I have a lot of great memories of coming to this little museum. Its not usually crowded and its a nice quiet place to enjoy the artwork (and get out of the heat in the summer--I am not ashamed to admit Ive done this) Im glad the town was able to work it out with the state to keep it operating. Long live the state museum! Since the state budget crisis, the hours of the museum have changed! Theyre only open 9am-5pm W, Th, Fri, and 12pm-5pm on Sat & Sun. Museum is closed on Mon & Tues. Musem was closed during posted operating hours. We drove one hour to the Illinois State Museum and Gallary only to discover it was locked up during supposed operating hours and there was no one around. Not even the courtesy of a sign or explanation on the website or on the answering machine. Very poor management.

Very nice rotating collection. I enjoyed the toys exhibit. The curator talked with us extensively about the art. Very nice little museum.
