Getting to the place was not as easy as we had hoped; for some reason the address is not posted accurately online and the GPS took us there in a roundabout manner. We enjoyed walking to the top of a hill there and then coming down :-) There are a lot of ducks there and consequently a lot of excrement which has not been cleaned up in awhile. Some of the places are hard to find via the map, and some of the places require you to walk on crushed graveled roads next to the road that vehicles are driving on which did not seem safe. The Egret trail was nice to walk, however it was hard to find (it leads down from the family campground site) and was murky / muddy when we went (in November). This place may be different / better in summer though.

Great for biking, fishing, picnicking. Gravel trails are well maintained with just enough up and down to make it interesting bike ride - full loop is about 8 miles, but there are plenty of stops along the way and part of the trail is by like, part in the woods. This place is just under an hour from Chicago. There is no entry fee, but the facilities are well maintained. This place is also about 2 miles away from Two Brothers brewery, which is nice place to have a lunch and a pint, after a healthy bike ride :)

Very good game fishing, if you know what you are doing. They also have boat, canoe and kayak rentals. Beautiful place with good running and biking trails. Many nice pavilion areas, and there is overnight camping, too. There is also a big hill good for hiking and sledding/tobogganing in the winter. Gorgeous colors in the fall.

This is my local forest preserve for fishing or an exercise walk. I love going to Blackwell for the spring and fall trout seasons. I also ride my bike from there to other parks. You can also do archery, canoe, toboggan, and picnic there. Blackwell has plenty of parking and a store where you can buy bait and snacks.

We loved this forest preserve. There were nice trails, lakes and beautiful scenery. You can rent kayaks there as well. They have a really nice archery range which was an unexpected surprise. My family had a relaxing and peaceful picnic and its the perfect place to unwind

Great place to camp. Once in you dont even realize you are in the city. In August the lakes were nearly impossible to fish from the shore line because of over growth. They also lock the gates real early so any guests have to get out by 9pm. Great time and much to do.

They have an EXCELLENT archery area here. Free, easy to get to and extremely well maintained with beginner range, range up to 90yds, and one with targets set back into the woods. The whole area is beautiful around several lakes and trails. Well worth the drive!

Oh this is our favorite local getaway. We like to show this off to it guests! Pro tip: this is excellent fit fall colors! We have been to other places such as devils state park and Wisconsin, but this is a superb place to view colors in the neighborhood itself.

Beautiful views. Great for family or just someone trying to go for a stroll. There is a hill to either try and get fit by going up a few times or to reach the top with that special someone and see who can count the most water towers.

Its a large Forest Preserve but because the marsh increases the mosquito population and there isnt much shade, I think it would make better bike riding than hiking. Several informational plaques and scenic points throughout the park.

love the campsites, really cool to take my little ones out camping without going too far from home. As they get older we will be camping farther and farther away from home...LOL. beautiful lake. They have kayak and boat rentals.

There are lots of different things to do here, along with different trails. Its beautiful. Depending on where you want to go, you might have to drive for a little within the park. The map also isnt very clear.

Its a really nice campground. It looks like youre deep in the forest. Plots are all slightly different but mostly a drive space and a large tent area and a picnic table and fire ring. Also electricity.

There is a giant hill here and I tried sprinting up it one time to see what kind of shape I was in and I regretted it so much but it was nice getting to the top even though I almost passed out.
