group. (We were celebrating a birthday with a group of friends.) We were on the second level and the place to put our plates was not a table, but more of a wide ledge. The servers almost never came by and we had to bus our own plates in order to make room for another plate. Even that would have been okay, except we had to hunt down someone to give our plates to. Very poorly managed. As I said in the first sentence - dont expect much from the food and service, but by all means go for the show. You wont be disappointed.

The only good thing I can say is the cornbread is tasty. The service is atrocious & when we tried to get the waitress to come take our order she argued with us. Service is slow & petulant. The ribs are horrible, unless you like gnawing on bones, then they might be just what you are looking for. Sides were bad too. & they still charged us for our drinks & the cornbread even though we had such a bad experience, so I dont at all feel bad about sharing the bad review. Avoid this place like the plague. Actually the plague might be more enjoyable. And I think they poisoned me because my stomach is upset after hardly eating any of their food. GROSS - STAY AWAY FROM THE HoB!

VERY POOR!! We were visiting New Orleans last week and bought 2 tickets to a show at 10pm that night after eating at the restaurant that afternoon (which was just average). Well when we got there at 10pm for the show all the doors were locked and it looked abandoned. There was no sign as to why or what was going on. The phone number to the house of blues has been busy since that night (a week ago). How unprofessional of a company to not notify ticket buyers of a cancellation, and just lock their doors. Lots of people were showing up mad. As of today we have yet to get a response back from the company via email either. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!

Drinks are good, and Im sure other menu items are good and worth the cost ... was really looking forward to the lobster Mac and cheese, said to be one of the best and most popular dishes on their menu according to their website and other recommendations ... totally disappointed :-( It was really bland and I really wasnt interested in finishing it ... definitely not worth the $21 price tag that came with it :-( the lobster Mac and Cheese I had out of a food stand outside the Marriott was AMAZING, and prepared by their chef at the 555 Restaurant ... wish I had gone back there ... stay with what you know, right?
