I have been going to Opera since it opened as eleven50 back in 1999. The club was recently renovated in 2007 to bring eleven50 back to its origins as a 1920 Opera theatre. 22 VIP Opera boxes were added to the second level as well as a 3rd level VIP bar with private bathrooms. The lighting and sound systems were enhanced and the dance floor was enlarged signficantly. The clubs main room plays mainstream hip hop and mash-up mixes. There are two additional party areas. The outside "Cabana" area has private cabanas, fountains, and miami style house music under the stars and tall buildings of midtown. During the spring, summer, and fall this makes for a great way to start your night prior to going into the main dance room, or to just spend the evening outside. A newly renovated back room has been significantly enlarged for private parties and DJ events with an amazing sound and light system. No other club in Atlanta can match the decadence and party that Opera has to offer. I have been to many of the major clubs throughout the US in places such as NYC, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angelese, Las Vegas, and others and Opera stands out as one of my favorite places. The venue is great for large groups whether you want to spend the night as a VIP or in the main party areas. Many VIPs have frequented the club include many professional athletes to music celebrities. The club also brings in some of the worlds best DJs on weeknights such as Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk and others. This is the place to spend your weekends in Atlanta! A night not to be missed...

So, having just moved to Atlanta recently my girls and I were looking for a place to go out to one Saturday night; I read the reviews on this site and decided to give Opera a try. Let me tell you what a mistake that was, one that I shall never repeat. I registered my friends and myself on their guest list and went to the club. After standing outside in freezing temperatures for 30 minutes to get in (seriously, I pulled up the weather and its 28 degrees tonight), we made it to the front of the line, only to be told that apparently we were in the wrong guestlist line. It would have been nice if they had labeled the lines or given some sort of instruction, but it doesnt end there. We switched to the other guestlist line and when we made it to the front of that line we were told it was past eleven (it was 11:05) and that the guestlist was closed. I explained that we were in the other guest list line and had to switch and stand in line all over again and that it wouldve been helpful if they had labeled the different lines, but they refused to honor our reservations. The workers were incredibly rude and its funny how many of them can take the time to tell you "no", but couldnt be bothered to tell us in the beginning that there were different lines and which one to stand in. They then demanded $20 cover for me and my friends (all women) at which point I laughed. I mean, really, A) this isnt New York and B) learn how to treat your customers. I for one am not in the habit of rewarding sub-standard service and attitudes with my money. Not now, not ever.

Any club that cant afford decent air conditioning and at least acceptable music should not be seriously considered. Such is the case with Opera. Why you should not go there. 1. Arrogant staff at the door. Those people treat you like cattle. I like that little bold guy that strolls along the line trying to look like he works for Presidents security. He is supposed to be checking dress code I presume but he seems to be a compete failure at this task - I observed a guy wait in line for 40 minutes just to be told at the door that he cant wear tennis shoes. 2. NO AIR CONDITIONING I cant believe that lack of air conditioning is unintentional. My guess is they make it hot so that people would buy more drinks, and that is so disgustingly cheap and low class. 3. Terrible bartenders Mine charged me for 4 extra drinks on my card, and when I caught her with that she tried to give me coupons for extra drinks. After I explained that I do not drink AT ALL and was just paying for my friends drink, she made me wait like half an hour to take those drinks off the bill. Beware 4. Horrible music. Well, if your idea of a good club is an overcrowded, hot, sweaty place with a lot of stupidly drunk people combined with the worst selection of dance music on the planet, you should definitely go there. Somebody should lend those DJs some money to go to a couple of decent clubs in Europe to learn that remixes of RNB IS NOT dance music. At least in my books. 5. Overcrowded. Well, I guess other places are even worse.

First of growing up in south florida and experiencing all the clubs in miami, ft laud and palm beach, this club OPERA is over rated. I will tell you why, their dj booth , vip rooms , dance floor and the decor/laser beam is nothing compare to the high end clubs in South FLA. As to staff, horrible, majority give no respect what so ever, I dont have to spend a dime if I dont get the right service and deal with courtesy bar staff, here, female staff is okay but men, completely jerks, they act like never seen money before. . Finally , as to the crowed, its okay, I have seen people coming in there with their white sneaker, baseball hats, jeans , I shall say no more. Place is completely OVER RATED. However, Drinks are too expensive, you will see not too many people are drinking there , so when you go to the bar , men bar staff will pretty much howl at you . In addition, they get upset if you leave reasonable tip, men bar staff will almost throw your credit card at you , that is very rude and you do not deserve to be treated that way. Men bar staff want you to spoil them by over tipping them, and not to mention, they get drunk, and start to act very rude . I have seen club promoters will hang out side at the end of the night to pick up girls with the comp passes. Their guest list is pretty much an insult , they can refuse right on your face. they will say good bye to you when you depart the club. If he start does t go right , it doesnt make any difference at the end.

Friday was the first time I visited Opera since Ive only been in ATL for a few weeks and heard good things. I was having a great time until a very persistent and rude employee forced me and my friends out of the VIP seating we had been invited to sit in. I was trying to carry several drinks and coats of other friends that had decided to dance, before I could reach for the long island I had purchased five seconds pior to the a#*hole told me to move, the buttface tossed it. Then my great time turned into a bad experience. He could have helped me move all the stuff or offered to get me something else to drink. Unfortunately he thought it was funny and said he tossed it because I didn’t have my name on it, I did not find his comment amusing. He claimed his name was Tony but for some reason I think he was lying. He was short, black guy; with a light complexion, he was wearing a suite, very cocky and rude. I was with a large group and everyone seemed to think his behavior was uncalled for to top it off when I offered to pay for VIP he wanted to charge me twice the amount listed on the website. Then when I agreed he claimed they were all sold. Later after more friends arrived I noticed the space was empty. There were 20 of us in town from DC, NY, HI, and LA all different races and backgrounds but we all agree that the situation could have been handled more professionally. The site would not let me submit my comment, how convenient.
