We saw Smokey Robinson Friday, October 3rd. He was fabulous. However, the experience would have been much better if the Genesee did a few things to ensure that everyone could enjoy themselves. They should not allow people to drink inside the theater. Someone knocked over a beer bottle that made noise the entire time it rolled from the back to the front. People were standing in front of the theater and in their seats preventing the people behind them from seeing anything. Ushers should have insisted they stay in their seats. People should not be allowed to take pictures and videos. They were standing everywhere blocking the with phones in hand. Again, they should have been asked to return to their seats. Most importantly, one guy had a shrill whistle which he used to make himself the center of attention all during the first half of Smokeys performance. Many people asked him to stop but he would not. When he wasnt whistling, he was yelling things at Smokey WHILE HE SANG AND TALKED. If he had just done it at the end of the songs, it would have been fine but he interfered with the enjoyment of at least fifteen other patrons near him. The guy was an egocentric jerk with his silly pink hat but, if the Genesee had ushers doing their job, he could have been kept under control. Ushers walked right past him as he yelled and past people standing blocking the view of many. I wont be going back to the Genesee until I hear that they have changed their policy and are working to ensure that everyone enjoys the performances they pay to see.

On November 13, 2015 my sister and I went to see John Prine. We had seen him at this theater in 2007 and had a great time. How times have changed. Beautiful theater, but it was complete chaos. They allow people to drink during the show and it was a constant flow of highly intoxicated people going to and from the bar. Everyone was taking pictures with their cell phones and the man sitting in front of me had no idea how to use his phone, so all I could see of Mr Prines performance was the back of his out of focus cell phone! I wanted to scream, "Just tap the screen already!!! Thats how you get it to focus!" The man to my right couldnt figure out how to turn his flash off, so I had to listen to him have a conversation about that with his wife. People kept talking, singing along and shouting during the entire concert. John Prines struggling voice was no match for this audience. My sister was a few rows in front of me and she was battling her own batch of highly intoxicated patrons that kept waving their arms in front of her face. One expects this at a Milwaukee Summerfest concert, but not at such a beautiful theater. I will never go back and I will certainly warn others. What a shame. It was once a fabulous theater.

There is a great variety of performances at this small theater. All the seats are good seats, but yes, some are better than others. I would avoid the last 4 seats from the wall on the orchestra level. The theater has valet parking for $15, but you can park for free at the meters after 5PM. So far Ive been able to find meter parking either across the street or a couple blocks away for every show Ive gone to. I would recommend China Star across from McDonalds if you want good, quick, and cheap Chinese food. The place is not a place to take a date, but the food is good.

Small, intimate, gorgeous, perfect accoustics. Whole family has seen many kinds of shows over the years. Never a bad experience. I love having drinks at our seats, I dont feel that we must wait in a line just to chug it down. Riff Raff occurs in all nationalities, but weve only experienced refined fun people here. Hateful, ignorance is an embarrassment, not a review, and needs to be removed. You could choose any show at random and thoroughly enjoy it because they seem to be very particular about who shares their stage.

This theater was recently restored in the early 2000s and its become such a wonderful restoration to the entire town. Its placed in a wonderful part of Waukegan, right next to the lake and an accessible beach. The art wauk occurs every month nearby and the best store in the entire town (known by all locals, not just me), called Horsefeathers, is right next door.

The Genesee Theatre is beautiful and clean, and the sound in the theatre is wonderful. Although that was in no small part to the talent of the Waukegan Symphony and the rockers they performed with. It is a very enjoyable venue and I will go there again.

Gorgeous theater, great choice of talent. Even the valet parking works good when you get out. Gotta work on the sound system though. We saw the "So Happy Together" Tour there and it sounded like I was playing my old 45s.

Very nice theater. Reasonable pricing. I only wish the area had more things to offer. Its so close to the lake, it would be nice to have more little shops, nicer restaurants, things like that.

Its a very nice theatre. We went for a Peppa pig event and it was very fun. The personnel was very helpful. It has pictures of its history displayed inside the theatre which was pretty cool.

Great theatre! Seats 2400, reagle yet casual, depending on the artist. Hosts and box office are great, bartender service is exceptional and the elevator makes it easy to get around.

GREAT place to see a concert. I cant imagine there is a bad seat in the house. I would say to get there early before your show so youre not competing for street parking.

My friend and I saw Gabriel Iglesias in March and Craig Ferguson in May. We had good seats and had great times. Hopefully one day Jeff Dunham will do a show here.

We have attended 4 performances at the Theatre. It is now our favorite venue. It is gorgeous, staff friendly, Valet parking works beautifully. Highly recommend!
