This was my first time to City Winery and I must say I was very disappointed. Let me see....whats wrong with this place? First off, a table that supposedly seats four is about big enough for 2 1/2 people- very cramped! When we came in, the A/C was blowing so hard, it felt like a wind tunnel. The woman sitting across from me literally had her hair blowing from the force of the A/C! And this is in the middle of winter. Finally it was shut off after a number of us complained to the manager. The menu- quite overpriced for what it was. Small plates of fair quality. The mushroom flatbread was quite good, but the chicken was very bland, and the braised rib tips just OK. The wine was OK, nothing special. The beer list was ridiculously pretentious. Im a microbrew guy, and I knew just a few of the beers om their list- and pretty much evrything was an IPA or Wit- very hoppy or very wheaty. No nice medium ales at all. And though I personally would never order it, would it kill them to have something like a Miller Lite on the menu for those who would want it? But the biggest problem with this place is the "concert seating". Not ONE single seat in this place faces the stage! I personally find this incredible. Every table is perpendicular to the stage. I guess you could turn your chair- except that theres no room to do it because its so cramped! Whoever designed this place was clueless! If you want to have a venue that serves food and attempts to be as concert hall, they should set it up like the movie theaters that have food and drink service- a long thin table or counter with seating on one side only, with the seat facing the stage. The sound was fine, but the concert experience was severely lacking. They appear to be trying to be too many things and succeeding at none of them. I actually hope they go out of business, as they are booking a lot of acts, including Greg Brown who I saw tonight, that have booked prior at Old Town School, where its all about the music. And thats what both the performers and the audience deserve- a venue thats there to serve the music first, not a place where the music is ancillary to wine-making and the mediocre overpriced food.

This is a great place that many people do not know exists. They have a wonderful music hall in the back along with a beautiful dinning area in the front. The day I visited, they were having a class on Flamenco Music along with a very talented dancer teaching some patrons some moves. The food did look good but I was more interested in a glass of wine to enjoy with the music and was almost shocked to find how wonderful it was. For a winery in the middle of a Midwestern city, I could not believe how good this red wine was. I love how it was served in a beaker and not a typical craft that you would see at some finer restaurants. Made it feel more unique. City Winery made such a great impression that I signed up for another event later in the month and will most likely be taking my better Half here for a romantic dinner to test out the kitchen. Only reason that I did not give them 5 stars is that I could not take the wine I enjoyed so much home with me. They only keep it on TAP. Such an unfortunate revelation but since the music experience was so good, I know what will be my beverage of choice will be when I come back.

I found this place to be just ok. Mostly due to prices and food. That being said, there are positives and negatives. First, the positives: - Great service, enthusiastic staff - GREAT place to see live music. Maybe the best room in chicago to see jazz. - Great wine! (although stupid expensive) - Really beautiful restaurant. It really is a great space and the construction is fantastic. OK, now the negatives: - Food is not good. Its really just ok and the prices tilt it towards just plain bad to me. - My ONE small glass of wine was 14 dollars. There was nothing to justify that price for a house glass of wine. Not even a large one. - Its way too expensive. The food does not justify prices in any way. Overall, my opinion is to come here if you are going to see music. Otherwise, find a better place for food and wine that either is cheaper, or justifies the prices charged.

Nice Music venue, but not the place for food or good dining experience. Started with house brand Cab & Char to disappointing measures, flat, forced aged and unremarkable. Paired with starters risotto balls and crispy chorizo, that were good, but shrimp slightly salty and risotto needed some. Shared a dinner plate of Fried Monk fish, that was dry and void of flavor. Monk Fish is called poor mans lobster, not a fatty fish, so over cooking is easy, as they did. Service was OK, Waiter had no recommendation, not communicative, never introduce himself, initials LD. Missed side of greek potatoes with dinner, came later cold and undercooked. We had to ask repeatedly to clear our table, and all this was before the performance that was scheduled at 7 pm, but stated @ 8:30pm....... I would return for the music, but will eat before I come.....

Super five stars for which you consume and the atmosphere! It was like as if all of the other pork chops I have ever in my life werent really pork chops , and that here, I was trying it for the first time. It just melted in my mouth. Thats just an idea of what you can expect from the food here. If you have have the opportunity to try the chefs creations, consider part of your life complete! The Three Amigos red blend will blow you away, just like the food, and others in their wine selection. Also, not only is this a heavenly selection for food (the menu changes bi-annually for variety and freshness of whats in season), but this is an entertainment venue as well! Yes, check out their calander for musical acts and enjoy your dining with a live performance (they have some pretty impressive artists that come through here)!

The City Winery Chicago I have to say is one very impressive establishment that knows how to cater its guests and have some pretty epic performances there along with delicious food and booze! My first time here was in the beginning of the year when Ed Kowalcyzk was performing and the view and food was great. You know I even had a very delicious coffee that night since it was a bit chilly outside. I highly recommend you visit this location if you have never been here you will love it. From the outside it doesnt look big but when you go inside you are like wow. I can guarantee it being the Chicagorican Richlatino Fedora Hat wearer that speaks Spanglish not Spanish. Make this one of your stops when you are in town because I will tell you there will be some great things happening when you come here.

Skip Dinner Here I have never written a review on anything but was so disappointed I had to say something. Went for dinner and show and will not go back. I was told the only available reservation was at 6;30 - not the case at 7:15 the dining room was half empty. So now that Im here way too early I can only hope the food /wine will keep me happy until the show - WRONG AGAIN - in our party of 4 all agreed wine was weak and overpriced, and food was equal as bad. Small portions, served cold. My scallops, dinner consisted of 3 scallops, no side dish, etc. I have never had scallops that were so sandy - the worst. The appetizer was cold and small portioned as well. Luckily the show was good - Do your self a favor and eat down the street, anywhere down the street, and then come over for the show
