It was really hard to decide between 2 and 3 stars. My husband, 5 yr old daughter and I only had 1 afternoon to visit St. Augustine and wanted to do something shed enjoy. It was also 90 degrees and extremely humid so inside activities were encouraged :) The museum itself had some interesting info and exhibits but doesnt warrant a 4 or 5 star review. It is very small but theyve done a lot within the space they have. My 5 yr old enjoyed looking for the treasure map clues but thats the only thing she was interested in. My husband and I had to keep reminding her we were trying to look at and read things along the way. Capt. Mayhem wasnt there when we visited which Im sure adds much more to the experience and Im guessing thats where the 4+ star ratings come from. Had we known he wasnt there we probably wouldve looked at somewhere else to visit. Id call ahead to see if hes going to be there. We visited on Talk Like a Pirate Day so I thought they might have something special going on but they didnt. We ended up spending more time in the gift shop than then in the exhibits. Overall I enjoyed it but wish Capt. Mayhem wouldve been there, then it mightve been worth the $14 per adult we paid to get in.

I really liked the museum. They have a lot of interesting stuff to look at if youre interested in the history of piracy. We did the treasure hunt that they offered - which was super fun, but almost too distracting. You pretty much look for hidden clues to where you can open something and look at cool stuff. Visitors who dont do the treasure hunt would probably never see those additional items. However, because we looked for the clues everywhere, we were less inclined to actually walk through the museum and read everything. So just be aware of that. :) (Im sure the treasure hunt is meant more for kids, and theyll love it!!). They also offer a few interactive things like firing a canon. Im giving 4 stars because I was a bit disappointed by the gift shop. I thought that at a pirate museum you should be able to acquire cool stuff that might look somewhat "authentic". E.g. fabric maps, leather accessories, etc. But they pretty much only offer plastic-y things that look too fake for me to even want to get any of it as souvenir. So dont go there if you look for a little costume or so (besides hats - they had two kinds of cool authentic looking hats.)

WOW! St Augustine is my favorite spot in Florida, and this may be the best museum in St Augustine. The collection is one-of-a-kind, displayed creatively for adults and children with many interactive features. It also does some nice local tie-ins with Florida and St Augustine history. Some of the many items on display: Thomas Tews sword, pistol, and treasure chest. One of only two Jolly Roger flags. Treasure galore. Ships logs. Movie props (including Jack Sparrows sword). The list goes on and on. The museum is very reasonably priced, too. According to staff members, they will periodically rotate their exhibits. I look forward to making this a regular stop every time Im in town.

I came here with guarded optimism. I read a lot of reviews that said it was great, but for some reason I had doubts. But they were quickly squashed soon after entering. This place is awesome. Very interactive and informative. I grew up here and never knew a lot of the things that they reveal in the exhibits. They even have a Jolly Rodger (pirate flag) from one of Blackbeards ships! They also have real gold treasure as well. Its really cool and adds a lot to the history of the area. I cant recommend this place enough. Its air conditioned too, so a great relief on a summer day of hitting other attractions.

EDUTAINMENT at its best! FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES........ A phenomenal interactive educational and entertainment experience with REAL pirate and treasure artifacts never seen by the public before. I know because I have visited dozens of so called " Pirate" and "Treasure"exhibits around the world. Pat Croce the former owner of the Philadelphia 76ers has truly out done himself. Realistic world class treatment of an exciting topic. Well worth twice the price....... Plan on spending some time there ...I personally guarantee your enjoyment I cant wait to bring my grandkids!! Wow! What a great addition to to think about this as I am not a big pirate person...I was so wrong. Fantastic place! So interactive and so interesting. Between finding the skull and cross bones and opening the drawers that revealed more information, firing the canon, the stories, the Pirate talk in the restrooms, the artifacts. All of it, is amazing. I wish I had more time and cant wait to go back. This is a wonderful place for children and adults. I look forward to taking any family and friends that visit to the Museum and am considering getting an Annual pass! Must see for St. Augustine!

Highly recommended! Me and my friends (30s) spent a wonderful afternoon in the pirate museum. First, we did not know if we want to enter. 12$ seemed a bit much in regard how small the museum looked from outside. But we were finally 3h inside, searching for the different treasuries (make sure you get a treasury map in the shop), took amaying pictures and read scary romantic pirat stories. The museum is fund for everyone of every age. Kids are the same fascinated as adults if they fire the canons or try to tie a sailor knot.

I was a little hesitant initially, it looked like a tourist trap, yet I decided to give it a try (children begged to go in). I was wrong, we took the guided tour, and ended up having a great experience. The tour guide/pirate was very good at providing historical account of pirates and their mission during the colonization of north America. He was very knowledgeable, was good natured with the children, and really explained the myths and innacuraies we have of pirate life, history. Great experience for the whole family.

We really enjoyed our experience at the Pirate Museum. I love to read the plaques and really look at all the information and artifacts. It becomes hard with kids to do that at some museums. This museum was geared towards kids, with things for them to do, and my wife and I could read and look at the pirate artifacts. This museum really had something for everyone! Loved the interactive displays and firing the cannons! If you are in St. Augustine, you must stop by for a fun afternoon at the pirate museum.

Well produced museum with a ton of info on pirates. Lots of relics and artifacts to check out, as well as activities for kids. Looks small from the outside, but it worth the price tag for an hour or so of interesting material. Everything from how pirates came about, to how they survived, to their perception in media years later. Youll come out with a new fond disdain for pirates, as youll learn how brutal they actually were and how they are romanticized in the media. Very cool.

I thought this was going to be a kids attraction but was extremely pleased to see that it not only seemed to be kid friendly but also very informative and entertaining. Theres more historic information about pirates than anyone could ever want to know about. We took a good 90 minutes and could have spent another hour looking at everything. Great place. If youre looking for a place to entertain a preschooler (Kia C), go somewhere else like Chucky Cheese or McDonalds play park.
