A fascinating look in the life of the Father of modern Florida. The house itself is a work of art, let alone the millions of dollars of (actual) art contained with the walls. Thats not even mentioning the technological advances Flagler chose to install within the house (central heating, electricity, telephones in most rooms, and sophisticated call system for summoning assistance). The house is truly a wonder in and of itself. The tour was fantastic. We chose to download the iPhone app beforehand. The app walked us through every room in the house providing supplemental content in specific areas. The museum also provides phone-like devices which will provide the same audio, if you choose not to download the app. Just when you think the tour is over, youre presented the opportunity to tour Rail Car #91 - Flaglers custom, private rail car. The same one he rode on the first train to Key West in 1912. Overall, I cant say enough good things about the tour, go for the brilliant look at Florida History. If that doesnt interest you, go for a brilliant tour of a beautiful home. If that doesnt interest you, go for beautiful views of Lake Worth and West Palm Beach. Its well worth your time.

A wonderful discovery !! Have visited twice in the past 4 months, once with a group of friends and the 2nd time with my husband (who is a huge Henry Flagler fan). We took curated tours both times & I suggest that people sign up for them as its much more lively & personal than wandering around with earphones & a recording. The mansion (aka the "cottage"), which Flagler only lived in for about a month or two each year, is filled with incredible architectural workmanship, antiques, paintings & luxurious details. Another suggestion: eat lunch at the restaurant which is in a separate building behind the gift shop (definitely worth a visit, too, as its filled with interesting items, big and small, for all ages). Its a bit pricey but youll feel like you were transported back to the early 20th century; service is attentive & the presentation is formal. Flaglers private railroad car, Number 91, is across the echoing space from the restaurant & you can walk through it & amaze yourself seeing how one of THE wealthiest men in America traveled. Go go go !!!

My favorite museum in Palm Beach County. Whitehall is a beautiful mansion, and his railroad car is pretty cool too. I went here for my 40th birthday, and enjoyed "high tea" in the cafe. My favorite rooms are the library and the formal dining room with that amazing hand carved fire place. This place is filled with lots of cool artifacts, paintings, and sculptures. Theres also a nice gift shop too. Ive visited here several times, and I always find something new each time I visit. I still havent seen any ghosts, but Im always looking! I believe the cafe is open during a certain season of the year. If you get the chance, dont miss out on experiencing high tea with all the tasty treats that come with it. You can also purchase the tea blend in the gift shop. I highly recommend it! Enjoy.

Easily one of the best museums I have toured. Audio tour gives a lot interesting historical insight into not only the history of Whitehall, but of live in the gilded age in general. Anyone who enjoys history will absolutely love this place, as almost each room has its own audio bit. The place itself is astounding, showcasing the amazing architectural style of the era. You can also briefly tour Henry Flaglers personal rail car, and there is a gift shop with plenty of things to purchase including books that go even further into the history of the era. Perhaps the best part is that you can tour the second floor, where a lot of historical sites restrict access to the first floor. This is a must-stop place for anyone in the area.

This museum was built as the private home of Henry Flagler as a gift for his third wife and was intended from the start to someday be a museum. Built in the gilded age, this home compares to the Vanderbilts Biltmore Home in Asheville, albeit on a much smaller scale. You can go room to room and get a sense not only of how the Flaglers lives but of notions and customs of the day. When we visited, there was an art exhibit on the second floor -- this one devoted to harem culture in turn-of-the-century middle east, a subject of some of the artwork in Flaglers collection. I think admission was $18. There is no food but a nice gift shop. A worthwhile activity leading to a greater sense of the history of our area.

I havent been to Whitehall in almost 20 years. I am 30 now and I can remember wondering how they used to live back then without air conditioning. NO MORE! My wife and I went this past weekend and discovered that about 18 years ago they refitted the mansion with A/C and its now a very comfortable tour. From the busts of Roman emperors, to the ornate ballroom, what an awesome couple of hours. The courtyard is awesome with its carefully engineered drain system to collect rainwater, the clock in the Grand Hall that won the gold medal at the Paris worlds fair in 1900. So much history! You could stay there for a year and still not absorb everything!

The museum was beautiful inside and out. It took us about an hour to get through with the self guiding tour. Well worth the money spent to get in. The only complaint I had was about the security guard who was extremely unpleasant and is the reason why I would not give this place 5 stars. He followed my sisters and I around and stared us up and down several times making the experience slightly uncomfortable. In addition he was extremely rude to my family while we walked through the self guided tour, telling us to hurry along. Everything else was amazing though. I would recommend visiting.

Beautifully restored mansion. Tours are led by knowledgeable docents, or you can take a free recorded tour at your own pace. Reasonably priced. Lots of information is provided. Lovely setting, and guests can wander around the grounds. Nice gift shop. There is a small restaurant/tea shop, but we got there after it closed. A great way to spend an afternoon!

My husband and I toured the museum on a whim during a vacation recently, and it was probably my favorite excursion we took during our week. The tour size and guide were perfect. Very enjoyable and worth the money! Would go back again with friends / family. Strolling along the water afterward is a nice treat.
