Being a little pricier than other courses me and my buddy play, we reserve Woodmont as a treat for ourselves every once in a while. The course is usually in fantastic shape and we end up having a great outing. But this weekend, we had a terrible experience. For starters, their online booking system was down nearly all week. We called several times asking the Pro Shop if they could book our times, only to be told that they couldnt, because people WERE booking times and they didnt know what was available or not. We finally were able to get help with this Friday, booked a 10:50 tee time, much later than we typically play, but wed already reserved this Sunday to play, so we were determined to get out there. We make the 1hr drive up to Woodmont and while paying, are notified that well be paired up with another group. Disappointing, yes, but getting paired up can be hit or miss so we choose to be optimistic. We warm up, and head to the tee box. It appears that were being paired with a senior couple, a husband and his wife who are both playing from separate tees (super senior and ladys). Now I should note that by buddy and I shoot in the mid 80s and typically play from the tips at Woodmont. We express this concern to the starter who tells us theyre only playing 9 and that it shouldnt be a problem. He shrugs us off, leaves. We both tee off, then drive to the next set of tees, he drives, then the next set of tees, she drives. And we repeat this slow, cumbersome, and patience-testing round. The couple were very nice, but we were immediately VERY behind by the 3rd hole. My buddy and I were very anxious about getting called out on being slow, but we were playing pretty good so far; nevertheless, we trudged on, watching shot after shot while we waited to continue playing. It was very frustrating as its tough to get into any sort of a rhythm when youre getting to hit so inconsistently. On the 4th hole, the same starter shows up and comes directly to us and tells us that were going to have to speed it up because were falling behind. We explain to him whats happening and he just tells us we need to play quicker, then begins to hover over our group, watching us like a hawk. After a couple holes of this, we begin to get frustrated enough to let it bother our games. But any golfer knows how mental this game is, and it feels like were being punished the course deciding they wanted to pair us with a couple of seniors. Either way, we power through what feels like the longest nine weve ever played. We wish the couple a good rest of the weekend, and zip off to 10. We are greeted by a twosome who are just about to hit their tee shots. They each hit TWO tee shots, then drive off. It takes them 10 minutes to hit their 2nd shots, then another 10 to finish the hole. As were finishing up, the same starter who had been hounding us shows up and starts complaining again. He knows about the slow twosome in front of us, so he decides that hell pair us up with the twosome behind us. WTF. Now Ive never had this happen to me anywhere, where the starter is given so long a leash that hes just driving around messing with pairings and jerking people around. We consider calling the pro shop and even leaving, but at this point, we just want to finish. But after that, we both fell apart, had terrible back nines. The other guys were nice, but one was a club-thrower, and both were playing from shorter tees as well. It was clear that this was the straw that broke the camels back. All in all, the round took around 5.5 hrs. The course was in decent shape, but Ive never had such a terrible outing anywhere in my entire life. That starter was terrible and the trip was wasted due to his lack of tact. Also, a small but important thing, only ONE water bucket on the entire course was filled, just terrible. Ive come to expect these things from muni courses or $30 tee time courses, but never from Woodmont. MAYBE it was just bad luck, but I wish we could get our $60 back. Id be willing to discuss with the Pro Shop, but my advice: stay away folks...

Course was in great shape. Greens have been top dressed recently but that did not effect putting too much. We found ourselves waiting on the group ahead of us on nearly every hole but we still managed to finish in 4:30 so not bad. Cart service was available and often which was great. I will be returning and would recommend trying this course.

Historically one of the prettiest and best tracks around the area. Right now, I wont go back til grass grows. Hitting off hardpan fairways, no grass, wet all around. Save your money and find a good one until they get some fairways and grass.

A great course for the money. (Ive booked it through golfnow for $25 on a Sunday afternoon.) Challenging but no overbearing. Good cart service and the best burger in Atlanta.
