Was in Jackson on business trip this June. I was kind of shocked and saddened to see how both run down but progressing the states capitol city looked. My hotel, King Edward, was newly renovated but nestled into a run down area. Being in downtown Jackson shocked me to feel It looked like a zombie attack wiped out the town and state capitol and now the city is rebuilding..early stages. The city is beautiful with so much potential. The Underground 119 was the highlight of my trip and the memory I look back on and smile when I think of Jackson, MS. I loved the band and the music so much I danced with anyone and everyone I could dance with that night, including the line cook. I met the wife of a member of the band (Paperclip Scientists) and danced the night away. How cool is it, months later, to get an email from a band members wife you randomly met while on a business trip saying hi and offering a free download of their new album? So awesome! Honestly,coming from Baltimore. crime is no stranger and being constantly bombarded by shady characters is somewhat frequent and usually harmless. I guess what I am saying is, seeing the surroundings, well aware and assessed risk before deciding I wanted to walk back to hotel after show, I felt walking from the club to my hotel was not risky as I saw not one person out, had my phone, the walk was short, etc. Perhaps annoyed to be seen as in the wrong and naive, risking my life, simply because I decided to walk back in zombie city, it was cute how the staff of Underground 119, leaving for night, saw me walking and was concerned for my safety A block on my journey, an employee from Underground 119 saw me walking and approached me. He would not accept me saying I was fine and okay to walk alone. Hopefully my lack of trusting his kindness and the got your plates, emailed to my fiance in case I go missing was not insulting or stops him from being kind to the next patron. You never know but thankfully he was a sweet gentleman simply looking out for my safety. Thanks kind soul! My experience at Underground 119 was awesome. Thanks a million! My happy Jackson, MS memory!

Tonight was my first experience at this cool, trendy place. Unfortunately, we had to leave before the band started, in order to make it to a concert at the Coliseum. First of all, any establishment that has a seating area with comfy couches has already stolen my heart. There is plenty of bar seating to suit your preference be it bar stool, couches, or high bar top tables. We split a bottle of chardonnay, and ordered appetizers. There were 3 of us. First we had the bacon pimento cheese spread. Wow. I have no idea how the bacon stayed so crunchy, but I have to say, hands down, this was the best pimento cheese I ever tasted. It was served with pita points, which may or may not have been homemade. We also had the savory beignets. How fortunate for us, that tonight, they were filled with crawfish and jalapeno jack cheese. There was nothing low fat about these beignets, but if youre going to splurge, you might as well splurge on something worthwhile. Lastly, we ordered the ceviche, which is always a brave menu item to offer, much less order. The ceviche at 119 Underground, may possibly be my favorite of all time, and I live in Florida, close to the ocean. Perhaps the sake helps balance the acidity, because according to my palette, it was perfect. Even though Im only in town a few more days, Ive already made plans to return, have dinner, and listen to some blues. This has to be, at this time, one of the coolest spots in Jackson.

Visited Underground 119 on a Saturday for dinner at about 7 pm. No waiting, plenty of empty tables. Food was among the best Ive had in ages: appetizers: hummus with pita chips and deep fried portabella mushroom slices: A-double-plus! Main course was excellent blackened catfish and the best turnip greens Ive ever had period. Dessert was pecan pie a la mode - very good, no complaints, just nothing memorable. Drinks were fine. Price for 5 was just over $200. Lots of folks came in to hear the band which began to play around 9 pm. Place went from empty to standing room only over about a half hour. Cant comment on the music - not my thing - but obviously a LOT of people were enjoying it. Wait staff was good, not perfect. Atmosphere - meh - its a basement thats decorated like a basement, Go for the food. The chef is a real talent.

This is a cool joint. I am an overly critical blues lover. Howlin Wolf good. BB King overrated. This is a great place to kick back and enjoy a beer. We did not have any food so I cant speak to that but the servers were very attentive. Will definitely come back if another videography gig brings us to Jackson.

Great atmosphere, of the two times I have been, the music was fantastic once and awful the other time. Im sure its good more often than not! I recommend checking their site for what band/genre will be playing on the night you decide to go.

Jerekus Singleton band was there on Saturday Night. I"ve never in my 54 yr life experience a better band. They are the best band in the land. WOW!
